I went to this service station because they changed the shop Manager. Fernando has extensive experience and sources what you need in different places trying to offer a fair price. My 2010 Toyota Highlander had an ABS issue, they were able to fix my car in one day! He sourced parts and got me a good deal. I will go there again. I've had great experiences at the repair shop at this Mobil station for over 5 years. Most recently, I brought my car in for inspection. I asked them to do a complete check-up to see if I needed anything else. Turns out, I needed new rear brakes. The manager, Fernando, was great. He called me to let me know exactly what they would be doing and how much it would cost before they went ahead with the repairs. My car was ready at the time that was promised and they also fixed my hood which was not closing properly. I appreciate that they did not try to sell me anything unnecessary - even when I asked them about other possible areas of weakness. I continue to highly recommend Garden City Mobil. read more

They're polite enough, but I don't trust their judgment at this point and have stopped going. Some of their questionable actions included the following: * When told to change the fluid and filter on my transmission, they overfilled it by a whole pint. It is a good thing I check my fluids at every fuel stop, which in this case was at the pumps 10 feet from the garage. When brought to their attention, they stated it would have no effect. I found this to be a very strange claim since the transmission dipstick specifically says in caps "DO NOT OVERFILL", and many authorities say overfilling causes foaming of the transmission oil resulting in poor lubrication, and ultimately, transmission failure. Luckily, I had them drain the extra pint. * I experienced a pedal travel issue with my brakes. They claimed the calipers and shoes on my brakes were leaking and needed replacement. Another mechanic diagnosed the issue as the master cylinder. I also investigated myself and could not find any leak. Once the master cylinder was replaced by the other shop, the brakes worked fine. That shop charged $20 less per hour, and did not see the need to replace the calipers and shoes. The reservoir is still full. * At my request, they replaced my spark plug wires and claimed to have "road-tested the car" for proper operation. My first drive after the repair revealed a stumbling, stuttering car. I parked, popped the hood, and checked the wires and plugs. They had replaced the wires, but the #8 plug had the wire boot off, just hanging there in my engine compartment. Two of the other wires were not firmly seated on the distributor. I corrected these errors myself--and yes, I could have changed the wires myself, sure, but I brought it to them to save myself that time. Instead, they "half-fast" the job and I had to finish it for them. In fairness, they've accurately diagnosed certain other issues with my cars in the past. But their high labor rates for really spotty diagnosis and work quality just doesn't measure up. Unless it's an emergency, look elsewhere. read more

First of I'd like to say I'm not the type of guy who likes to take in his car to a repair shop. I'm a grease monkey myself so for me to go into a shop I either (a) don't have the right equipment for the job or (b) don't have time. I have a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali which was producing a check engine light to do to running to " lean " now I stumbled across this repair shop and decided to take it in as I don't have a smoke machine to help me detect where my leak is coming from. Let me say that I never once told these guys what exactly what wrong. Just that something evidently was causing the check engine light to appear. Now I do this because I like to see the thought process of mechanics and if they think idk what's wrong and they try to hustle me with bs I can easily put them in their place and see that they are a dishonest bunch of low lives. Fernando greeted me as I walked in & he put me in to the system right away and assured me everything would be taken care of. He was honest about the wait time and my place in line and although I don't have all day I really appreciate the heads up ? Who wouldn't right ? . After a while Fernando called me up and told me what was wrong (which I already knew of course ) and was straight to the point. Now here's why I am writing this review. They quickly took care of my leak after finding its origin , fixed it and ran more tests to. And sure it was good to go. in my book any mechanic that takes their times with a car must have a true passion for it because I don't appreciate a rush job with my daily commuter! Overall the cost was very reasonable and offered me assurance if anything should arise to come right back. Again I'm a grease monkey so unless either of the 2 above scenarios arise I won't go. But when the need arises I definitely will be coming back to this place because of their honesty and ease of business. You just can't beat that now a days. read more

Do not under any circumstances take an older car here for inspection. They will hold it hostage for repairs that are not needed in order to pass inspection. It has happened to me two times. The first time they said our 2004 buick needed brakes and new tires. I was suspicious and decided to walk away leaving them with the inspection fee and me without an inspection. I took it to Goodyear and was told my brakes and tires still had life and did not yet need to be replaced. I was in a rush and took our other 2004 car to them for convenience. They said it needed a rear differential mount to pass inspection. I called Toyota and was told that the rear differential is never a reason to fail an inspection. So again I walked away without an inspection. I asked two other shops just to be certain. Neither said that was a reason to fail. Got my inspection somewhere else. I did need the repairs and did get them at another shop with excellent reviews for less money. On another occasion I had our Toyota towed to Mobil when it would not start. They insisted it was the battery and replaced my battery. Less than a day later it wouldn't start again. I had it towed to another location and turned out it needed a starter! read more
