If you live nearby I'm sure it's your liquor store already. If you live in Highlandtown or Canton it's worth going out of your way. Warning! For some reason they don't carry 40 oz malt liquor. The second positive is that they sell all kinds of stuff including a few cold non-alcoholic drinks which really hit the spot on a Mid-Atlantic summer day. The third positive is that I couldn't believe some of the knock-down prices they have on other stuff that is way, way more expensive out in the rich suburbs. If you happen to be in East Baltimore it's worth coming by to give them a try. The negative, I guess, is that you often have to slip past beggars and panhandlers to get into the store, which isn't really a negative for the store itself, but for Baltimore. It's just sad and we collectively have enough money to take care of the problem. Have you been out to Towson and seen some of the luxury on display in Bel Air, just down the road? I was going to say that Bayview is in a bad part of town but then I realized I only need to say "it's in Baltimore." I'm just kidding. I love Baltimore, and there are lots of lovely parts of Baltimore, but what is clear from knowing this city quite well, is that it needs a lot more love, a lot more understanding, a lot gentler policing, and a hell of a lot of money poured into it. The star of the story is Trish in Pharmacy who helped me on the phone Monday and today Wednesday. As promised, she kept track of the prescriptions as they came in, double checked that everything was OK and did so cheerfully. There was one prescription I was hesitant to transfer due to the lengthy process it took to get approved. Tricia told me what she could do and when and how I could cancell it if I wanted to keep it at the old, bad place. I mean talk about above and beyond, this was surprise and delight! The rest of the store was clean, well organized and filled with really friendly folk. I left another Harris Teeter because I could not say nice things about their service. Had I known how great this store and Tricia are, I could have saved myself the hassle of the mail order pharmacy and supported Harris Teeter as their company values mean a lot to me. Again, Tricia is a perfect example of why Harris Teeter is worth supporting despite the bad service at the Whitstone Way store.
