The prices are less than their competitor right off the expressway that catches all the people that don't want to or are afraid to drive a few blocks west. Some people that make it out this way to Sox Park (yes that's simpler) or to see a Bear's game, head to their destination and out. If they need gas they hit the station right off the expressway, it's jammed on game days. So you people know who you are. Just less than a minute west is the Citco, not only is the gas cheaper, they do have a small supply of snacks and drinks for your haul home. They also sell lotto tickets, which is no big deal most gas stations do, however I'm one of those casual players, I'll buy a ticket when the prize is insane, which is also insane because even a small 5M would be life changing. Anyhow they're patient with me as I usually mess up which of the games has the huge jackpot and what night the drawing is. Just gas and the store, they don't service vehicles, as not many do anymore. Perhaps a Yelp category change is needed.

I was running ahead of schedule then I spent 20 minutes waiting for gas and running on time. I get to the gas pump, slide my Costco card, fine, slide my credit card and it will not read. Typically I could then pay by cash or use some other type of card but Costco ONLY accepts Visa. I honk my horn no one comes. I hunt down the gas attendant who happened to be Andrew this day and he was incredibly busy. It was explained to me the gas pump card reader is extremely sensitive. As my card reads pretty much everywhere else. All I'm going to say is Andrew went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure I was able to fill up my tank after waiting in line. Had he not of helped me out...I would have wasted about 40 minutes then going to get gas elsewhere and then got to my uncles late and then my grandma's late (with the food) and I would of had to explain over and over how I waited in a 20 minute line for gas, tried to get gas for another 5 minutes and ultimately couldn't get gas and had to go somewhere else. They would not have believed me. I know we have bigger things to worry about in today's world but in my grandma's older age she has become increasingly anxiety filled and if I was 30 minutes late getting to the Christmas party with the appetizers and people showed up without the appetizers out...she'd have had a fit and I would have ruined Christmas in her eyes. So I cannot thank Andrew enough for saving Christmas for my grandma!

Thortons has one of the best (in terms of convenience) loyalty programs in that it's just $0.03/gallon with the occasional $0.06 opt in discount by email. Team that up with their stations typically having competitive prices and I will plan my errands with the intention of stopping by a Thortons. Regarding the drinks and snacks, that is largely on par with any other gas station. Their coffee is priced right (typically $1 for any size cup).

Anyway, for today Friday 7-25-2025, the surprising Cook County price leader for regular gas is Costco Oakbrook, and hooray for them! Here are the survey results fyi. Melrose Park was a very close second place in Cook County. DuPage County is cheaper than Lake County. The standings could probably change every day but I'm guessing not significantly but I may check again one day if curious and as usual not doing anything useful. Look at that WI vs IL spread, uugggh.
