My husband and I had some time to kill in the area and felt like oysters. We decided to check out Modern Oysterbar Chophouse. The sign outside now says Modern Corner Grill, I got worried for a second thinking maybe they didn't have oysters anymore...glad I was wrong! Just a name change I guess??? We sat at the bar for oysters, cheese board, and a bottle of wine! Loved their wine glasses. Also loved the bread they served with the cheese board. It was so good we ordered more. The bartender was friendly, service was great. We didn't realize the restaurant is so big inside or that its family owned. We will be back for sure!
We wanted a lite dinner. We were so happy to find this gem. The food is fresh, delicious and flavorful. The service was so genuine and sincere. We were visited at the table just often enough. We can't wait to dine here again but next time we will come ready for a full dining feast. We loved the warm decor and the music was perfect. We ordered the cheese and charcuterie appetizer. It had 3 types of cheese, two types of cured meat, olive's, jam, Marcona almonds, pickles, roasted garlic and more. Accompanied with delicious toasted bread. We also had the shrimp scampi that was in a wonderful sauce with lovely shrimp basking in my dish. The side dish of a parm and greiere cheese bread was devine. We had to try the apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.... And we loved it. Even the coffee tasted special. Yummy yummy Fabulous dining experience and evening! Thank you Modern Corner Grill. Aldi was a wonderful server and true gentleman
Friday night visit during Arizona Restaurant Week. We had reservations and were seated right away. The service was really good. I liked the decor and design of the restaurant. The food was pretty good as well. The chicken noodle soup's noodles were thicker than I like but overall the soup wasn't bad. The house style mussels and house burger were our entrees. I would recommend both dishes. I'd return to this restaurant to try other things on the menu.
Modern Oysterbar Chophouse Tried this restaurant for Valentine's Day, said all they had on Open Table was in the bar @ 5:15 pm, didn't expect to sit on the bar, little disappointed that we at least didn't have a table in the bar. Service at the bar was fantastic, but was not wanting to sit at the bar on Valentine's Day Dinner. Lobster and Corn Chowder roasted corn, yukon potatoes, cream, mire-poix, bacon and herbs was good with a big chunk of lobster. Would probably order again. Prime Bone in Ribeye 18 oz was a good size thinner cut. Meat, a little on the tougher side plus a baked potato, for $80 was expecting a better cut to be quite honest. Center Cut Fillet 8oz was probably a better cut than the ribeye, smaller but pretty tasty, also came with a baked potato. Brussel Spouts, personally I am not a Brussel Spouts person but was prepared well, my wife is a big Brussel Spouts person and she enjoyed it Asparagus was generous and prepared well, i prefer not to have soggy asparagus and this was done well. So much competition with Chophouses all over, I hope this establishment makes it. I am not the biggest oyster person so I could not give a good rating
Stopped in here Thursday night after work and had an excellent experience at the bar. Right away we were greeting by Alec (and another bartender that didn't give his name). We shared wonderful food including the oysters, mussels, crab cakes and salted caramel crème brûlée. All of which were wonderful. I think I would've liked the crab cakes without so much corn- but that's a small detail. The beer selection was only by bottle/can- but they had good beer that we enjoyed. The espresso martini was also lovely after dinner. The restrooms were clean and stocked. I enjoyed very much the hospitality from the bar, food and ambiance. We will be regulars here!
Yelp SPAM rating Service - 5/10 Price - 4/10 Ambiance- 6/10 Meal - 5/10 Arrived early for our reservation, but the staff was very accommodating and seated us right away. A little too cold in the restaurant for us and wished we would have brought a jacket to wear. Maybe in the dead of summer it would have been nice, but in February nah. Service was great in the beginning, but then slacked off later in the evening. Slow to get drinks, water refills, dessert and the bill, but that was more than likely due to more diners arriving. Steak was overcooked and over priced for what you got. Brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly, but were way too sweet for us and lost their charred exterior due to the sauce they were served with. Au gratin potatoes were cooked perfectly and had a good serving of cheese on top, just wish the cheese was mixed in more with the potatoes. We split a chopped salad and raved about the dressing it was served with. The peanut butter / fudge pie was absolutely delicious and ended the night on a high note. Glad we had an opportunity to try this restaurant, but doubt we'll be back in the future because I didn't feel as if the price was worth the experience.
The food, the service, and the ambiance are all deserving of a 5 star review. The oysters were the best I have ordered in Arizona, the espresso martini was well crafted, and their crab cakes were more crab than "cake." Their food was so appetizing when it hit the table- that this millennial entirely forgot to take the picture for the review. It has been awhile since I was this impressed by the quality, and I know I will be back to Modern Oyster soon. Our server tonight was Aldi, and you will be fortunate if you are in his section. He was humorous as well as attentive, and added to the our great dining experience!
I stopped in for happy hour and was hoping for a social vibe and appetizer tour but stopped at a half dozen raw oysters. They oysters were great and I loved the accompanying sauces and horseradish. That said, I wasn't particularly excited by the rest of the menu or other happy hour options. The general price points are quite high, and the happy hour options felt limited. The bar atmosphere was quiet, mostly a quiet setting with a few older couples enjoying their conversations. That said, the service was lovely, and I can see this being a nice spot for a special or romantic night out. Unfortunately not a place I'd frequent regularly but I can see some loving it.
I came here with a friend, mostly just to enjoy oysters and they did not disappoint! I ordered a dozen, all different because they had so much variety and you could really taste the difference in each one, I loved them. I also ordered a lobster Mac n cheese and crab cakes. The crab cakes had a few bones in it and honestly didn't taste that great. The lobster Mac n cheese was kind of disappointing too. Most of the lobster was over cooked and it wasn't enough seasoning. I would come back though because of the ambiance and service and probably just oysters next time.
I failed to post my review last week, better late than never! I came with family for restaurant week. My group was pretty demanding (I'm sorry!) but Steve, our server, absolutely rose to the occasion! I was so impressed with his wit and professionalism. Other staff also treated us very well! The food was AMAZING. We are literally still talking about it a week later. We can't wait to come back! There are so many things on the regular menu I am dying to experience. Hopefully Steve is working as well!
I love this restaurant. It's family owned and we have enjoyed this restaurant many times. The oysters are always very fresh. Their dirty Martinis are perfect. Every entree we have had has been delicious. But what really stands out and is memorable is the Ossobucco. So delicious! Again we love this hidden jewel!
Absolutely adore this place! We decided to try their renowned happy hour, and it was an absolute delight. The menu and drink list for the happy hour are simply amazing. Modern has truly risen to become the new Dominic's, with its rustic wooden interior reminiscent of an old mafia movie. The warm ambiance invites you to indulge in a steak dinner or savor a glass of wine. Our waiter, with his warm smile and Aussie accent, made the experience even more enjoyable. He expertly explained the dishes being served and couldn't resist cracking a smile between dinner services. The happy hour menu boasts an incredible selection of crab cakes, muscles, or a simple Caesar salad. But let's not forget their signature martinis, which are simply fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and will definitely be returning. read more

Ambiance is okay. Service was great - if anything, maybe a few too many check-in stops at the table. It was hard to keep a flow of conversation going. Where things really took a turn was the food. I was so hoping I found a new staple in our walkable restaurants list but the food was mostly disappointing. We liked our fairly standard French onion soup and Caesar salad. The shrimp cocktail were not good at all. Shrimp was tough and mealy. They marinate them with a bunch of herbs. Maybe that caused the unpleasant texture? On top of that, I did not like the herbs used in the marinade. Good shrimp cocktail stands on its own! I should also add that these were $7/each. A week later I had the most amazing shrimp cocktail - tender and sweet and almost double the size for $4/each. I don't mind paying $7. I've paid $13 each for good shrimp cocktail. Just a lot of money to spend on something so disappointing. Our sea bass was also tough. Flavor was okay. The piece was fairly thin - possibly why it was overcooked? For those who love sea bass, I suggest checking it out at SumoMaya or Dominick's. Can't be beat! Sadly, I don't think we'll be back. Too many other excellent options nearby. read more
What a place! Celebrating a friend's birthday at Modern Oysterbar Chophouse which quickly became a new favorite spot. The atmosphere is fantastic with great charm. The food is completely prepared in-house has that depth flavor that excites your palate! My taste buds were appreciating every bite! Please see the photos of the delicious fair we grazed upon. My boyfriend and I went for date night on a Saturday. He originally made reservations for the dining room and when we go there decided to sit at the bar. Bartenders greeted us right away and provided us menus and water. We were able to take advantage of the last 10 minutes of happy hour. Certain wines are $15/half crafe-enough for 2 glasses. We started with blue oysters which were good. Our entrees were salmon with polenta and shrimp pasta with lemon pepper sauce. The salmon was flaky and moist. The shrimp on the pasta were large. (Would recommend both) For desert we split the caramel martini and strawberry crème brûlée. Mari I was fabulous. The crème brûlée has a strawberry jelly in the bottom we didn't care for. This is a place I will be coming back to again. read more

Food was great! Came here for AZ Restaurant and was very impressed. We started with the corn chowder and the texture was perfection, delicious with a touch of bacon. My friend had the lobster Louie Salad and it had a lot of lobster on it with a nice, light vinaigrette dressing. I had the fish and chips and it was the best one I've had in a long time! It had Chilean sea bass, the batter was not heavy yet crunchy! The fries were homemade and nicely browned. The desserts were good, loved the key lime pie! Service was excellent and totally impressive, from the moment we arrived and our server was very friendly and attentive. The place is nicely decorated with comfortable and cozy booths. This is a definite must try! Plenty of ample parking! read more
Coming from Vegas, I've been to my share of steak and seafood restaurants. This one really surprised me! From our great waiter, to the owner coming by every now and then to check on us- the service was fabulous. The ambiance was beautiful and dimly lit for a perfect date night! The food - perfect! Oysters were fresh and the lobster salad was very filling and flavorful! My boyfriend is steak snob and LOVED his bone in rib eye. I tried it as well and it was cooked perfectly! read more

AWESOME PLACE! Service was amazing and food delicious!! Steven was our server who provided superb service! Food was cooked to our liking AND with more flavor than we expected! Oysters ALL around was fresh and very tasteful! Rib eye didn't last long lol. We all enjoyed the Mac and cheese which was delicious! The sandwich and salad combo was just right for me. Would FOR SURE eat again when on this side! read more

This could very well be my "Cheers" but don't hold me to it because I don't have that much downtime lol. I really love this place it is inviting, it has a decent happy hour menu and the food is soooo good. I have only been in the bar area and both bar tenders were extremely friendly and helpful. It had a rustic ambiance that is warm and inviting. This is where the old Charlestons used to be near Fed Ex at Scottsdale and Frank Lloyd Wright/Bell. If you get a chance stop in for a drink I assure you, you will stay for dinner. So far I have had the oysters, a salad with lobster, sea bass, ahi tuna, caesar and the bomb.com lobster mashed potatoes. Prepare your appetite this food will blow your mind! read more

Is there any type of dress code for this restaurant?
No dress code enforced. I would say it's a classy-er venue that is worth dressing up for; but you can wear casual clothes as well. You may feel a bit out of place walking in with flip flop sandals though.
Does Modern Oysterbar have a pet friendly patio?
They have outdoor seating but I didn't see any dogs.
