I was interested in a Dodge Durango with a V8 at a local Fremont dealer, but wanted to get a mechanic's opinion before making a final decision. This is how quickly Jay came through: By Wednesday evening, Jay's responding (within hours) to my quote request for a PPI. Thursday afternoon, he meets me at the dealer lot ready to inspect. The generous value I received from his service: he's got a flashlight looking over the the engine to see wear and tear, he's under the car looking at wheel bearings, powertrain and showing me what he's seeing. While test driving, he's looking for suspension issues, listening for transmission shifting, testing brakes. Lastly, he's connecting a digital device to run codes and found a couple electrical issues that needed to be addressed. When he completed the inspection , I had an effective Due Bill to keep the dealer accountable to the needed repairs, had I gone forward with purchase. He also provided nuggets of wisdom on engine care and car maintenance that were helpful as well. Overall, Jays service was excellent; both effective and educational at once. My car wouldn't start after a 2-year pandemic hiatus in the driveway. Made an appointment with Jay who kept me appraised of his arrival time as his previous appointment went over. Once on-site, he quickly verified that the battery was dead (not just discharged) and replaced it. Did a few other basic checks, told me how to clean up the fuel system and I was left with a working car. Two days later, he called to inform me that he was able to pull the warranty on my old battery and would refund me the cost, which he did. Bottom line: Efficient. No BS. Honest. I don't usually write reviews but after discovering Jay and Mobile Mechanic on Demand, I wanted to share my experience. My car didn't want to start and it was completely dead. I had no clue what was the problem. I had contacted three other mechanics before Jay and they didn't even know what they were looking at and couldn't tell me what the problem was. I do not often provide a recommendation but when I do, it has to be rare and unique experience. I am very picky who I have working on my car. I am looking for a mechanic who I can build a long term relationship with because of their competency, integrity and their recognition of my needs and situation that might be different than other customers. I had such a relationship for two decades with a car mechanic in Fremont that recently sold his shop. The lead mechanic was still there so I decided to continue, at least for now. But I noticed the prices seemed higher. When I recently went back, they presented me a proposal for maintenance that were more than value of the car. What ever personal trusting relationship I had with them was now different. I knew I needed to make a change. I stumbled upon the concept of Mobile Mechanics, which I was unfamiliar with. Like most things I do, I did a deep and exhaustive dive into the pros and cons, Mobile Mechanics in my area, etc. Yes, it can take some time and diligence but if you are replacing a several decade relationship, it takes time, reflection, re-examination of needs and possibly some trail and error before you to discover the right fit for you. We live in a world today of more words with less true substance and a veneer of integrity so it might even take more time discovering a shop, a person, that can meet this type of relationship that I want and demand. Not easy in a world promising to solve all your problems and make your life easier. Often forgotten is under promising and over delivering! After weeks of searching the Mobile Mechanics industry, I stumbled upon Jay and Mobile Mechanic On Demand. My usual criteria was not first met by Jay. He was not a shop in the top 3 to 5 with the greatest number of positive reviews. But in Yelp, he was in the top 3 recommended in my area, which seem strange when he had only so few reviews compare to many others. I kept looking and speaking with others but I kept coming back to Jay. If you look at his reviews, the one clear theme that pops out in the first line of each review is how honest he is. A person who knows his current limitations and is brutally honest about them but also is clear what he can do is a rare quality today. But again, it is just written words and until I meet the person, engage them and experience for myself how they respond, that is the beginning of a possible life long relationship the enriches one's life. I want people around me who I can deeply trust and who knows me, even better than myself at times, to support me so I can put my time into utilizing my gifts and contribution to others ... and know the rest of my life is well taken care of! This morning my car did not start. I kinda thought it was battery however the car was inside the garage so I could not jumpstart. Found mobile mechanic on demand in yelp but there was no rating no reviews. I called and he answered promptly and gave us the time. He came and diagnosed and sure enough it was the battery. He went to get portable battery then again went to get a new battery and changed right there and there. He also made recommendations based on the circumstances and that's actually would make sense. His charges were reasonable too. Very humble, friendly, dedicated, and service oriented was what I found gentleman of mobile on demand. He seemed to be very busy person but won't rush until work is done. I am glad I went with my hunch and got chance to work with him. I have 20 year old lexus Gs 300 which would not accelerate and would not shift and loose RPM on th he dash board . Some other mechanics diagnosed as transmission and almost gave up on repair. I was stuck at Walmart in Union City. My truck would crank, but wouldn't run. I suspected a fuel issue, but had no tools. I looked up Mobile Mechanic On Demand, and Jay came out. He also had no tools because someone had stolen the catalytic converter off his truck, so he couldn't drive it. He borrowed a rubber mallet from the Walmart tire shop, gave the fuel tank (where the fuel pump lives) a few whacks, and it started right up. Met with Jay this morning. Very cool and knowledgeable mechanic. He came to my place and diagnosed my car. It was due to a malfunction with the car alarm and kill switch. Jay informed me what I needed to do but was unable to repair the issue so he referred me to Subaru to get a new key fob. Jay was honest and never tried upscale me. Jay is the most honest, kind, and knowledgable mechanic, I have ever seen. Extremely polite and very reasonable charges. Car wasn't starting, battery was new. He jump started and found no issues. He explained to me, what issues might be if car is not starting and inspected car, he fixed signals on dashboard. It was a quick visit. He didn't sell me anything in fact I asked him to replace few things and he said I didn't have to because my car was not very old. Thank God, I called him else I was going to tow my car to some other service station. It spared me towing charges.
