I am shocked at the amount of bad reviews on here. I have been going here for 2 years and have never had a bad experience. Both Lana and Rosana have cut and colored my hair and always do a wonderful job. They are also very sweet and make the appointment relaxing. I highly recommend this salon! read more

I am literally embarrassed to come to work with the haircut they gave me. I looked like Willy Wonka after the first lady cut my hair. She gave up and made a 2nd lady try to fix it. By the time it was over my shoulder length hair was cut like a punk rocker. It was supposed to be an asymmetrical lob(long bob) with texture. The first lady insulted the texture of my hair the entire time and then had the nerve to ask me if my husband likes my tatoos! She offered not even an apology or discount for what she did to my hair. Everyone says I shouldn't have paid her a dime. But I was so embarrassed I just paid and left disgusted. I literally feel like I need a wig till this grows out. read more

This salon is very close to my house so I thought I would give then a try. I made an appointment a week in advance. When I got there I sat for 45 minutes after my scheduled apt while they worked on they worked on other peoples hair, Second of all I ask for recomendations on what color to dye my hair since I already have highlights and 3 inches of outgrowth, They gave me the book of swatches and told me to pick some colors and they will mix them together. I wanted and ash-blond color and ended up getting ash blond at the botton and orangy-red at the top. I told her I was not happy with this color and she insisted that the red would fade away in a few washes. 2 week had passed and the red only got worse!! I called and made another appt. This time they got me in on time but were not happy when I requested that they fix there mistake for free. Usually places want you to be happy with there sevice. They refused to fix it for free but gave me a discount on some blond highlights to off set the red. Even the highlights were horrid!!! The stylist even admitted to me that she was not happy with them but she was hungry and had to eat. I paid and left. Don't waste your time or money at this place!! read more

DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE! Stylist striped my hair of ALL its protein. They do NOT know how to correctly use bleach. When I asked if she could use a wide tooth comb on my wet hair she look annoyed. I had to go to another salon because they would NOT admit it was fried. The other salon was horrified at the state of my hair. It was textbook over-processed.I ended up having to cut 10 inches because my hair was coming out in CLUMPS. When I asked for the owner to call me I was offered 3 moisturizing treatments. Please save yourself the headache. Come to find out the lady I originally scheduled my appointment with, was the Manager. She passed me onto another stylist so she could rearrange the layout of the salon. Having never met her I wasn't aware of the swap. They are known in the industry for doing poor color. Ulta knew without me having to name the salon by the poor quality of work. They weren't empathetic. I had to demand and wait 40 min for them to process a refund. read more

I got my hair cut here before by Rouzana. Just moved out here and my sisters and I all have long beautiful thick hair. She is amazing, very patient understands what we want and need. I wouldnt trust anyone else here, I only go to her. I have a hard time trusting anyone with cutting my hair, but I trust her! read more

This is the only salon I have ventured to since moving to the area and my first two visits were awesome. Left happy with my trim and blow dry. Unfortunately my last experience was the opposite and sour. I had made an appointment for 5:30pm for a Thursday (they close at 7pm) and when I got there, no one was around to greet me. Both girls working were in the back and once they finally noticed me they seemed annoyed to find someone at the salon. I mentioned my appointment to the new girl with purple hair and she said she had no idea about my appointment. I knew right away it was not gonna go well by the way she shampooed my hair. My hair usually lasts with a nice blow dry for three days but with this one I had to wash it the next day and can't even tell I got a trim a week after. read more

Called and made the appointment with Josie. Arrived at 10:30 and Josie was starting a perm on a young lady with long hair. I stated that I was her 10:30 and needed to be taken on time as I am on oxygen as she was advised, and limited time restriction. Josie said she had just gotten a walk in. Hello ? Needless to say no apology or concern I got up and left this place. So glad I did ! This was going to be the first appointment and it never happened and never will. Called Phase II and the manager said come on by. WOW ! Amazing customer service and style. I LOVE IT !! Thanks Cherie . Don't go to Modern Hair design (Josie) unless you like disrespect and someone who doesn't value you or your time. Unbelievable. read more

I just had a wash, haircut, and style here and I believe the owner was the own who did it. She did an amazing job and was super friendly!

As a customer going on several years now, I do recommend trying this shop as I have been very happy there. The current owner/stylist is really talented and understands MY hair. She keeps good records of my preferences and has been able to repeat them every appointment. She really tries to please and has a great skill set. The salon is clean and well appointed. You can walk in but I recommend an appointment. read more

I like the salon. I've had all of the girls work on my hair, and it turns out nice every time. They keep notes in their system and actually refer to them before getting too deep into what I want to do. I can be thrifty, but I don't mind spending a little more to go here. read more

I had a horrible experience here yesterday! Sorry for the long text but... I really needed to get a brow wax but couldn't get a same day appointment at my normal salon. I was running errands in the area and came by for a walk-in. They took me back right away and two employees came into the room. I was very specific that I wanted to keep the general thick shape but just wanted the underside cleaned up. Easy, right? Nope. Half way through my waxing I realized that the woman doing my brows was new and the woman watching was supervising. The new woman was doing such a horrible job that the other woman stepped in. She did my other brow and then starting plucking the first brow. She then tried to tell me the last person that waxed my brow (my normal esthetician) made one portion really thin. I told her that no absolutely she didn't, she always does a perfect job and I would have noticed. When they gave me the mirror to look I was horrified. Not only were they extremely thin (NOT what I asked), they were both different shapes and the first brow done had a huge chunk out of the middle!!! I complained and questioned how they could do that and try to blame it on someone else. They apologized and charged me 1/2 price which I thought was completely ridiculous that they would even charge me in the first place. I was upset so I just paid and left. Today the brow that the new person waxed is swollen, red and BRUISED! Not only do my brows look horrible, but I have a swollen and red eyebrow. I know it will heal, and my brows will grow back but I was just disgusted that they would let an amateur do my brows then try to tell me it was already like that. I made a Yelp account just to warn anyone considering getting any sort of service done here. You've been warned. read more

I have been going to Modern Hair Design for the past three years and have never had a bad experience. Lana is my usual stylist, but I have also seen Josie when Lana was on vacation. Both of them give great haircuts and I will continue going back. read more

I debated rating this place lower so I could keep it all to myself, but I figured I would do them the service they do me. Always do a fantastic job with my hair, and they can do Guy's haircuts which I find a lot of places surprisingly mess up on. They're willing to fit me in on short notice, and they don't charge an arm and a leg! Always friendly and the Russian girls are hot! ;). read more

I walked into this salon today to schedule an appointment for a future date, as I was in the area. I walked in and was noticed by at least one employee, and was completely ignored. I stood there for 2 minutes before I walked out. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! If this was the last salon on the face of the earth, I'd rather trim my hair with a dull knife than go back there again. This salon is not worthy of your hard earned money. read more

Wonderful experience! Josie squeezed me in last minute and fixed a grown out bad haircut from a previous salon. She gave me EXACTLY what I wanted and style it perfectly! I will definitely be back! read more

I so can relate to Larry's review. I have been a customer since Modern Hair opened, having received exemplary service from Aimee and more recently, another fine stylist. I called for an appointment for cut and color today. Both of the women who cut and color my hair were away. I asked Sammie if she was available and she told me she was busy today and recommended Sonya. I so hoped this wasn't the foul-mouthed woman I observed on my last visit. When I arrived at the salon, Sonya (indeed, the foul-mouthed one) was at the reception desk. I told her I was there to see her for a scheduled appointment. She immediately began to interrogate me, asking questions I had no idea how to answer; for example, what type of color did you have last time... full-color? Touch up? What color was used, etc. I explained to Sonya that I really didn't know, I only knew that the cut and color I received on my last visit was the best I ever had. She was obviously frustrated with me and made no attempt to hide it. At that point she motioned me back to the chair and I before I sat, asked if she was angry, since her tone clearly was angry and demeaning. I uneasily sat and quickly concluded it was definitely not in my best interest to remain. Conclusion... I went around the corner to the competition and received great service (and paid less, by the way). I am loyal to the businesses I frequent and try to give my business to local folks. I am definitely not a prude and am no stranger to cursing... However, the language Sonya used during my last visit was completely out of line (f--k just isn't okay in front of customers). Her behavior today was demeaning, condescending and odd. Sammie lost a good customer today and I won't be shy about sharing my experience with others. read more

The haircuts are wonderful. If all you care about is getting a great haircut, then this is the place for you. The owner, Sammie gave me and my daughter a gorgeous haircut and a great style, and I even went back...however, the other stylists are un-professional, the music is either too loud or stuck on static, Sammi answers phone, talks to the other stylists or other customers, during your haircut, and they seem to have difficulty with appointment setting, and finding your name in the computer. My distinct impression is that Sammie would love to do just hair and is very talented at it, but is not adept at handling her stylists, or hiring help so she can give you the relaxing experience you deserve read more

Uh,,the description says this place is luxury. No. Besides that, this was my first time in, the first thing the hair dresser comments on is how extremely dry my hair is. And asked have I been swimming, why is it so dry?! Idk what to tell you I have extremely dry hair, and thanks? I'm use to it though, but it still makes me made. I should know better, and just go to a place that knows how to work with curly, dry hair. I left frizzy and bummed out. This place just felt like a step up from Cost Cutters, and honestly I wish I would have just went there and saved my $60. Nothing about Modern Hair makes me want to go back. read more

Ok place to go for a very simple, basic cut. Otherwise I would avoid this salon. The lady who cut my hair was visibly nervous and inexperienced at finishing. read more

The color and cut was fine; however, make sure you discuss prices up front. The window sign stated "all over color $45" and "womens cut $45". So, I figured $90 plus tip ( I have short hair)... wrong. I got to the check out to have her tell me, I owed $170. She charged me $75 for "all over color", $55 for root touch up (this blew my mind). I had to leave I was so pissed off. She tried to tell me, the root touch up was for the bleach she had to use to color my hair, which I would have thought that would have been a part of the "all over color" charge. Furthermore, if I am getting all over color, why would I need a "root touch up" charge? I still tipped her, but I felt her tactic was shady. I will never go back due to the price bait and switch and my ability to lose it, quickly, over nonsense like this. When I asked her about the price sign in the front window, her response was "we havent used those prices in a long time, we don't even use those prices anymore". Once again, get the price of the services up front or you will be unpleasantly surprised and angry when you leave. read more

Don't get your hair cut at this salon! They can do good at trimming but if you want a new style don't go here! I went in with a photo of a hair style that should have been below my shoulders and walked out with a style that doesn't even touch my shoulders. The stylist knew she cut it to short and told me " it'll grow out ". WTF! read more
