If I could have given this place less than one star I would have. I arrived around 5:30 PM on a Wednesday evening I knew that they closed at 7, however I asked them if they had time to do a full set of pink and white and a pedicure. At the time they had two customers in the pedicure chairs, there were two employees present, they stated it would not be a problem. I repeatedly asked them, to ensure this would not be an issue. They started the pedicure first. I needed tips placed on my big toes because I had an in-grown toe-nail on one that left them asymmetrical. I told them I wanted French. I wanted a general simple French pedicure, no frills, no massage, no soak, no lotion, nothing to make it last longer, just paint the toes, move on to the hands. I had some stubble on my legs from having not recently shaved and they talked back and forth to one another and made jokes about this, you could tell about this simply because of their body language. Then the lady, who was not working on me, asked if the skin on my legs was sensitive, if that was why I didn't want anything on them or had nothing don't to them. read more

What an awful experience... the nail tech was rude and when I asked him to please buzz off my cuticles he replied "they not my cuticles, they yours".. don't really know what that's supposed to mean but instead of doing what I asked he got rude and my nails turned out horrendous. He didn't even bother to clean under my nails.. I got a basic gel fill and on the board it says they start at $25, I don't know how my service cost me $38. Went in today to have a fill done. Hong (like Hong Kong lol) took great care of me. He took is time to fix my nails that another salon did and didn't do a very good job. He was very nice and made sure I was happy with his work!! I will definitely be back to see him! read more

I'm fine giving it one star only because they were quick to give me my money back out of fear of creating a scene and the man that did my nails was absolutely pleasant. My nails looked wretched. I had to get them reshaped and repainted at a different salon. I was so upset. If you are unable to do something then just say it! All I wanted was a rounded shape. They were uneven and glued on slanted. Awful. Do not recommend. read more

My first experience was with an older woman with short hair and glasses. She was very pushy and persistent in the services she wanted me to get. She ended up passing me over to another tech. I'm so glad she did because now that is the only person I will go to: Henry. He does a wonderful job. My normal go too spot for nails is in Waldorf but I had a little free time after a Dr. apt. and wanted to get a quick pedicure. Found this place on yelp with a decent rate for my area so we popped in and asked for 2 pedicures I was told they would be with us in a "minute". They sat us in the pedicure chairs filled with warm water (which were not plastic lined so I'm not sure if they had been sanitized or not) and we waited, and waited, and waited...after 30 minutes we finally got up and left. They tried to stop us on the way out saying they would be with us in "just one more minute" I let her know we'd already wasted 30 minutes sitting in what by this time was freezing cold water and had to go. We headed over to Hollywood Nails where we got in immediately. I don't mind a wait especially since we were walk ins but 30 minutes is ridiculous. We won't be returning. read more

I took my daughter here for prom nails and a gel fill for me. I asked the cost...they said $90. After snide looks between each other and constant chatter between the employees I got more and more uncomfortable. My nails looked horrible...I always get black on my nails and he kept insisting I should get white I agreed. My fault on the color. I hated it. I go to pay and it was $150....long way from $90. Modern nails has been my go to Nail place for years! Employees are always willing to do whatever you want them to do and they are all around great people! You can get anything from a gel manicure and dip powder nails to waxing and tanning! The building is very clean and smells really good! Kim, who is the owner, is always aiming for the best of her own work and her employees. Always makes sure everything is perfect! Sometimes wait time is long, but that is because there is high demand, and the employees want to make sure you are pleased with their work. Definitely recommend! read more

This place is absolutely horrible. The young man, who I have had about 3 times, is absolutely terrible. He is rude and very slow. When he messes up, which is often, he tries to make it seem like it is my fault. The ladies in this nail salon are very good, but they are usually busy with other customers. This young man is never busy with other c and now I see why... because nobody wants him. He also made me pay $45 for a fill, which is absolutely ridiculous! I suggest making sure you stay clear of the young man or just find a new nail spot. read more

I was very disappointed with my service( pedicure) today. My operator seemed inexperienced or annoyed. He did a poor job. After polishing my toes, he just walked away. Not returning to remove toe spacers or anything. The other man there did say "Thank you". An older woman entered and she was not greeted at all. I was not looking for "First Lady" treatment but this? Kim has done my nails in this salon several times and I always leave refreshed with beautiful fingers and toes. I love the hot rock add-on to the deluxe pedicure. It's definitely a treat and Kim always makes me feel special. While most of the nail techs are nice at this establishment one is a very rude woman. I had an experience with her in the past where she would not take no for an answer when trying to up sell her services to a "deluxe spa pedicure". I unknowingly agreed to an an up sell when asked if I wanted a certain scrub used on my feet. In the end, I just left her a very small tip for not telling me that I would be charged extra for this scrub. Despite my warning my sister tried to get a pedicure here as well and had a similarly negative experience. A lot of bad faces and negative comments made her uncomfortable throughout her pedicure. read more

No customers, 4 employees. 2 guys lounging on the couches, one woman filling various bottles and one on a lengthy phone call and she's the one I get for a pedi. I've been going to Modern Nails for over a year, and have always had a very pleasant experience with my Pedi's, until last Friday 5/2/2014. As they say, one bad apple CAN spoil the bunch. I got a new "guy" who couldn't speak English and obviously very new to being a nail tech. As he started scrubbing on my big toe, he missed the callus and scrubbed the skin off of my toe. I now have a Band-Aid on a very angry looking toe, that may be headed for an infection. Plus didn't even touch the callus on the bottom of my foot, which after being in shoes and socks for 7 months, needed to be scrubbed, I redid my feet when I got home. I will NEVER go back there again. read more
