I've now officially visited all three Modcup locations, and I love how each one has its own unique character. The main spot in Journal Square is particularly charming. It's so cute and cozy, making it the perfect place to actually sit and enjoy a cup. Their coffee definitely lives up to the hype; the house drip I had was robust and incredibly flavorful, easily some of the best in the area. I enjoyed it so much that I even grabbed a bag of beans to brew at home. It's clear why this place gets so much praise, as the quality is consistent across the board. Have been to both Jersey City locations, the one located at 25 Senate Place as well as the one on Palisade Avenue but Riverview park. Both shops are awesome, today I ordered the cold brew black. It is easily my favorite one in the area. The barista informed me that the cold brew is Colombian coffee, and is brewed for 24 hours. This place is much more spacious than the other location with inside seating including sofas and seats. The aroma of coffee once I walk in will keep me coming back. It seems customer service is not at their top of their list. These barista give $#!T faces and are unwelcoming. Once i came to the counter to order they dont bother to say hi and they dont walk you thru any add ons pricing on their products. I came here and orderd an ice latte with less ice. I looked at the price menu and there was nothing saying about add on pricing. When I received the product I was charged for extras: * 0.5 for less ice, are you serious?!?! * 0.25 for single use cup, who does this?!?! I politely asked for an explanation and that they should give heads up before moving forward and charge the customer. The barista didnt care, turned around, and completely ignored me. I was completely speechless! Other places would have been apologetic and would try to make it up for you, this place didnt even bother and ignored the customer as your business is quite insignificant Definitely not the place to come for coffee when you could take your money to another place. Great local chain, 4 locations from what I could tell. Very knowledgeable on coffee roasts with plenty to purchase including rarer roast vacuum sealed and imported. We got the seasonal cinnamon toast crunch latte not pictured but lined with Graham crackers on the rim of the cup. Sweetened with honey so very true to the core of a solid latte with focus on artistry. My latte is pictured with apple butter syrup. It really felt like fall in an apple orchard. The only only only thing I'll say is both of our lattes were not hot enough upon us being handed them immediately and drinking them. Just a tip, maybe let them know you like a very hot drink. Stepped into Modcup for a coffee run before heading over to a friends. They have Chai here! And they have Chai that X actually likes. He loved that it was nice a spicy and actually tasted like Chai. All too often, he gets a Chai latte and it tastes like nothing but milk with cinnamon sprinkled in. So kudos to Modcup! I had their Ice Drip, which was great as usual. 4.5* This place surprised me so much, in the best way possible! It's kind of off the beaten path a few blocks away from the Journal Square PATH station. The inside of the store is decorated SO beautifully, the ambiance is absolutely stunning. I ended up ordering a cold brew with whole milk & vanilla syrup. Their vanilla syrup is TRULY unique because I've *never* tasted anything like it before, really good coffee honestly! Staff are super friendly but it seems like they're training someone new. Our lattes took awhile, even though there weren't any orders. The lattes came out a bit messy--spilled milk onto the saucer and just a bit of a mess on top. But they weren't overly steamed and the milk was still sweet. read more

We passed by to get warm after a cold morning at the park around the corner. I've been meaning to come here to pick up beans as well. They're a gem hidden away off an industrial, now residential area near the art area and Little India. We got a coffee and tea and stayed indoors as there wasnt a lot of people. StAff member was fine; I'm not sure what's up with all the negative reviews. I do wish all modcups in Jersey City has more edibles. I guess they like to only have coffee leftover, and order very few pastries so they finish 1-2 hrs before closing. I'd come here again for the caffeine. Super cool coffee spot. If I lived closer, I'd definitely go more often. It doesn't get super packed in there so it'd probably be good for working/studying. We went in on Saturday, the first Saturday after their Wednesday soft opening to grab our usual morning cappuccinos. Wanted to grab some pastries but they were out since they didn't know how much to order for the first weekend. We walked from our home by St Peters University and so glad that they now have a location that is walkable from our home! While Downtown and the Heights were getting overrun with hip and nifty businesses, the JSQ/Five Corners/Marion area has languished like a neglected stepchild. Well, now there is a Modcup in the 07306 and it's pretty sweet. The Good: -It's beautiful inside. Everything is bold, bright, and elegant. -It's big. Compared to the Heights location, it's downright huge. -They roast their beans right in the back. -The coffee doesn't suck. Ordered the single origin drip and an almond milk cappuccino. Both were fantastic, particularly the cappuccino. The texture was creamy and the single origin was bold but smooth. Didn't try their pastry options but their focus is coffee so I'd stick to that. I will say, hospitality could be a little better (not unfriendly, but not overly enthusiastic either). I get that this is their roastery and that's what they focus on (meaning selling isn't the sole purpose or even focus of this location) but they don't ask if it's your first time or explain their options unless you probe.
