I have been a customer here for years. It's always been a pleasant experience. As I'm writing the review today in the middle of a 37 degree heatwave, the air conditioning feels nice. It's a good place to take a laptop and work or study. read more

TL;DR: Delicious fluffy decadent doughnuts in a cafe in a large shopping plaza complex…read more After a healthy salad lunch next door, my husband and I decided to get some doughnuts for dessert. Life is all about balance, right? Lol. I got the Pêche et Fraise (Peach and Strawberry) which is a jelly doughnut covered in powdered sugar. Doughnuts are $4.50 each. My husband got the Tour de Chapeau (which translates to Hat Trick) which is a yeast doughnut with chocolate glaze, covered with chocolate crumbs and drizzled with white chocolate. It is not a filled doughnut. We shared both doughnuts. I always prefer filled doughnuts, but I was a bit disappointed with the filling of my doughnut. It tasted like pureed peaches and strawberries true to its name, but the texture was like applesauce which wasn't yummy, at least in my opinion. I would have preferred either more of a jelly texture or a peach and strawberry-flavoured custard. So surprisingly, I enjoyed my husband's doughnut more. The Tour de Chapeau was so fluffy and soft. The chocolate toppings were sweet and decadent. The crumbs gave it a nice subtle crunch. Service was courteous. There was only one person working and customers before me ordered specialty drinks so the wait was a bit long. They also sell ice cream, in addition to doughnuts, cookies, sandwiches and coffee/tea. There's indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. They have 2 arcade machines, Ms Pac-man and Mortal Kombat. They also had some boardgames available for customers. I saw Battleship and Connect Four. Lots of parking available in the shopping plaza parking lot. (153)

Absolutely amazing food, highly recommend!…read more I wouldn't have been able to tell it was gluten free had I not been told. We got the pistachio croissant and the chocolate hazelnut puff pastry in addition to the golden latte and apple caramel fog latte. Both lattes are not caffeinated and absolutely the most delicious, some of the best we have had. The apple caramel fog was one of the most unique drinks I have had in my life. I don't even like caramel but this was so good. It was like a caramel apple or apple caramel pie in drink form. I cannot recommend it enough. It's absolutely worth coming out here just for this. The pistachio croissant and chocolate hazelnut puff pastry were also very solid. We enjoyed both. Pastel & coco shines in every capacity, a perfect rating from me. Love this place, don't wait and check it out!

They had a wide…read morevariety of baked goods, some unique ones that caught my eye for next time would be the lavender lemon cookie and the cherry frangipane tart. When I got to the front, I saw a summer feature menu and was pulled in. I was excited to try one of their summer features: the blueberry matcha particularly since I had never tried one before. Unfortunately, I think I received a regular matcha or they didn't hear me say "aux bleuets" because there was no blueberry in sight or in flavour It was also a bit too watery for me perhaps because I opted to try it with coconut milk since the almond or oat milk options came with a 50 cent additional charge. I'd pass on this. However the redeeming quality was their matcha raspberry muffin! It was a 5/5 and probably the best vegan muffin I've had (or even muffin in general). It had the perfect moistness and texture with bits of raspberry and chocolate chips. Though it was a bit more pricy at $4.75, the quality was amazing and I'd love to go back and try some of their other baked goods. Overall, a very quaint spot attached to Astoria Bistro and located by many offices, I'd say their vegan baked goods would seem to be the highlight.

My first visit was many moons ago, when French macarons were just becoming popular in North America. I had had macarons for the first time at a bakery in Toronto called Nadege and I will forever compare all macarons to the ones I had there, lol. At the time, I did not know of any place in Ottawa that sold them, then some time later, I had heard that The French Baker had them, so I was so excited to try them. I was so disappointed though. They were hard and tasted stale to me. That put me off trying anything else there for years. However, I believe in second chances and even third chances. Unfortunately, I can't say that any of the subsequent items I've had there blew me away. Their cupcakes are tiny and drier than I like. Their palmiers are rich and buttery though, but also tiny, lol.
