I cannot say enough good things about this place. I got a Porsche Cayman from San Diego Porsche with a couple thousand miles on it and wanted to get a clear bra put on it for protection. Unfortunately, the previous owner had put a front license plate on so Porsche offered to send it to a shop they used to have the holes filled in and painted. After it was done, I brought it to Modern Image for the clear bra. I had reached out to my friend who has many super cars and he said he would ONLY use Modern Image and that Enrico (the owner) was the best. With that referral, I dropped off my Porsche. I got a call later from Enrico, himself, explaining he was looking at the car and was curious who had worked on the bumper. I explained that Porsche had sent the car out to a shop for the repair. He explained to me that the paint job that was done on it was done very poorly, and that he was worried that if he installed the clear bra, it could ruin the look of the paint, and it might not last. With that info, I contacted Porsche who was happy to remedy the situation and send it to an alternative shop to fix the bumper. Enrico not only coordinated with Porsche to ensure my bumper was painted properly but got my car from the body shop and installed the clear bra (this time with a properly painted bumper). Honestly, I am shocked at how above and beyond the shop went to notify the owner (Enrico) when they noticed the bumper when installing, and that the owner HIMSELF reached out to me. He then insured that I got my car handled properly, even though the problem had nothing to do with him. I feel any other shop would've just slapped the bra on it and called it a day since that's how the car arrived. I didn't realize that the paint job was poor because I'm not an expert in the area and I am very thankful that I took my car to Modern Image over any other shop because I probably would've ended up with a problem on the front bumper in a short amount of time. Now, my car is protected and also has the proper paint job that should've been done the first time all thanks to Modern Image. I will only refer people to this shop... EVER. I can see why my friend with all of his super cars only takes his cars to this shop. I also appreciated that Enrico treated me with the same level of service as if I was bringing in a new Lamborghini Aventador. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS!

I wanted to wrap my motorcycle and was frustrated to see how few experienced shops willing to do work on motorcycles. One shop suggested I reach out to Modern Image and I was not disappointed. My initial call with owner Enrico was a helpful conversation providing a range of cost and setting a time to bring the bike in for a more detailed eval. It's important to also note that the global COVID supply chain problems impact vinyl wraps since I understood that the glue used is in short supply. That means inventory may be challenging for certain brands/colors, though Modern Image still had a good inventory. The bike took 5 days (as promised) and I was very happy with the job done. Anyone can wrap, but Enrico had suggestions on the design which I greatly appreciated. The entire team is very capable and strongly recommended. While they do wrap supercars, install tints, etc., if you have a motorcycle this is your must go-to place.

I brought my new Silverado here at the end of 2021 to have the emblems painted a gloss black. I was quoted for $360 to get the 4 emblems painted which I was comfortable with. It took a few days for it to get done to allow for the paint to fully cure, and at first I loved it. I did not want to do a cheap little emblem Plasti-dip job on my brand new truck which is why I was comfortable with the price expecting it to be done right and to look great. Although, a little over a year later I started to notice that one of the emblems began to chip away. Shortly after that, all 4 began to have the paint chip away more & more. I was confused at first because I made sure to be careful with the emblems while washing my truck even though I expected the paint to hold up (being as how it took a few days to cure). But after inspecting it and seeing how easily the paint chips away with my fingernail, it's obviously apparent that this was a cheap paint job. I contacted Modern Image and let them know the situation as well as provided pictures of the emblems and the invoice. They were slow to respond, but when they finally did the response I received was "It's been over a year and this job has a year warranty. We can try to touch it up free of charge or you can get this redone with 20% off." I thought maybe they'd offer to re-do it since it was done not too long ago, but I was wrong. I responded back saying "I would like to have them touched up. I'm not looking to spend more money on something that barely lasted over a year." .....They have yet to respond back, and it's been over 9 days now. After all of this with Modern Image I'd have to say I definitely don't recommend them and I won't be going back to them for anything. All in all their customer service is just like the service and jobs they provide: poor.

Called regarding having options for my 2024 F250 King Ranch. Spoke with Jada who requested that I bring my truck by for Enrico to look at. We decided on the Icon Rockclear instead of the ceramic coating for its durability and appearance. First, I was immediately impressed with the facility being so clean and sterile, not to mention the impressive cars inside that they were working on and showing me the product. Enrico and his team not only delivered a beautiful finished product but gave me a timeline and stuck to it. It's now been 6 months and my truck has been through rain, mud, dirt and street grime and I will tell you it still looks brand new! The shine literally sets it apart and I often receive comments on the appearance of it! I don't ever write reviews but I'm so impressed with the entire experience with the product, Enrico, Jada and the entire team I couldn't not recommend them! Icon Rockclear is the FUTURE and worth every penny! I will definitely be a return customer bringing my sandcar & RV and will continue to recommend Enrico and his team every chance I get! I believe in Modern Image and Icon Rockclear so much that I carry and handout their business pamphlet whenever anyone asks me what I use on my truck! read more

This place was so helpful and delivered a premium final product. I called a few other tint places and the service over the phone here was great! The price was reasonable and all the employees I dealt with were focused on doing their job well. My vehicle is so much nicer to drive with tint now. Brought in my Aston Martin DB11 for full body ppf, carbon fiber trim, window tint, windshield protector, and rims. 10/10. Best quality work in the area. Ive taken my cars to other shops and this one by far is the best. Enrico knows his stuff. They also did the wraps for all the cars in Fast and the Furious. I wanted to Black Out my 4-Runner. These guys talked me through each piece over the phone, recommended different options and emailed me itemized pricing. I had them paint the TOYOTA logo and roof rack and it turned out gorgeous. Kory was super helpful and patient through multiple phone calls and pricing conversations. I was looking for a shop to install 3M Crystalline window tint, and if you've shopped around for tint installers in San Diego, you already know how many shops there are to choose from. However, only Modern Image have the 3M Preferred Installer badge next to their business name on 3M's website, and now I truly understand why. I've heard this film is finicky and more difficult to install than most other films. In fact, before I learned about Modern Image, I had selected other shops to install this film on other vehicles, and they proved that point with multiple less-than-perfect installations. Fingerprints, wrinkles, and inclusions all seemed to be the norm. However, this time around, I put my trust in Modern Image and couldn't be happier with the results. The fact that owners of exotic cars also trust their babies into the care of Modern Image really speaks volumes. For the quality of work, the price of installation on my CUV was reasonable. If you're looking for an excellent installation of a high quality product, Modern Image is your spot. read more

Modern Image clear Bra'd my Pista- put 200 miles on a limited production car, before I was able to drive it. Additionally- Modern Image wrapped my Mclaren 600LT. They put over 600 miles on the car, in Addition to curbing the right front wheel and tire side wall. They provided no remedy other than touch up paint for the wheels and rubber glue for the tire side wall. O'gara coach (San Diego) representatives were witness'. I returned my car for corrections that same Friday. I then took my 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista to the Porsche of San Diego Cars and Coffee event, where Modern Image took the liberty upon themselves to take the Mclaren 600LT (without) my permission to the cars and coffee- and they installed their own business logos on my car for marketing in front of over 700 patrons. They provided no remedy. read more

I had my car done at modern image for a clear bra wrap and they did an excellent job. When I brought it home I noticed a couple of small areas that needed to be smoothed out. I've been busy but I finally had some time yesterday to bring it in. I spoke to Corey on the phone and she couldn't have been more helpful and nice. She told me to just bring it in and they would take care of it. When I arrived she saw it and said no problem. They took care of it in under 5 minutes and told me if I see anything else to just bring it in and they'll take care of it. I was back on the road and happy. Corey and this business is great. Phenomenal customer service and equally great execution!! Enrico & Co. installed a clear bra on the front of my X5M (hood, bumper, mirrors, headlights, etc) and I just picked it up and could not be more thrilled. Had Modern Image do the work in concert with my detailer -- Time to Shine Detailing -- so the underlying paint could be polished/corrected before they installed the clear bra and both made it super easy to coordinate the install and detail! No seams or lines on the clear bra. Looks perfect!! read more

History

Established in 1991.

Modern Image Signworks was started in 1991 by the founder, Robert Wilson, in Orange County, California. Robert was looking for an alternative to expensive painted automotive graphic designs. Early on, Modern Image saw the rapid growing trend of the import tuner world and developed a clientele that included, AEM, Borla, Nitto Tires, Momo, Nissan of North America, Volkswagen of North America, Yokohama Tire, and many others. In 1996, Enrico Del Mar joined the Modern Image team. Growing up in Los Angeles during the 80s, Enrico watched the custom import car scene explode and longed for his own custom ride. In the mid 90s, Enrico purchased a Mitsubishi Eclipse that he tricked out and was featured in Super Street Magazine. Robert and Enrico would go on to become pioneers in the vehicle graphics industry. Fresh designs year after year have earned them reputations as a trend setters. They like to stay one step ahead and give customers what they might see at other shops in a few months.

I have always had a passion for cars, which is what initially led me to working at Modern Image as a helper. Starting from the bottom I would help with any job that I could. I learned as much about installation processes, and materials to find the best ways to cost effectively meet the customers needs without sacrificing quality. They've handled front PPF, full vinyl wraps, ceramic coatings, and tint on multiple cars for me, always with outstanding attention to detail and very fair pricing for the quality of work delivered. I've gone elsewhere before and paid more, only to get inferior results. That's exactly why Monumental Workx has become my go-to. I recently purchased a 2026 Model Y Performance and initially planned for front-end PPF, a few high-impact areas, ceramic coating, and tint. I reached out to Theo through his website, did my usual due diligence with other shops, but already knew I'd likely end up back at Monumental Workx. They're not the cheapest--and they don't try to be. Quality isn't cheap, and if you want it done right, this is the place. I scheduled my appointment shortly after delivery, but ended up calling Theo the same day I took delivery to see if I could bring the car in immediately. He responded quickly and got me in right away. Once there, Arturo walked me through the options and made a great point: patchwork PPF wouldn't look as clean as a full-body PPF for only a bit more money. After thinking it over, I realized he was absolutely right--and I'm very glad I listened. Originally, I was going to go with gloss PPF, but overnight I changed my mind and decided (with my wife) to switch to stealth PPF. Thankfully, I caught them early enough, and they were super responsive in accommodating the change. I couldn't be happier with that decision--the car looks incredible, and it was worth every penny. One thing that really shows their level of care: during the PPF install, they discovered a hidden manufacturing defect in my spoiler. I would have never noticed it myself, and most shops probably wouldn't have said anything. But Arturo pointed it out immediately so I could get Tesla to replace it. Even better, once Tesla provided the replacement spoiler, Arturo personally installed it and made sure everything fit perfectly without compromising the PPF. Watching him work, it's clear he's extremely skilled and meticulous. Now everything is flawless. I could go on, but the photos don't even do the work justice. When I get my next vehicle, it's going straight to Theo and Arturo at Monumental Workx. Thanks again, guys!

At checkout, I was also surprised to see a tip screen with suggested amounts that felt pretty high given the service. I ended up leaving a small tip, but the experience itself didn't really match that level of expectation. I also would have appreciated a quick walkthrough of the work that was done--especially at that price point--but it was more of a quick handoff of the keys. I came back for the 10-day follow-up and made a point to ask about timing ahead of time. I was told it would take about an hour. I arrived early, but after an hour the car hadn't been touched yet, and there wasn't any update unless I asked. That part was frustrating. So, they ended up rushing my 10-day follow-up inspection. Gave the car a quick rinse and handed me the keys. What was the point of driving down from Carlsbad??? Over 3 hours wasted. For comparison, I had a great experience at their Kearny Mesa location previously, so I know what they're capable of. This location is stretched thin, which seemed to impact communication and overall service. I was not the only customer in the lobby feeling this way. Given the type of clientele they're working with and the pricing, I was expecting a bit more consistency and attention to detail. Their follow-up consisted of more sales pitches of coupons for services I already had done. Would have been nice to have the discounts PRIOR to the work! I planned on using the wash program and mentioned to Jasmine my poor service experience. Think there was follow-up? Nada. So, thumbs "kind of" up for Ceramic Pro but thumbs down for this location. Overall, I think the company itself does good work, and have used the Kearny Mesa location in the past several times with excellent success!! I would not choose this location again.
