My wife and I have been going here for a while and keep going back for more. Dr. Nick is one of the nicest people I've met and he is a true professional. He genuinely cares about you and works at trying to resolve any issue you need fixing. I've been trying to work on pain management due to numerous surgeries without the use of medications so acupuncture is my go to. Dr. Nick has been a godsend for me and my wife. The cost is fair and worth every penny The staff is cheerful and helpful as well. The chairs have both massage and heat with adjustable reclining. My only problem is that the TV screens show locations around the world that I would love to go to. The Hawaiian scenes are my absolute favorites. This was my first time going to a community acupuncture... although you are "technically" in a room with other patients, there are dividers between treatment chairs giving a bit more privacy. The chairs themselves are equipped with massage, heat, and recline functions which are very nice and comfortable! Every single time I take an "Acu-nap" waking so refreshed after! Love it!! I had an acupuncture session today. My experience was not good. The receptionist was nice. But the doctor or acupuncturist was cold and I felt like he was in a rush? Not sure why because most of the chairs were empty! The duration of my session was like 15 minutes . I didn't say anything when I left because I wanted to make sure that a 15min session wasn't part of the 3 session for $59 special that I paid for -and my treatment was so bad I just wanted to get out of there!- When I got home I read through the website and it clearly states that each session last 30-45mins. The place was calm and relaxing but the guy putting needles in me was NOT! Worst bedside manner ever!!! I'm getting my money back!!! I'd rather travel 2hr to Sacramento CA and pay $20 For an hour session at a community acupuncture center where they care about you ! In response to your comment : I had airpods in my ears and told both the acupuncturist and the asst. I did NOT have them on! I had NO problem communicating with them! Nice relaxing facility. Very clean and totally Zen. Once you enter the acupuncture room, you are surrounded in a tranquil environment, where you can sit back and relax in the massage chair. After consulting with the Acupuncturist, he or she will then work on your trouble spot. It really does not hurt. Nicholas who I saw was very honest and told me what the acupuncture could do and what ailments it could not help me with. He explained the entire procedure and all the equipment they use are new and sterile. It takes a couple of sessions before you may notice a major difference. All the employees are very kind and they give you some relaxing tea after your appointment is over. I have gone to both private practice acupuncture as well as community acupuncture in the past. Through Yelp, I found this place that seemed more like a community accupuncture practice and I thought I'd give it a try. If you're unfamiliar, community acupuncture is typically in a large room with several recliners all around and many (usually up to 8 or so) people are being treated at the same time. There are some downsides in that if you're not speaking in very hushed tones, the people next to you can hear what you are discussing with the practitioner. On the plus side, you are in a room with a bunch of very relaxed people all working toward the same goal of getting healthier and less stressed - so that's nice. With Modern Acupuncture, you kind of have the best of both worlds. Although you are "technically" in a room with other patients, there are dividers between treatment chairs giving a bit more privacy. The chairs themselves are equipped with massage, heat, and recline functions which are very nice- and the chairs are leather which is great from a cleanliness perspective. When I was there today, for example, I saw one of the practitioners wiping down the chairs between use. I've only seen Dr. Annie so far but she's been great. She is very thorough in going through the intake form and getting an idea of exactly what your issues are and how best to approach. However, all practitioners here follow the same treatment protocol, so no matter who you see, they'll approach you the same way. Pricing is way lower than you'd pay for private practice but more than most community acupuncture places I've seen. If you like their approach, the incentive is there from a cost-break perspective to get a "membership" so definitely look into that. read more

This was the first time that I'd had acupuncture. I use chiropractic and CBD oil to assist with some of my health issues and thought that this would be interesting to try. My husband has had it a few times over the past 15 years. He came to Modern Acupuncture (South Meadows) for the first time last month with a promotion they were running on Facebook. That's what brought me to them too! When I arrived, Joanne at the front desk was warm and welcoming. I was immediately at ease by her personality. Currently, there is only one physician, Dr. Nicholas, full time and another who is there on Friday. Dr. Nicholas has been practicing for 14 years. He went to med school in San Diego, and worked in Vegas and Portland prior to coming to Reno. Once I was in the Zen Den, I did have to wait a few minutes before Dr. Nicholas was able to greet me, but that gave me time to acclimate to the area and begin to relax. I was able to see other's needles removed and see that all of them were put into a red sharps bottle, then I watched Dr. Nicholas wash his hands before coming over to me. Dr. Nicholas took the time to talk to me about my main concerns. Prior to beginning the treatment, he ensured that all of my questions were answered and that I was ready to begin. Once I confirmed that I was ready, I reclined in my chair and the Dr. cleaned the insertion points and inserted needles in my scalp, right ear, forehead, both wrists, both calves, and left foot. I only felt one that seemed be close to a nerve, it was in my foot above my 4th and 5th toes. I felt it upon insertion and removal and it tingled the nerve. Otherwise, there were a few that pinched when he inserted them but I didn't feel the majority. It was very relaxing. They have these amazing chairs that recline to a zero gravity position and I actually fell asleep. There are 10 chairs that are separated by curtains, a basket to put your shoes and other personal belongings next to the chair, and each chair area has its own light that is turned off when it's time to relax. I believe the chairs massage and and have heat, but I didn't want either. I was really relaxed after the session was over and ended up napping late yesterday afternoon. I asked Dr. Nicholas to focus on my increased anxiety, stress and insomnia. I figure it will take several sessions for the therapeutic process to take its full effect (just like chiropractic or CBD). Overall, I enjoyed my experience and plan to return. read more

I've got to be honest. When I received the certificate as a gift I was not looking forward to acupuncture. I've had neck issues for some time and going to my personal doctor I have had many injections and procedures on my neck (the last one was killing the nerve endings) and I was tired of needles. But I went hesitantly because I just wanted to get it out of the way and say I used the certificate. I had expected to lay on a table and have some needles jabbed into me and be on my way. When I walked into the business I was greeted by a young lady who was very pleasant and easy to talk to. (I'm sure I'm going to spell their names wrong so I apologize in advance). Noelle talked to me about what to expect, offered some tea and held a great conversation until it was time for my turn. I was enjoying our conversation that I didn't want to leave. When that big door opened it was nothing that I had experienced before. The soft music, the big screen TV's that were showing coastal scenes and the aroma was great. I sat in a comfortable chair and sat back and just chilled for a while not wanting this part to end now. Jo came up to me and we talked (I was expecting a high pressure sales pitch because I was a willing captive at this point), but that wasn't the case. She asked me what I was wanting out of acupuncture and and we chatted for a short time. Dr Nick came over and again some nice chit chat and after I let him know what was going on with my neck he started with the part I was not looking forward to. The needles. But to my surprise I didn't feel anything and then he was done. I was left alone in my comfortable chair and watched the chill videos on tv and drifted off. I hadn't been that relaxed in quite some time I could've stayed there all day. After my time was up Jo came over and pulled out the needles and I was met at the front desk by a smiling Noelle again. She gave me a warm cup of tea and we discussed a treatment plan with no pressure (I hate high pressure sales). I left feeling great and with the impression that at Modern Acupuncture they really care about your well being and not the cash. I am looking forward to many more appts. Kept forgetting to do this Review. Visited a year and half ago. This is what a community style clinic should be like. Most community clinic look like a community clinic, cheap chairs, with a sheet over it, Aways looks cheap and shabby. But this place is definitely a 5 star establishment . After 6 month of foot pain with no real relief, I turned to Acupuncture. Having never tried it before I was a bit skeptical. This office is wonderful, the staff helpful and made me feel at ease. The patient coodinator/office manager, Joanne, is unprofessional, rude, bends the truth and doesn't take constructive criticism very well at all. Don't get to their office at your exact appointment time because your already late or as she said "into your appointment time" according to their policy. I was going to give them a second chance for our business, however, after the attitude Joanne displayed toward and my husband and I, it is not worth our time or money to be treated so poorly. It really works! I've had plantar fasciitis for awhile and when it flares up it's extremely painful and I can hardly walk. After 1 session almost all of the pain is gone! Dr. Nick is amazing! They are also very forgiving when I miss an appointment, even when it was right after my husband did... Dr. Nicolas is an amazingly caring and soothing practitioner. He remembers his patients concerns as well as tidbits from their life. He is gentle and patient with new people and takes care to explain the treatments in a way that is easy to understand and appropriate for each person. I have been getting acupuncture treatments from Dr. Nick for 3 months now and it has completely changed my life. I was suffering from severe chronic pain due to carpal tunnel; most days lifting 5 pounds was too much for me. I started to feel relief after my first treatment, and I haven't stopped going since. Dr. Nick has given me back my quality of life and I couldn't be more grateful for it. The entire staff- Joanne, the doctors assistant, and Tamera at the front desk- are absolutely wonderful. Dr Nick is by far the best acupuncturist I've ever seen! Any problems I'm having I just tell him and he fixes it for me. I'm currently working on my lower back pain and I've seen the most improvement with Dr. Nick. I'm glad that there are some bad reviews because that tells you that this company isn't buying their reviews. I once made the mistake of going to a business with perfect 5 stars and they did a terrible job and threaten to sue me if I didn't take down my honest review. I always look for bad reviews and read the both positive and bad reviews. I stay far away from perfect 5 start reviewed places because honestly you can't make everyone happy. Modern Acupuncture in Reno is one of the best places I have ever seen in this town. Dr.Nicholas is magical. I swear those acupuncture needles of his arrive on special delivery straight from heaven. I have been coming to Modern Acupuncture since September of 2019. It was a birthday present to myself in an attempt to get relief from frequent tension headaches and to help me sleep better. I'm all for a non-invasive approach and had never tried it so why not?! I couldn't be more pleased with my experiences. I purchased a package online and scheduled online my first few appointments. Dr. Nick was fabulous and took a lot of time with me. Although I wasn't nervous he joked with me to help me relax for my session. The room is so nice and relaxing and you can't help but feel better within minutes.
