The "Bouquet Ring" on the Mociun website, a year after making my ring
Susan B.

This review is for the custom, "one of a kind" service at Mociun. We had our appointment with the designer just before everything closed for the pandemic, and so the timeline was a little longer than expected, but everything was handled well for that time. The ring design was based on my inspiration photos, and we tried a few different layouts during the meeting. We settled on one and the ring turned out beautifully. My issue with the store is that a year later, they reused the exact same design and produced it to sell in the store. To me, this violates the spirit of the custom agreement, the whole "one of a kind" selling point, which is more expensive than buying off the rack in the store. Granted, they only produced one more, so my problem isn't that someone else is going around with the same ring. My problem is that it feels really shitty to have come up with what we thought was a one of a kind design, only to have it ripped off and sold a year later. I emailed customer service to ask about it and pointed out that it's the same design, and the response was very unsatisfying to say the least. The person who responded basically told me that I'm wrong, and that "inspiration comes from everywhere" and that even though this ring is inspired by something similar, it's not the same. Yes, it has an additional diamond or two and it's cheaper - it's not 100% the same. But any fool looking at the photos of the two can see that they're not just inspired by the same thing; they're not cousins, they're twins. The customer service person even referenced a previously sold ring claiming they were both inspired by that one; however I have never seen that one before so I wasn't inspired by that when I requested this design, and it also is clearly very different than my ring and the one they made based on mine. I wrote back saying as much, and got the same type of gaslighting response, basically that I don't know what I'm talking about and there is no problem. Given that we could have purchased a car with the amount we spent there on this ring (and both of our wedding rings), I would expect customer service to at least take my complaint seriously and treat me with respect instead of telling me that I'm just mistaken and there's no issue. It sucks that this experience has completely changed how we look at my rings now; previously we had been excited to go to a local designer, support a local business (especially during a tough pandemic), and felt a personal connection to the store and brand. Now we realize we are not valued as customers (once you've paid the bill) and I really regret going there for something so important. I'm waiting a few years and then will go to Wwake to redesign my ring (where I should have gone in the first place). Don't go here unless you're buying something off the rack and don't care about artistic integrity (not to be dramatic, just being clear that you're not gonna be ripped off, you're just not going to be treated like you matter).

Love this store. Love the staff. Love the whole experience. The have beautiful jewelry, but also a beautifully curated selection of modern homewares and artists pieces. It's so refreshing to have such a wonderful experience and leave with a one-of-a-kind birthday present. Thank you to the ladies that were in the shop today. You're so cool!

After admiring the beautiful rugs on Aelfie's website for months, I finally made a decision and…read moreordered the 3x5 Aziza at a very reasonable price. Aelfie emailed the next day to apologize and tell me the Aziza was sold out in the 3x5 size. She showed me several other styles in that size and said I could choose one of those or size up to 4x6. Since I had my heart set on the Aziza, I told her I would size up and asked what the additional cost would be. She said there would be zero additional cost because the fault was hers for not keeping better track of inventory. Thus I received a gorgeous 4x6 rug for the price of a 3x5 rug. What a generous gesture! The rug arrived today and its vivid indigo-blue and creamy white stripes are even more beautiful in person. I look forward to purchasing more rugs from Aelfie, who is not only an enormously talented artist, but an ethical and admirable entrepreneur.

Under the guise of another craigstlist score like the $5000 credenza he'd scored off a guy on the upper east side just last week for $500. (I mean who says no to a craigslist run with the guy who scores a $5000 credenza at that kind of mark down?) They were two breeders with a keen eye for fashion and a strong nesting urge, and I just love nesting too so I was along for the ride. Anway this is all beside the point, but I feel like that's how Yelp reviews are supposed to be formatted. Obnoxious self indulgent personal aside, followed by earnest outpouring of love/vitiriol for local buisnesses. This review being one of the former. Aelfie's is located..... I don't know somewhere in Greenpoint, in what's essentially one of those old industrial buildings that have been converted into lofts/studios. You know like the pinnacle of chic these days. Probably THE best part was as we walked into the studio Peter Bjorn and John's Young Folks was playing over her iMac. It was almost too perfect on so many levels. The owner is a BA-bizzie, she was almost equally as pregnant as my buddy's wife and had such an awesome hustle going on . All the rugs were like either hand made in Uttar Pradesh and designed in her studio or sourced from markets in Instabul./Morrocco... I felt serious DIY #fomo. These are the kinds of buisnesses that the world needs more of...well I mean the world actually needs like a lot more important things than super cute rugs and throw pillows. Are you apprehensive because product photos never live up to expectations? Have you ever ordered furniture with promised 3 month delivery time but it really took 6 months? Sure, you can pick up cheap crap at IKEA on the fly but you're an adult now and you deserve quality. Welcome to Brooklyn City Furniture. We live in era where big box store chains and the likes of Amazon and Wayfair are putting independents out of business. Brooklyn City Furniture is bravely putting up a fight against this commercial crass. They are a throwback, a typical small footprint store jam packed with a well curated and eclectic mix of furniture and accessories. Still, you ask, "How are they better?" The owner of Brooklyn City Furniture is John, a casual guy who can be formal if required but hits his stride with laughter and ease, and he has a discerning eye too. He knows great art and he knows great furniture. John sources his inventory from stellar furniture makers such a Gus Modern and Foundry. Where in NYC can you go to a furniture store and the owner is there to help you? Find something you like and John might be able to sell it to you with ssshhh... our secret, a 15% discount. John isn't looking to rip you off. He sells great furniture at a great price. Wow, what a concept. Oh, it gets better. John's partner in crime, Agnes, knows all. She will help you with fabrics, pricing, and logistics. Ask John a question and Agnes hears every word. She'll even crack the whip when needed. It's a hoot to behold and worth the price of admission. Never has buying furniture been so much fun. At Brooklyn City Furniture it's John and Agnes. That's it. They are a perfect duo. One thing's for sure, you won't get this level of service at Crate & Barrel. Then came delivery day, of the beautiful Gus Modern Wallace 84" top-grain leather sofa. John and his very kind helper, Michael, showed up on the day and time they said they would. Since when does the store owner personally hand deliver their own goods? There was constant communication between John and I and he arrived in a gorgeous delivery truck... yes, it really is gorgeous. The sofa was triple bubble wrapped and taped. I was gobsmacked. My worries about the sofa being dropped on concrete or the leather being scraped on a wall, vanished. John and Michael wheeled the sofa up to my apartment, centered it along my living room wall, removed the bubble wrap and, voilà, my boring white living room turned into Versailles. I enjoyed John and Michael so much. Afterwards, we had a nice visit complete with the requisite selfies. Never was buying a piece of furniture this easy and painless. I've got a quality sofa at a great price and I made friends along the way. Stay tuned guys, I'm bringing you donuts this week so we can keep the party going. Five stars? Chh. I give Brooklyn City Furniture all the stars in the Milky Way. Thank you... oh, and the cat thanks you too!
