Dave replaced a part of the base molding in my basement that had been damaged (15 feet) . The finished molding looks seamless and is matched up perfectly to the existing molding that has been there for years. He pays attention to detail and is very thorough. We hired Modern Home, initially, to tile our basement, but found out our stairs were in bad shape and he replaced those as well. The craftsmanship is top notch as our tiles are level and our stairs won't make a creaking sound for many many years. In the basement, he also installed a closet underneath our stairs and built the doors out of some leftover stair treads that we had (and the doors look good). The reason we didn't rate 5 stars was just due to timing as it took longer than we anticipated, even after 2-3 change orders. Part of it wasn't his fault as he broke a pinky, but he worked through the pain which we really appreciated. However, now that everything is completed, we're very excited to have our basement back and our dining room, where all of the initial stuff from the basement was placed while we had the tile/stairs done. read more

Dave and his crew completed our house renovation project that involved interior painting with wallpaper removal, installing recessed lighting in 9 rooms and sanding and refinishing the first level wooden floors. What impressed me about the whole project was that Dave was always accessible and we had an open line of communication throughout the process. He took the time to discuss in detail the scope of work and answered all our doubts and questions at every juncture. Sometimes, even if we did not agree on a few things, Dave took the patience to explain things to us and made us see his way, which is really a great credit to him. All work was done with permits and was extremely professional. Guests to our house rave about the colors in the rooms and praise the expert way in which the trims were handled. Given that there was a lot of work that needed to be accomplished, I have to say that the work was done on time and yet with great attention to detail. In addition, Dave himself helped us with a lot of small projects around the house while the main projects were going on - like fixing our master bedroom toilet, wall mounting our TVs etc. So it felt like a one-stop-shop white glove kind of service. IF YOU NEED A CONTRACTOR IN THE MORRISTOWN AREA, HIRE DAVE AND MODERN HOME IMPROVEMENTS!!! Last August, I was moving apartments and was looking for a contractor to come touch up the wear and tear I had put my apartment through over the past year. There were various holes I had drilled into the walls to hang picture frames, etc, and i have a pet that had chewed the trip on my windowsill, and baseboard throughout my apartment. Being fresh out of college and new to the workforce, I was looking for someone to come by and fix it for cheap so that I could get my security deposit back. Dave came by, took one look at the various needs and refused to do the work because he didn't want to charge me for his time. Instead, free of charge, Dave supplied me with the materials and showed me how to fix the damages myself. He went out of his way to make sure I had the materials to do the job and even made himself available over the phone to assist me with any questions that I had as I went about the repair process. Dave even checked back in on me a few days later to make sure that I was all set. All free of charge. Dave fixed a large hole in my ceiling caused by water leak. He did a good job with the patch job and painting. While he was at it, he also fixed my broken porch screen and adjusted my hanging light in the kitchen free of charge coz he couldn't stand that they weren't perfect. I was the summit NJ bathroom renovation. I had my floor tiles replaced and my wall tiles replaced. The project took weeks longer than expected. Dave showed up to the project mid day to complete. He left all of his materials throughout the house. Coffee table (was not part of the project) was damaged because paint was spilled. As the owner, I had to confront Dave about this spill and he was aware of the spill and never reported it to myself. Integrity is key when trusting someone to enter and exit your home, and I do not trust the honesty of modern home improvement. read more

We hired Modern Home Improvements to fix problems we discovered in the home we purchased that had been flipped by another contractor. We found David to be refreshingly upfront - other contractors had recommended making certain changes and improvements and David helped us to determine what was truly necessary, understanding that we were on a tight budget. David did renovations to improve my kitchen layout/cabinets/backsplash, electrical work, painting, plumbing, and a number of other jobs. We are really happy with the end results of everything. The one downside was that the work took longer than expected, however this is because I kept adding things to the work order and because David and his team are perfectionists and make sure to take the time to do the job right, rather than rushing through it. David and his team also encountered work that was done poorly by the previous contractors and went above and beyond to fix it - including bad electrical wiring. We had no idea that this problem even existed so we really appreciated that David told us about it and took the time to fix it. At one point, David was not satisfied with the way a paint job came out and took an extra day to redo it himself, even though I hadn't noticed anything wrong with it! We really appreciated the attention to detail. It's also rare to find a contractor that you can trust to leave alone in your home (with pets too). Modern Home Improvements is also really easy to communicate with about pricing and availability, something that is rare for these types of companies these days.
