My mother went here forever. Then she developed dementia. I would take her here as this was one of the few ways she could feel some independence. I'd drop her off, give her my credit card, and make it clear to those inside to be patient with her. She got into a very minor argument with the owner over the bill because she got confused. She doesn't understand how much things cost today. I didn't even think it was a big deal. Tried to make a future appointment, and was told she is not welcome and hung up upon. This was one of the few regular joys of normality my mother had. The elderly with dementia and Alzheimer's disease face enough discrimination in the public sphere. I have to manage it every day. But the owner of this establishment is probably the worst offender. In Milford, many establishments have been extraordinarily patient and helpful when I have brought my mother into the public sphere. Out of all of them in Downtown Milford near the Green, the owner of this place is the only one to be a despicable person. So far as the quality of the hair cut, it's nothing special. I've gone to $150+ places in Fairfield/Westport, and sub $50 places in Milford, and for this old lady they all look the same to me. read more

Love Moda & Renee! I started going there after always admiring a friends hair and how well it was cut. She referred me to the owner, Renee, and I have NEVER been disappointed. I honestly don't know how anyone would or could give this place, or their stylists, a bad rating. Friendly (everyone, right down to the receptionist), clean, nice atmosphere and always a fantastic cut that gets many compliments. The only reason that I haven't gone lately is that I moved so far away (which is also why I'm in need of a cut, BADLY (I'm extremely picky when it comes to finding someone to cut my hair!)! read more

I highly recommend Moda!! It is a beautiful salon with the sweetest stylists! Tamara is amazing!! She did my hair for my wedding and it was PERFECT!! She truly cared and wanted to make sure my hair was exactly how I wanted it. She took the time to try different hair arrangements and made sure every piece was perfectly placed. She also showed her true dedication for her passion but my driving an hour to my location on the day of the wedding. Once again, Christina has worked her magic! I arrived for my color and was greeted with COVID precautions which made me feel safe - knowing that they were following all the regulations. I asked Christina to brighten my color up a bit - I wanted to go a bit bolder! She not only gave me a beautiful rich auburn red but also highlighted me with brilliant golden highlights. She even took the time to do my brows despite the fact that I threw her off schedule with my new color request. This is an amazing salon! It's clean, edgy, and a pleasure to visit. Christina! I don't know why Moda gets negative reviews here. I've been going here for a few years now because the price is 1/2 to 1/3 what I would pay at a salon in Fairfield, and yet they never mess up my hair -- it always looks consistent every time I visit. And once you've got the style and color you like, isn't that what you strive to find in a salon? A place to help you maintain it? I've had several stylists here, and all were excellent. They also offer you coffee or tea, and sometimes even cookies. You're always treated like you're a valued customer, and the atmosphere is really relaxing. I used to go to a salon in Fairfield (Hair), considered one of the best, and once I came out livid because they chopped my hair off when I said make the trim a DUSTING, and another time they nearly fried my hair. Yet a third time they inexplicably dyed it 5 shades darker than I asked for. I would routinely have up to 3 people working on my hair during one visit (someone to dye, someone to wash, someone to cut) and it made the experience really stressful because I had to tip ALL 3 people, and also explain over and over again the look I was trying to achieve. Moda is clean, staff is friendly and polite, prices are reasonable, and you will not get a "surprise" in the mirror after telling them what you want. You will also have the same stylist working on your hair throughout if you request it. I highly recommend this place. read more

I came in on 10/13 for a consult and then on 11/5 to get my hair done by Christina as discussed at the consultation. Unfortunately, I left the salon looking nowhere close to what I asked for or what was discussed. Per the photo I showed as an example, underneath was supposed to be a light, ashy color and the top of my hair was supposed to be dyed a darker brown. I now have 4 large sections of bleached hair, not blended, and the brown hair on top is my natural color. When I mentioned to Christina that I wanted the top darker as discussed, her response was that my hair was "dark enough". She also said she was going to cut a few inches off my hair, just the dead ends, and it ended up being closer to 6-7 inches which came out uneven and choppy. I am so upset and disappointed by how it turned out and I'm having a very hard time understanding the point of having a consultation before your appointment if you end up leaving with something different than what you asked for. Now I need to find somewhere else to go and pay more money to get it fixed because I certainly won't be going back here. If this was a color/style that she didn't know how to do then she should have made that known at my consultation. read more

I've been going to Moda for a couple of years now and I've found their service very good; always attentive and professional. It's very difficult to find a true unisex salon that is concerned with men's hairstyles, as well as women's. My stylist truly listens to my requests, and consistently offers creative ideas, which is hard to do with men's hairstyles. Some comments on here regarding the atmosphere at Moda I find unwarranted. I've never experienced "hours of techno-synth dance music", and always found the establishment to be clean. read more

I found it by chance after running into an old friend who's hair looked amazing and recommended Shannon Stevens at Moda. Shannon is sweet and professional. We have tried several different colors/cuts over the years and I have been pleased every time. I always get tons of compliments and have Shannon to thank. She makes my hair look FABULOUS!!!! I have been a going to Moda for quite a few years now and I love it! The stylists are all amazingly talented, professional, and up to date on the most recent styles, products, and techniques. Since that day, I have been a client of Renee's-she even did my hair for my wedding day and all kinds of occasions in between. Renee & her team always surpass my expectations when it comes to hair and makeup! I'm always greeted in a pleasant, professional, and timely fashion & offered something to drink while being pampered. The atmosphere is fun, it's always clean, reasonably priced, and I have never been upset with a haircut, hairstyle, or my makeup. I needed to get my hair styled somewhere close to home because it was the day of my bridal shower and logistically it wouldn't work to go to my usual stylist. I chose Moda and ended up brushing it all out and doing it myself in the minutes I had to spare before my party. I asked for big, loose curls. I received super tight, crunchy curls. The stylist decided that the day of my bridal shower (she knew this was the reason why I had the appointment) was a great time to criticize my hair: "You really need a haircut. Your ends are dead. You have split ends. When is the last time you had it done??" Really? This was a very important day for me and I wanted to feel beautiful. I did not. I left, feeling lousy and out a chunk of cash. My hair came out better after I restyled myself. Should have done it myself in the first place. Done with Moda. read more

After two visits and still not being happy with my hair I would like to leave no stars. First girl was extremely rude when I got off work early to return for a second time to have it fixed. She would not even listen to me as I tried to explain what I was looking for. She just laughed and told me what my hair was "suppose to look like." I decided I didn't want her touching my head again and ended up leaving to have it looked at down the street. 3 girls at the new salon understood what I was not happy with but because Kathy (the manager) was so great when I was at Moda, I decided to call and tell her about my experience and see if they wanted a chance to fix it and keep a very loyal and frequent customer. She was great to deal with and offered to have my hair fixed by a different stylist. I agreed even though I had to wait an entire week later to get in. I was hoping she pushed it out that long because she had a great stylist that could fix it or at least I wouldn't have to deal with the awkwardness of the other stylist being there. When I did finally get in the new stylist was very nice but the experience was awkward because the first stylist was there. I explained what I wanted to the new girl and she brought the owner over to take a look. The owner, I thought, understood what I wanted, until it was done and I had streaks of very dark low lights and platinum looking like a tiger (I asked for more contrast but not to look like a skunk.) Maybe I was spoiled at my Beverly Hills Salon :(. Nonetheless, She didn't apologize at all for the unprofessional way her stylist treated me and on top of that they made me pay for a blow dry?? How am I suppose to know how it looks until it is blow dried? So I paid for the blow dry and tipped the new stylist. I wasn't looking for a free color I was looking to get what I wanted. Wanted partial highlight and cut that's what I stated at first, but what I got is a yellow beige against my brunette hair. I didn't get my cut because the owner made me feel I was imposing on her. Then when I had my hair revealed the color was NOT at all what I wanted but with attitude I was told that's what I asked for. Manager was NOT accommodating at all.
