I had a really good experience visiting Mod Mama to check out the Uppababy strollers and car seats before committing to buy them. Ruth showed my husband and I all the attachments and how the devices worked. She was extremely kind even though she knew we were just looking. She helped up set up a registry with their store for the people in my life that prefer to shop in person, she even took my Babylist information and password and hooked up my mod mama registry with my online one, creating one less thing for me to have to do. I'll say this about Mod Mama, some employees are amazing- and others are not! We walked in there when we first found out we were pregnant to look at some baby gear and a wonderful younger staff member helped us out. I wish I got her name because she was incredibly helpful. She gave us a gift bag with some details about registry info, information on all the car seats & strollers, and just was able to manage the store all by herself dealing with multiple customers as they JUST opening one busy Saturday morning. Idr her name but she was amazing. Flash forward to just recently when we went in, now in our third trimester and wasn't even GREETED at the door by anyone. There were two employees working, one younger and one older woman with dark short brown/black hair. When we asked about the Nuna car seats, the older woman with the short black hair didn't even want to give us the time of day. We were looking for more information about it and she just told us that the Nuna car seat they have on display is the only Nuna car seat they can sell or something like that. She didn't come over and offer us a product demo or nothing. And the store was EMPTY. It was just me and my wife there. Instead, her and the younger employee was too busy trying to order Starbucks from next door. We did end up spending some time in the store checking out clothes & whatnot and did walk away with a $60 sleeper, but neither employees tried to help us in anyway shape or form and we were there for a good half hour. Granted, it was towards the end of the day, but this was a complete 180 from our previous experience here. I will say this, Mod Mama still tends to be the best spot in RI to grab baby gear & clothes but whoever doing the hiring needs to take a hard look at their employees because some of them can care less about the customers! Please take appropriate action! Being new parents is scary and having someone showcase & demo all the nice brands out there is sooooo nice to have locally. Came in at 6pm 3/8 to make a purchase on a nuna damixx and a nuna lite rx and not one single person came up to assist us. Stood in front of the register for 5 mins to not get assisted. Ill take a ride up to pottery barn or magic bean to get some help. read more

Where do I start? The customer service was some of the best I have received in years with a retail store! We walked in not knowing anything about baby products and walked out knowing exactly what we wanted. We were very upfront with them that we weren't buying that day but rather were looking to figure out what to put on our registry. My husband is 6'5" and I'm also tall so figuring out a baby carrier has been a struggle since we have zero baby stores where we live. They were more than accommodating and helpful in teaching us about the differences and letting us try them on. They went over the strollers and the car seats and the helpful functions with each kind. I wish we could take the staff and store home with us because it would make this whole first time parent thing a MILLION TIMES EASIER! We highly recommend them! Pretentious. Over priced. Poor customer service. We were not informed of the 20% restocking fee when going to make a return. I've worked retail and no it's not necessary to charge that restocking fee. At bare minimum you have to inform your customers before they purchase. Avoid store if at all possible. read more

Super disappointed with this place. My mom swears by it because they have such cute baby clothes and items. A bit pretentious? Sure but you are in Garden City and it's a boutique so that's expected. I didn't register there as they aren't really soup to nuts in their baby products but have been gifted items from there and for the most part, I have been pleased. I did return a gift as it was a duplicate and received a gift card in exchange. The next time I went to use it, was my first day out with my LO and I had gone in to get a bath towel as I realized one was just not going to cut it. There were a few different brands and I decided to go with one by the company Angel Dear as my daughter already had the pink and grey bunny towel and the others I didn't care for very much. I used the gift card (I think the towel was just under $40 - which I would NEVER pay for myself!) and just put the bag underneath the stroller and off I went. In the craziness otherwise known as having a newborn, I must have just thrown or the box and receipt and put the towel in the wash for next bath time. All was well; however, after two washes, following instructions clearly, I noticed the towel had started to fray at the good portion of it. This should not happen for the price paid and amount of time we have had it. I contacted the store to ask about simply exchanging for another and explained what had happened - assuming I would be greeted with a"no problem, bring it in so we can contact the vendor and let them know about the product". One would think...well, instead the girl on the other end essentially said nothing could be done as I didn't have my receipt and to contact the company "Angel Dear". Ummm okay...so I did...I googled the company got an email and proceeded to contact them asking if I could exchange this (terrible) product. Crickets. No response. So now, I am left with a crappy towel that's falling apart, neglect from the manufacturer of it (who I'm sure continues to send this crappy product to Mod Mama) and a store that clearly doesn't stand behind the "select" and brands that they carry OR customer service. Thanks. You can keep your $40 bath towels that can't last two washes. read more

I walked into mod mama after reading the reviews figured I could purchase something unique for my newborn baby girl. Some how some way I was over charged on my credit card. I approached the manager maybe owner Julie and she had stated they do NOT do refunds. This matter was NOT my fault as I was over charged by them. She proceeded to tell me I can either have a check or store credit... 2 weeks went by still have not received the check. I called the store 3 times only to tell me they were busy with customers EVERY time. My mother then called and sure enough she got the supervisor on the phone and then was hung up on. We drove to the business where "Julie" was confronted and denied writing the confirmation on paper about my refund. She signed it and wrote it. My mother face timed me and showed me her OF COURSE it was her, I had to remind her of the incident for her to recognize HER OWN SIGNATURE... go figure ... Long story short TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE my refund was NEVER MAILED OUT it took multiple calls and even a appearance to get my money back !! NOT EVEN A APOLOGY NOTHING SNOBBY EMPLOYEES. read more

For a first time mom, mod mama is a sanity saver. My husband and I both almost had panic attacks when we entered Babys R Us for the first time. We were handed a long list of things to register for, a scanner gun, and were sent on our way. Dozens of car seats & strollers to try, hundreds of different bottles without any guidance, and we even got stuck trying on baby carriers. True story. So I emailed mod mama, and asked if they would be able to give me some guidance. I needed to know exactly what a first time mom needed, what I could do without, and what brands were tried and true. They responded immediately, and set up an appointment to meet with me. The parking was a bit tricky because it is down in the jewelry/knowledge district in Providence, but I was able to find a nearby metered space in less than a minute. (They are moving to Garden City in April 2013 - so parking should no longer be a problem.) I spent two hours in the store creating a personal registry. They explained what items are must have, best for safety, and also best for apartment living. Sometimes they only offer one particular item, for example, with their infant car seats. They do not have dozens of brands to choose from. Just one - the Mico Cosi. Why? Because it is the best. Its incredibly safe, light, and easy to use. I had done my own research before my appointment, and came to the same car seat choice. Many of their items are a bit on the pricey side, but it is generally because they are tried and true brands. I went online after our appointment and looked at reviews online of all of the products they recommended. Sure enough, they were all stellar and top of their classes. If you are a mom or a mom to be, and are looking for great opinions, you should most certainly head to mod mama. The customer service is out of this world, and you will leave feeling empowered (versus overwhelmed.) Why scour the internet for hours looking for the cutest or most highly reviewed items when you can find everything in one quaint, but well- organized store? Now that I'm a mom myself, I absolutely MUST update my review of Mod Mama! When it came time to register and select all things baby-related, my husband and I came to one place and one place only: Mod Mama. There was never even any discussion; we knew that their experience, advice and selections would be everything we'd ever need to get set up and prepared for our little girl, and we were 100% correct. The registry process was so easy and stress-free -- we walked around the store with Brianna, going from section to section to choose what we needed, ask any questions and get all the info to select what was best for us, our lifestyle and our baby-to-be. While the registry website isn't super easy to use, it was available within a few days and seeing all of our choices together in one place was kind of awesome. Fast forward to the arrival of my little lady, and Mod Mama is even MORE enjoyable for me. I love brining my daughter here to pick up necessities (like a travel bag for our wicked expensive stroller that acts as insurance -- nice!), and then finding something so completely adorable we can't leave without it. The women who work here are all so kind, helpful, friendly and caring -- it really makes the experience all the more enjoyable and precious. Because I've known the ladies who own and make Mod Mama run since long before I was pregnant, when I told them them news they were genuinely thrilled and excited for me, not to mention supportive. They're like a wonderful, nurturing source of information, joy and support for mamas, and I simply cannot do without them. I want to buy everything there for my baby girl! I absolutely enjoy shopping at this store because it is organized, non-overwhelming, clean and chic. All of their products are thoughtfully displayed. They have everything you need for the perfect gift. Being a first-time mom, going to babies r us is a nightmare and is probably one of the most challenging tasks I have to do in my life. Coming to this store is night and day, it gives me peace and the staff is SO friendly and welcoming who makes you feel loved and cared for. When other moms come into the store with their babies, it's like the mom-community is there and everyone cheered and congratulated me as a new mom. I walked out the store feeling so encouraged, telling myself - I can do this!! Their products are high-end but there to last. Realistically, I won't be able to buy everything there for my baby, but I surely know where to go if I need to buy a gift. My favorite product: Laundry tote bag. It can stand up straight and it's the cutest laundry tote I have ever seen. When the kid gets older, it can become a storage bag for toys. A little update for my opinion of Mod Mama. I'm keeping it at 2 stars because that's still how I feel but I want to commend the owner on her professional response to my review. In a time when business owners frequently jump to the defense but end up offending, it was nice to receive a mature, realistic response. Not all businesses can please all types of customers. That's just facts but it's OK. Their selection is definitely geared toward practicality. The products are nicer looking and may be better designed than comparable items at a big box store but if you're looking for an heirloom, it doesn't seem that's what they are going for here. So while I'm still recovering from the trauma of my initial Mod Mama experience, if you take the gist of most of their reviews, I think you'll find that Mod Mama is worth a shot if you're in need of baby gear. read more

I popped in to mod mama to get a baby shower gift - or, I should say, I drove to where mod mama's is and then drove in circles around the building until I finally illegally parked in another business's spot. Super hard to find a place to park and it's unclear where and when the rest of the lot behind the business is ok. The store itself is cute but a bit overwhelming for people who don't spend time around kids. The women who work there are friendly and helpful, and the gift wrap option is nice as well. Everything seems really expensive, so it's a good place for an occasional gift but I imagine that only the 1% can shop here regularly. read more

I just don't get it. Maybe I'm missing something. It's not that I don't like the store I just don't get it. There is nothing I find worth the price tag. The toys are not "mod" actually they remind me of throw backs. The accessories such as eating supplies, bibs etc are "mod" but unattractive and again, over priced. The staff isn't really all that friendly or helpful. God forbid they have one potential buying customer and they ignore the others walking in. Just visited Mod Mama today for the first time. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or bad thing that I have discovered this store...I'm in love! My husband and I popped in while shopping at Garden City; just two steps in and my husband said "uh oh" :) he knows me so well. They have a great selection of beautiful baby clothes... among all the latest gadgets and gizmos. The store has lots without being overwhelming... it was such a pleasant stroll through. The sales woman that I spoke with regarding a question was super helpful and had all the answers to my questions. When I came on to review this store (because I was so happy), I saw a 2 star review from Jaclyn P.. I thought it was ironic... upon leaving Mod Mama my husband said to me "I liked that store, they weren't pushy which you could totally see being the case in a store like that". I agreed, we were welcomed into the store upon arriving and asked if there was anything in particular that we were looking for, when we replied that we were just looking around we were left alone until I asked for some help. So I hope that others are not swayed by her experience, judging from the stores response and our experience I would say the issue has been rectified. I must say that I agree with Jaclyn P. in that most items are not heirloom quality... that being said the name of the store is Mod Mama... I wouldn't expect classically elegant baby items in a store with such a name. First things first, I love this boutique and I adore the concept in general (High-end, high quality baby goods with well informed courteous, staff). I also love shopping at Garden City, but the parking situation does leave much to be desired. Mod Mama is located in the cluster of smaller stores to the left of the new Pottery Barn. However, if you're visiting on the weekend it is probably best to park in the large empty lots near Kohoes or the old Circuit City and walk over. My friend dropped me off outside the door and proceeded to drive around the parking lot for the duration of my time shopping. The boutique itself is quaint but adorable, certainly not as overwhelming as "Babies R' Us." Last week, I came across the Providence review of the Day for Mod Mama (literally a day or two before receiving a baby shower invitation). I immediately knew I would be shopping here for a gift. My experience was certainly more enjoyable than the typical "grab a registry list and get sent on your way" baby shower shopping I have grown accustomed to. There was a slight wait at the cash register but I didn't mind, I ended up listening to the soothing lullaby renditions of modern songs playing in the background (U2 and Taylor Swift, NEAT)! I actually ended up making an additional purchase of the CD as part of my gift. I mentioned to the woman behind the counter that I had discovered her business via Yelp, she smiled and her face lit up a bit, Mod Mama is definitely Yelp approved! read more

I've popped in here a few times and It's a neat store. The inside is fairly small, but well arranged, with a central display and organized areas for girls' clothes, boys' clothes, things for mama, and toys interspersed. Every time I've been in, the staff has been pleasant and chatty, but not overbearing. Like the previous reviewer said, this isn't a Big Box baby store. You won't find Graco or Fisher Price toys here; it's geared towards higher end products, which makes sense for its East Side location. What I particularly like is that it has more than a few small label, unique items, as well as quite a few organic items, and several of the coveted Sophie giraffes. They also carry Trumpette's Howdy the Cow, a slightly less soulless version of Rhody the Horse. So, why three stars? It's a bit small and bringing my grabby child in here makes me nervous (not in anyway because of the staff, though). They also do not carry any cloth diapering supplies. A lot of mamas I know who would shop here also cloth diaper. I understand space is a premium and there are far too many different types of diapers, but I'd at least except wet bags or swim diapers. All in all, it's a good boutique, especially if you're looking for something a bit different. read more

I did FaceTime with a wonderful employee who was patient and explained everything I needed to know without actually being in the store. Their products are pricey but worth it. There are less expensive pieces of equipment but they do not work as well and they do not hold up as well as some of the cheaper pieces you can find elsewhere. I highly recommend mod mama. read more

After a disappointing holiday shopping experience at another Wayland Square shop, I stopped in Mod Mama figuring, well, I have money to spend and maybe I can get presents here instead. Success! Mod Mama has a wide array of products for kids - strollers, clothing, toys, books. Some things are a bit pricey for me, but they had gifts that suited my needs. Two women helped me tonight, and I was grateful for their guidance and, frankly, to have pleasant, educated staff. I ended up spending more than I intended, but it was worth spending a bit more money to support a local store than to go to a big corporate store. Many thanks to the lovely ladies tonight who helped me out - I think my nephews and niece to be will love the little gifts I purchased (or at least, my siblings will appreciate it them!). read more

Just popped in for Yelp Merry Merry Marketplace ! So having nieces and nephews this is the perfect place to shop. They carried the Melissa and Doug line and many other unique items which I am a huge fan of Love Love. They carried the literally the softest line of stuffed animals "Jellycat" I have felt in my life! This was my first time stopping in for a first birthday gift and I will be back. Not having children I appreciate going to a store that is knowledgeable and able to provide recommendations that are unique. The woman working was extremely friendly and oh so helpful, a daunting task was made oh so easy. The location is super convenient, parking is a breeze. There are always spots in the back lot by applebees if anyone ever has trouble finding parking. The shop is smaller however it does not feel crowded, it is very well laid out and very bright. The product selection is adorable and very unique. Yes, you will pay more than at the big box stores but the quality is much nicer. I'm someone that believes you get what you pay for and I also believe in supporting local small business whenever possible. I am thrilled with their new location and look forward to shopping there for gifts from now on! read more

So relieved to learn that my favorite childrens boutique has not gone out of business, instead they have moved to a much larger location! I love the new store at Davol Square! Customer service never disappoints. I have been shopping here for awhile now and I love to see all the different and unique items they have to offer. You won't find their clothing or gifts at any other store or mall. UNIQUE and so much to choose from, especially in the new and much larger location! My nieces love the different outfits I get for the girls and they are not only practical but comfortable ! I'm sorry that one of the reviews felt that their experience with returns was not acceptable. Their policy is very clear. 30 days! I have never had any trouble with returns. I buy gifts for out of state family and I have had to return outfits that did not fit. I have never had a problem with returns and the girls in the store are so helpful. I visited the store today specifically for the Uppababy tune-up service. I waited only ten minutes or so while the two women from Uppababy--who were lovely--tended to my stroller. My two-year-old son was with me, and we browsed the clothes and toys. The employee who greeted me was friendly and welcoming, but she left the floor right after I arrived. The two employees who remained while I shopped could not have been more unfriendly. Neither one bothered to smile, say hello, ask if I needed help finding anything, etc. They were both miserable and, frankly, stuck-up college-age girls. Even when I purchased a backpack for my son, the girl at the register barely acknowledged me. Although this store carries quality, high-end merchandise, I will not return and will not recommend it to anyone because the attitude of the employees is so off-putting. I can find many of the same brands and products on Amazon and at even at Nordstrom, where the employees are kind and helpful. read more

i bought a $700 quinny stroller and bassinet which was totally unimpressive and had multiple issues. with 10 calls to the store over a year no resolution was in sight so we gave up. the final, and only, answer from the store was "yeah, quinny isn't very responsive to us either." as a business, why are you selling their product!? very frustrating and haven't been back and wouldn't recommend. if you can't back up a $700 product and have no pull with the company, don't sell an item! its a set up for everybody. read more
