There's a hidden gem in Elkins Park - a small bakery near the SEPTA station. I've been there…read moreseveral times and it's been a wonderful experience each time. We went there this morning to pick up a raisin challah - we were making French Toast! The challah is excellent - rich, soft and sweet, it has a tender, delicious taste. The raisins added an extra touch of sweetness to the French Toast. Then there are the numerous pastries and cookies. We decided to get a few Hamentashen (chocolate and poppy), a raspberry croissant, a chocolate and a raspberry rugelach, and the most amazing looking Sticky Bun. I'll start with the Sticky Bun. It was exceptional; a soft, fluffy, and slightly chewy dough - challah like, but denser. It was laced with a sticky, caramelized glaze, studded with raisins and walnuts. It was 'melt in your mouth delicious', and a must try. Next up - the raspberry croissant. This is not your typical croissant - I'm used to the plain, or chocolate - I can't recall having a raspberry croissant before. It's one of the best I've had. It combines a flaky buttery croissant with a sweet, tart raspberry filling. The Hamentashen were good - the chocolate was better than the poppyseed - as the later needed much more Mohn (poppyseed paste). The rugelach was good; the raspberry was too sticky, but the chocolate was fine. If you're near Elkins Park, and you haven't tried Rolings Bakery, it's time you did!

I blame Schenk's for my post-pregnancy pounds... and I'm not even mad about it. My love affair…read morestarted when I was pregnant and craving sticky buns and anything with buttercream frosting--and years later, I'm still coming back. But I've been known to leave with a danish, a slice of coffee cake, and a few cookies I swear are made with fresh-churned butter. There's something very special about the traditional offerings of Schenk's and the genuine, old-fashioned vibe. I'm good with leaving the gluten-free whole oats to the on-trend places a few blocks away--Schenk's knows exactly who they are. Sticky buns would 100% be my death-row dessert. And now that they deliver with DoorDash, I don't even have to put on shoes to make bad decisions.

Oh. My. God. THE DONUTS. My timing must have been just right -- I got there early and picked up a…read moredozen donuts that were still lightly warm, slightly crispy on the outside and a perfect pillowy center. Did you know that the dough for donuts has to be "proofed" and they have to be baked fresh daily, starting at 5 am? And just when I thought Schenk's couldn't surprise me again, this weekend I thought my husband had picked up a birthday cake for my son's family celebration, but he "forgot" Schenk's now delivers!! DoorDash to the rescue. We took whatever was available so it was a white cake w/ vanilla crème frosting. Thank you to the bakery angel who personalized it with my son's name and even managed a soccer theme decoration too. Sweet, thoughtful, and totally spot-on. There's clearly new leadership quietly leveling things up--modern touches, helpful updates, and new offerings--but still showing up with traditional cinnamon-swirled schnecken. You can come back here and thank me later.

I want everyone in the Philadelphia metropolitan area to descend on this place like suburban moms…read moregoing to the strip mall on Black Friday morning. I want whoever is reading this to drop your phone right now, leave your house in whatever you're wearing, and hit the road. Because I want this place to become so popular that it never closes down. If you've never had a mochi ring donut, it's deep fried like a regular yeast donut, but made with tapioca/rice flour, which gives them a more springy consistency and slightly different flavor. (That description doesn't feel quite right... you just have to try them to understand). The icings are also better than average donut shops because they have things like yuzu, black sesame, and taro. They also have more traditional icings like strawberry or Nutella, but super-flavorful. To add icing to all of the icing you'll already have, they serve really great bubble tea. And corn dogs that are kind of hard to describe but you should eat them. And that's a full, balanced meal, folks.

I would definitely come back again…read more Convenient parking: Mochi Ring is located within this plaza in Abington. That means I don't have to look for street parking if I want to go here for a quick snack/dessert. Clean: My first impression of this place is...it's clean. With Covid still being around, the two employees that I saw do have their masks on. However, there are no tables if you want to enjoy and eat their mochi donut or try out their drinks inside the store. Mochi Donuts: They taste fresh to me. There are a number of flavors to choose from. And from time to time, they will have new flavors out. The day I was there they had Ube and Mango as their new flavors. Their normal selections I believe are Strawberry, Matcha, Oreo, Nutella, Coffee, Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Black Sesame, Coconut, etc. I've tried all except Matcha. Personal preference that I would recommend is heat the mochi donut for a few seconds before eating so the texture of the mochi would be soft and chewy. Drinks: I ordered their Honey Citron Lemon Green Tea and their King of Oolong Milk Tea. Both drinks are yummy and delicious to me. Definitely recommend to give the drinks a try.
