My husband was interested in getting solar panels for our home. So after talking to two different companies we went with Modern Mill. After signing the paperwork the real fun began. It took over 5 months for Modern Mill to finally give us an installation appt. When they finally came to install I told them we would have to place the battery and inverters inside the garage, there was nowhere in the house for them. I go inside to take care of my daughter, once I was able to go and check on them they had already placed all equipment and installed. (On a wall my husband wanted to put a door on.) Not only that but they left a hole from the outside to my crawlspace, (that they never plugged up) and with our luck a colony of wasps decide to make a huge hive, over the summer my husband tried many different hacks, sprays and fogs to try and take care of it but it just kept growing. Guess we will have to hire someone to take care of it! Once the panels were installed we come to find out that the panels run on wifi. For us, being in the country - we don't have good wifi. The installation worker told us he would get us a modem so we could hook up the panels to wifi and be able to run the app. We need the app to work because it shows usage, how much the panels are producing, troubleshooting support, along with many other important details about the panels. But that was the last time I heard from him. Before the panels could properly be turned on we needed to pass the city inspection. Once that passed DTE would come out and switch boxes so the panels could finally be turned on. (Setting up the inspections was Modern Mill's job.) Once the panels were installed it took another 5-6 months to finally get the city to come inspect. In those 5 plus months my DTE tripled from what I was paying before getting the panels installed. Unable to figure out the problem we just kept waiting for the inspection appointment and any update from Modern Mill. We called over and over and got radio silence. Once the inspector finally came out (due to my husband and friends helping coordinate and navigate around this - no help from Modern Mill) I explained the situation and how I was paying so much on my electricity. He said that there was definitely something wrong, and I should keep making phone calls and asking questions. He also told us that the inspection really shouldn't have passed because of how things were placed, and hooked up but there was no actual threat of danger to the home from what he could tell... So because of how it had been a nightmare getting the panels going he said he would pass the inspection and my husband would have to finish and fix the work that Modern Mill failed to do correctly. Once that passed we were able to get DTE to come and switch the boxes so we could finally get the panels running. Between all those months waiting around, I made many phone calls trying to figure out my DTE bill, talking to the bank trying to get more time on payments seeing that we were paying about $800-900 per month, to DTE - the bank actually told me that Modern Mill reportedly said they had gone out of business and that there wasn't anything we could do about getting everything finished and that we were pretty much on our own trying to figure the rest. After someone finally being guided to the DTE solar department and talking to them, we finally had our answer about why our DTE bill was so high. When Modern Mill came out and installed the panels they turned the panels on right away without the proper inspection and without DTE switching the boxes over. All the energy the panels were drawing in was converted as usage and I was getting billed my regular electricity usage plus everything that the panels were producing. In 2021, my bill annual history was $1,419. In 2022 (when the panels were installed) it was $6,858. Mind you 2022 was the first year that we did NOT put up our pool, and our AC unit literally broke at the beginning of summer so we did not have working AC at all that summer. (Nope still not working lol) Our usage was way lower than any other year, but our bills were way higher. All DTE could do for me was open an investigation and look into it, (there is no actual way to tell what was actual usage and what was usage that the panels were drawing in) that was a few weeks ago. I have yet to hear from them. With the amount of panels that we had installed we were told that it should run about 90% plus of our household electricity consumption and that our DTE bills should be less than $80 if even that. Again, definitely not the case. With our panels drawing the most amount of energy during the summer (before they were PROPERLY installed) and us not having the app to track it, we really have no way of even knowing if this headache was even worth it. But seeing at how my DTE skyrocketed at that time, I am guessing they were drawing in a good amount. To be continued.... read more

This is the worse company I have ever worked for. The manger is always late and or just doesn't come in. Has a I don't care about attitude. Rani will spend hours in the bathroom doing who know what. You will always feel belittled by her. She's will disappear for hours at a time and will constantly make you feel bad about yourself. She doesn't work and puts all the pressure on employees to make an appt. and if something goes wrong with the appt the employees will be to blame for no reason. She will always interrupt you while you are in the phone with a customer. She thinks she always right and when she's wrong she will not apologize but some how will put the blame on you. I signed a contract stating I will get benefits After 3 months. I was there for 10 months and never saw a single benefit. And when asked about the manger told me sorry that's not possible anymore. Never got holiday pay. When I tried to explain how I felt and give my respectable 2 week notice the manger fired me on spot. I have never felt so unvalued and uncomfortable in a work place. I had a good meeting with a rep from Modern Mill. After hearing that he drove almost 3 hours to meet with me I felt a little bad that I didn't have a copy of my electric bill for him to review. He sat with me and helped me contact my utility company to get the info he needed but they would only mail it to me. He was understanding and talked with me about the tax credit, how to make my home more efficient and explained how solar could benefit me and my kids down the road. Sean Heiman at Modern Mill Solar is a great salesman. He is great about answering questions regarding savings on elecric and the other benefits that come along with getting solar panels.
