Highly recommend this store for their lighting expertise and excellent service. I have two table lamps with dimmable sockets that were built for incandescent lightbulbs; but since you can't buy those anymore, I wanted to see if it was possible to convert them for dimmable LED bulbs by simply replacing the sockets. No place I called could give me a straight answer, but one of them recommended I reach out to Modern Lighting. They actually trialled my question on a lamp they had in house, so that I didn't have to drive to them until there was reasonable certainty they could do what I needed. They quoted me a price, and I went in the next day. Not only did they get the job done, it ended up costing less than their estimate. My husband and I were looking to update some light fixtures in our home and after spending many weekends searching and coming up empty handed, we were ready to settle for something we weren't crazy about. Our contractor recommended Modern Lightening and we are so glad he did. We literally walked in and immediately saw "the one." haha Just as other reviews mentioned, it can be very overwhelming because of the amount of inventory they carry. I've been on the hunt for an elusive fluorescent replacement bulb (they're phasing them out) and have searched high, low, and every online site in between. A quick call to Modern Lighting and an engaging and thorough call with Don proved to be just what I needed! While not found immediately, Don took my info and intended to create an order for me (no one else I've spoken to elsewhere offered this up). A mere 5-10 minutes later, Don called me back to indicate that he found the great (cool) "white whale" in stock at the store and he put a couple aside for me. After the better part of a week looking for this bulb, I was able to head over to the store and pick it up (perfectly packaged for the commute!) right away! After examining the lamp, the woman working with me said in no uncertain terms that there were "too many variables" and that Modern Lighting would not work on this lamp. I was told to "look up" a lamp restorer, as no referral was given to me when I asked. No apology was given, just what felt like a "dismissal." Wow!!! This place has gorgeous lights at amazing prices! I did all my lighting in my new house through them and I am so pleased and happy. I also bought all my bathroom mirrors, living room mirror and console through them. I worked with Jeff, and anyone who knows me, knows I can be a big pain to deal with because I am super picky, want excellent service and great value. Jeff is so patient and so sweet and never lost his cool even when i would arrive 3 minutes before closing. He was responsive in letting me know when my items will come in and when things were back ordered, he allowed me to order other items. Jeff even let me borrow a few small fixtures to see if I liked the way it look in my home with a credit card deposit. This is no easy task because it requires him to take down the items from the ceilings/walls and package them nicely so they don't get damaged during transportation. Once all my items arrived, Jeff arranged for them to be delivered to my house for no additional fee. This was very helpful since I am pregnant and wouldn't have been able to go back and forth to get the items since some items are heavy. When I had a problem (one of my mirrors arrived scratched out of the box), Jeff arranged for someone to come to try to fix it. And they said if it can't be fixed they will help me try to work with the manufacturer to get a replacement. Debbie and Mike are the owners and they are very helpful and accommodating. I was considering buying their store display for a console. When it arrived damaged, they gave me the option to buy it at a discount or purchase a brand new one. I chose to get a new one and they let me use the old one in my home until the new one comes. From the great products to the wonderful service, I would highly recommend anyone who is looking for lighting, mirrors and maybe even small furniture pieces or art, to come check them out. You know they are good when both my contractor for my renovation and my interior designer (award winning in Pasadena) use Modern Lighting for the houses they work on. I've also seen other designers ordering mirrors and light fixtures for their clients here. The last one I met here from Altadena was working with Jeff too. The shop is crammed full of lights, and during the months we were in and out of the store while we were remodeling, we saw the sales associates constantly putting together new lights for display. Jeff was super helpful with our initial order, and just as patient and helpful every time we returned- for new lights, for parts, to troubleshoot the lights we had ordered. He was full of great practical advice. I shopped here for my whole house and will recommend anyone who wants to buy lighting for their house. Debbie, the owner booked a few hours for our first appointment and we got a lot done. It took a few more appointments to finish the process. I was very confused with choosing so much at one time. Debbie made it very easy for me. She is very knowledgable and will help you with your budget. If I like something expensive, she knew exactly what book to find a less expensive version. I still have a few more chandeliers to buy, but have to wait a little. Definitely I Will be buying it here. A mom and pop business, that I will always support. I was calling around to fix my broken chandelier and when I called Modern Lighting they advised me that they do fix light fixtures. I was advised that they closed at 4 so I drove in traffic for 45 minutes to take them my chandelier. As soon as I walked in I was told that they only fixed their light fixtures which they sold. I then advised the woman at the counter that I had called earlier and was not told such thing. She then said I should have asked. As a consumer, this is extremely bad customer service. Instead of being apologic I was being blamed for not asking the right questions! So please be advised do not waste your time and gas to take your light fixtures in to be repaired unless you purchased them there at their store. read more

I went to fix two lamps here and what I found to be the most annoying is the front desk staff who were Very RUDE and just socially inept to deal with the public. There are almost 4 women as you walk inside, one is more ruder than the other and no wonder there are only few reviews here, one experience is enough to NEVER ever go back to this place again. I took in my beloved 1960's table lamp which no longer worked and was practically falling off it's base. Now it is back home looking beautiful thanks to everyone there. Yes, there are times that they are SWAMPED with people and customer service appears to be weak, but something worth having is worth waiting for. If you want personal service, this is the place to go. One of the fixtures we bought from them had a shade that dropped out of place. It wasn't until I took the whole thing apart a few years later that I realized that the manufacturer had used the wrong size part to secure it. Modern Lighting took care of getting the part from the manufacturer, shipping it to me to save a 20 mile drive, and calling to ensure it arrived & worked. What sets them apart is that they actually will help you SOLVE your problem or issues (should any arise at installation etc.) with any light fixture that you purchase from them or suggest a solution to your lighting problem. They come up with SOLUTIONS instead of the typical "sorry, can't help you" response that you get from every other corporate chain store. They do great repairs and are reasonable with their pricing which is why they get 3 stars. One star for their customer service. I'm not convinced the people here love their jobs. I am so glad Yelp exists. I admired a light fixture at a friend's home (in Sierra Madre) and I was told where it could be purchased, at Modern Lighting. I spent 45 minutes in the store making a decision on a purchase. I went to ask a few questions and spent a great amount of time waiting to be helped. I was never greeted, nor did anyone ever say they would help me soon. In fact, I couldn't even get any eye contact. I went back to look at the light fixture and store employees passed me several times.
