I want to start off by saying, I never actually made it to my appointment, so this review has nothing to do with the dentist himself. On the recommendation of my husband I called this dentist back in June and let them know I was looking for a new dentist. Teonna assisted and at the time was pleasant. She mentioned they were back logged due to Covid and could not get me in until August. Even thought I was almost a full year out from my normal cleaning due to Covid, I understood. I explained to her it had been awhile since my last cleaning and was eager to get back into the dentist. Yes, I'm one of the strange people that don't mind the dentist. So, I sent over all my records and thought everything was good to go. A week before my appointment, I receive an e-mail telling me that I have to pay for a pano X-ray since I'm a new patient and my insurance doesn't cover it. When I asked why, the response I was received was as follows, " We have to have this X-Ray of the entire mouth done at your first visit....If the x-ray was done within the year we could request it from your previous dentist office, but that's not the case. This will be what happens at any office you choose." No explanation as to whether this was actually required by my insurance, law, etc. or if this was merely a internal procedure for this specific dental office. I asked to please cancel my appointment because if my insurance wouldn't pay for something the dentist was going to require, then I shouldn't be required to do it. Keep in mind, my 36 months per my insurance would be up about 6 months. I suggested they inform their patients, especially new patients sooner, rather than a week out from their appointment. Especially when the dental office was well aware that I was past my normal 6 month checkup and was trying to find a dentist who could schedule me as soon as possible. This is where the customer service got worse. Keep in mind, this was all through e-mail...no one ever picked up the phone to call and explain or offer an apology. Verbatim, Teonna responded, "I let you know the minute your insurance let us know. We cannot do things for free just because insurance doesn't cover procedures or X-rays needed." In all my years of customer service, I have never been taught to use phrases such as this. In no way did I ask for anything for free, but instead stated they should not force patients to pay for something that they are requiring and not insurance. A simple phone call to truly explain why the pano was required and an apology that this was not discussed prior to a week before my appointment would have sufficed. I do understand if this was something they truly needed at this specific time, however early communication and better customer us always the way to go. I guess I should've seen the red flags whenever they charged my husband for PPE at his first appointment after they opened during Covid. read more

If I could give a lower rating, I would. This practice has never been great but I kept coming back because of the awesome dental hygienist. The first issue was after giving them authorization to take a payment on my card for one amount, they charged me more a week later because they "didn't have the right amount before". I was irritated but came back. This time, after requesting an appointment online, someone called me. The date I requested wasn't available so I made an appointment for today. After altering my entire day & driving 40 mins... I get there & I'm told I have no appointment & could I reschedule. Furious doesn't do justice to how I feel. To add insult to injury, the receptionist said dryly...."I'm sorry", like that helps. Do yourself a favor...find another dentist. read more

Dr. Kim did a good job explaining what needed to be done. However, after everything was completed and I had paid well over $1000, I get another bill in the mail 5 months later stating my balance was 90 days over due. Not only did I receive this bill late, there was no description on the bill as to why I still owe them money. So I called their office to see what I had left to pay for. It took me over a week to get someone to pick up the phone. Finally, Stephanie answers and tells me that the balance is due to their inaccurate insurance estimate they gave me and that since she was on maternity leave she didn't mail out my bill until after she got back. No apology was given either. I can say that I'm very frustrated with the whole experience. I have never received a second bill from any of the other dentists I've been to. And the icing on the cake....maternity leave. So I guess it's ok to mail out bills 5 months late. I'll be looking for a new dentist. read more

Dr. Kim may be the best dentist I've ever had. I first went in for a standard cleaning and was immediately impressed by his clean and modern offices. When I struggled with the molding trays triggering my gag reflex, he patiently photo-scanned each tooth so I wouldn't have to endure the trays any longer. I've used his office for teeth cleaning, a night guard for grinding and invisalign. His office is great and my mouth is much better shape because of him. His staff is very friendly and I've never had to wait longer than 5 minutes to be seen. I wish I could say all of these things about my other doctors. Highly recommended. read more

I especially appreciate that cleaning doesnt crank on your teeth so much as many others I have experienced. While the dental hygienist Nikki is exceedingly professional and friendly, Dr. Kim's bedside manner leaves much to be desired. I have been in twice over the last several months for different steps in a tooth extraction/crown implementation, and I have had a very unpleasant experience both times. At different stages during these visits, which required me to keep my mouth open for long periods of time and bite down on a bite block, I experienced a bad gag reflex (totally normal for some people and an expected part of dental work). Each time I had the reflex or had to pause/momentarily close my mouth, Dr. Kim rolled his eyes and made it clear that he was very irritated at the interruption in his work. If I'm paying for a service, I don't expect to be made to feel bad for something completely out of my control. I even apologized at one point when I had to stop but there was again a total lack of empathy. The feeling I got was that I was taking up valuable time and the dentist couldn't wait to get me out of there. He was also short with the dental hygienist, who is exceptional and one of the main reasons I have stayed at this location. After I get my permanent crown put in next week I will definitely be on the look out for a new dentist. read more

Dr. Kim was really nice and helpful. I have to have a root canal done tomorrow, but have no insurance. Dr. Kim himself, took the time to explain everything to me and talk me through everything that needed to be done. He called around to get financing for me, because I don't have insurance. Then he called me back and set the appointment himself. I have never had a dentist that seemed to care so much about his patients and tried to work out the best deal possible for them. My family and I have been going to the same dentist for over 30 years. I needed some work done on my teeth that my dentist did not do. So I had to do a lot of looking around and reading reviews and now I see why this office had lots of good reviews. I have now been to Modern Dental two different times and Dr. Kim and all of the staff here are awesome. I have had a lot of dental work over the years but I have never left a dentist office with a new crown on the same visit. Your office has all of the latest technology that makes the office visits shorter and you leave with great results. Ok I can never leave Dallas now. I finally found a good dentist and a good hygenist. The office is clean they are quick and effecient. It might be the best cleaning I have had in 5 years. They were good at checking in with me to see how I was doing. I love that they make the crowns and fillings in house. It is so much easier than waiting on your crown to come in. They can do a crown in as little as 2 hours if all goes well. read more

Modern Dental is awesome. Everything is very clean and organized. Julie is a super awesome hygienist. Everything felt at home, and one of the best dental experiences. BE AWARE. Do NOT let the cleanliness and friendly staff fool you. I went several times and only went back because of dental hygienist and assistants explaining things and doing cleanings good etc. I noticed some red flags with Dr Kim but made the mistake of going back to get a couple fillings done. Horrible numbing experience. When the numbing went away I noticed right away that my tooth was chipped. Now that I'm writing this the next day. It seems that they both are. Saw Dr next day and states it's normal and would have to pay to get it redone if that's what I wanted. What a joke. I'm glad I did not get root canal done here. Do not recommend and will let family and friends know that see him. read more

I have been coming here for several years now and will not go anywhere else. I feel like my teeth are well taken care of and they take my insurance! I recently used my groupon to get a cleaning at Modern Dental. While there, Dr. Kim took a look at one of my teeth that I was concerned about since the filling had fallen out over a year before. The tooth wasn't giving me problems, but I just wanted to see what needed to be done. He took a quick look at the x-ray and immediately said that I would need a root canal and should feel lucky that I had not experienced any pain already. I then received an estimate from Stephanie for the procedure. I thought it was a little excessive (since I don't have insurance) so I went to another dentist that was recommended to get a second opinion and second price. The new dentist immediately took his own x-ray (because the one from Modern Dental was blurry) and explained that it was not necessary to do a root canal. He would simply just pull the remaining old filling and and take out the little bit of decay below, and then refill with a new filling. So my concern is that Dr. Kim got a little ahead of himself and wanted to do an unnecessary procedure. A root canal (to me) should be the last resort. I would like to be able to save my teeth as much as possible and keep from doing any unnecessary work. The second opinion saved me $2,000!!!!! and my tooth looks great and feels fine. I previously put in a great review for Modern Dental on their survey, but now that I have experienced this, I will definitely warn other patrons about this experience. It almost seems like Dr. Kim was trying to recoup his money from the groupon. The receptionist (Stephanie) was very friendly and helpful, and the cleaning went great, however I wouldn't recommend any other procedure at this clinic :( - unless you have insurance. Thank goodness I got another opinion or I would have been out $2000 AND my tooth! read more

Modern Dental recommend unnecessary treatment just to make money. Be aware. Additionally, I ended up paying almost double the amount they estimated for a treatment simply because they failed to properly check my insurance coverage. They made the mistake but still made pay for the full amount. read more
