We dropped in on our way into Canberra earlier this month and fell in love! The interior was gorgeous, full of reclaimed wood and plant abundant, the coffee was delicious and beautifully presented, and the food was some of the best we've had anywhere. I had the "baked eggs, chickpeas, tomato, chèvre & sourdough" listed under the Favorites section - the dish, which was absolutely bursting with flavor, was comforting, hearty, and filling without being too heavy. I also had a side some smoked salmon, the edges of which were rolled in some kind of dill mixture - fabulous! My boyfriend had the corned beef sandwich and loved it as well. A cute little cafe, very rustic feel to it. I went for breakfast one weekday morning and it was quite busy. I ordered the bircher and coffee from the friendly server and settled down in a cosy corner. My food order appeared after a reasonable amount of time, but I have to say it was not enjoyable. The claggy sticky texture was wierd and rather unpleasant. My coffee was fine, but it did not arrive until after I had finished my meal. Not a great experience this time. read more

Brilliant modern Australian food in a gorgeous rustic setting. Open kitchen and bar area allows you to watch the action. The restaurant's focus on fresh and local is obvious. Outside are herbs and greens grown and used by the restaurant. A giant stack of fresh brown eggs, which they perfectly poach, sits on the bench. The confit duck sandwich is delicious, if a bit messy. This place was a very welcome surprise on my recent return to Canberra after a couple of years away. It has a very funky decor with a cosy feel; something many businesses in Canberra seem to struggle with given they are often housed in modern office buildings. Importantly though the coffee is good-- a decent show at some latte art which gives a good indication the the milk texturing has been well done. The service was also great. I had smoked trout, broken eggs and grilled asparagus for breakfast. Not an enormous serve- which I see as a plus having just returned from 12 months in the US. However, if you are a strapping bloke you might have hoped for more. All in all a great new addition to the Canberra cafe scene and a very positive addition to the New Acton area. read more

There's a stream of new coffee shops coming online in Canberra at the moment. And this is definitely one of the best. It does everything well. The coffee is as you'd expect -- really good. And great food, to boot. There's a brunchy bent to it which I just love. The fit out of the place works well -- shabby chic meets rustic. The vibe inside is cool, the staff are super laid back and super friendly. One of them, worried that I'd been coffee'd out, mentioned that the shop next door sells wine and they were happy for me just to hang out BYO. I mean, how often does that happen? If it's a nice day, you've got a whole bunch of outdoor seating to choose from. They seem to have a thing for Radiohead, which is just fine by me. Ducked in for a very early breakfast pre-full-day meeting and the food, coffee and service soothed my soul enough to help me power through the day. Welcomed in off the cold Canberra street, my coffee order was promptly taken and served. A beautifully balanced flat-white. Nothing fancy, but well executed. Breakfast was home made granola with pomegranate labneh and stewed pair and grapes. The labneh is what hooked me in, but the whole dish was nicely constructed and balanced. Crunchy and crispy and soft and tart and sweet. Just the right serving size for me, too. The staff deftly managed paying customers as well as a clearly very popular takeaway window. read more

Discovered this absolute gem on zomato and this place certainly lived up to its wonderful reviews! Such a great atmosphere, lovely staff and the meal was absolutely delicious. This cafe stresses the importance of organic produce and you really can taste the difference with these dishes (or it may just be psychology.. either way!) in that they just taste a little bit fresher and you won't feel guilty that you're filling yourself up with junk. All in all, would definitely visit again and I'd recommend it to anyone who, like me, gets a little bit too excited about cute cafes. read more

A bit of a disappointment, particularly because earlier reviews had been so praiseworthy. I struggled to see what was good about the place, other than the fit-out, which was fine, but nothing extraordinary. In a service industry, service is probably the key offering, but I got the impression that singing along to the song on the iPod (or maybe just talking to one another about the song) was more important than actually serving someone who was waiting, quite obviously, to be served. I can be hipster with the best of them. I once owned a racing bike (Peugeot Carbonlite 103), read Frankie and the Economist (in an ironic way, of course), and can grow a beard or mo with the best of them (as long as you give me a couple of weeks warning), but if you want your cool cafe to make money, you need to actually make your customers feel that it's okay to 1. Intrude upon your private space, and 2. Ask for something to eat and drink. Too much hipster, not enough service. read more

This place was stunning. Few words are needed as the food definitely speaks for itself. This cafe/ restaurant has a quirky fit out, lovely wait staff and food that is to die for. We tried almost everything on offer on tonight's menu including locally sourced oysters, wild mushrooms with bone marrow& the pork belly. We are not normally desert fans but after such scrumptious mains how could we resist trying both of the desert options ? Big ups to this cute place, so happy this is what we will remember from our Canberra experience. read more

I really wanted to like this place! I have walked by it for a few weeks admiring the decor and finally had time today to sit in the sun and order some tea. The vibe from some of the staff is very stand off-ish and when I asked for a refill of hot water they were reluctant to give it a second wash. A waste of loose leaf tea IMO. The reasoning was they only charge me 3.50 for a tea so I should just order another one. Not a good feeling. read more

Located in New Acton, we were here over the recent weekend and found it tucked near to A. Baker. A real surprise and very enjoyable. Fresh ingredients and friendly (and quick) service, plus good coffee - bonus. Lots of arty objects inside and lots of wood too. Love the open plan on the sitting area, and there is tonnes of sitting space outside if inside is full. Highly recommended. read more

Open on ANZAC day? Winning already. These guys deliver on coffee, they deliver on food and they deliver on a warm place to find some breakfast after freezing your toosh off for the dawn service. Food was served on plates (I know I know, it's exciting when I get plates!) - the staff were lovely and there's toilets that are just across the road that you can use if you're busting to go. All in all, I was happy with my eggs and beans. Definitely hit the spot and helped with the drive back to Sydney. read more

Every single mouthful was a delight! A beautiful, intimate restaurant, very stylish. I thought it was a café where I could write, but it ended up being a bit more upscale than that. Regardless, the staff didn't mind that I wrote at one of the small tables for a few hours. I ordered a soy chai and then dinner when they started at 6. I loved the atmosphere and setting here. The server was very knowledgable and helpful with the menu. The open kitchen concept was pretty neat. I had a chai tea latte and it was delicious. I also had eggs with hummus and they were delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food. Ridiculously small portion for one of the mains (pork belly). Nearly thirty bucks gets you three small cubes of meat and fat - less food than the $7 scallops and chorizo entree. What a joke! Service was slow, and they couldn't even manage to bring out the two mains at the same time. read more

Don't be put off by the wankery that Močan and Green Grout oozes--you should expect it from a venue that refers to itself as an "ethical café" and doubles as a bike maker. But there is something to be said for a café that does walk the walk. They literally grow their herbs at the front door and provide their green waste to the compost bin at the local community garden! read more

Fantastic! We were looking for a unique place to eat while in Canberra, and this was definitely it! The service was fantastic, the resteraunt was intimate but fun, and the food was above the top! The setting was absolutely beautiful and the wait staff were incredibly lovely. The food ,however, somewhat let down the night. The idea of sharing meals with your fellow guests is a nice idea, however, can get very expensive. Out of the five meals we ordered, the only meal I would possibly order again is the soft shell crab.
