So my daughter call me to tell me that her daughter has been getting sick lately and she says she thinks it's due to mold in the apartment complex. She says the property manager refuses to disclose anything in the bathroom. They will replace fixtures but not take care of obvious leaks that are happening in the apartment. How is this livable conditions? According to Hawaii state laws a property managers is required to keep it safe and livable. This apartment looks condemned. See photos below. No stars. The maintenance workers are awesome and work very efficiently. They are speedy in their work but also do the jobs with great quality.

I entered an online request to have my leaky kitchen sink repaired. I thought it would probably take awhile for them to come and take care of it. However, when I was on my way home, my daughter text to tell me that the maintenance dept had arrived and we're working g on our sink. "Bond" was very nice, professional and helpful. He finished up installing a new faucet (it's way nicer than the original one we had) and then clean up after himself and even took the time to put all of our cleaning products back under the sink. This review is for the property at 1132 Bishop Street. Without a doubt this property is beautiful and well maintaine, but it is the service and personnel that truly give it a luxurious living feel! Mr. Stanley the Lead Egibeer & the members of the crew, Mr Dean and Mr. Michael are the definition of excellence. The examples of their saving the day and fixing our problems are too numerous but I will give you this; we have a medical grade water system that's been critical to family members improved health treatments. When they moved into Bishop Street the unit had to be reconnected and due to the design of kitchen sink it because very very complicate. I have to say that Mr Stanley & Mr Dean continued to check in and offer new possible strategies to solve the installation problems even after weeks had past. To illustrate their level of service and commitment to excellence even weeks later, Mr Dean came by and gave us an amazing dirt cheap solution that had our water unit installed in 5 MINS once we received the part he told us to get, after seeing it in another unit and researching. You see they never stop doing their job. These men and the administration personnel Ms Grace, Ms Leah and Ms Leslie & Ms Veronica are all amazing and their presence and service makes 1132 Bishop an extraordinary place to live! read more

I love my men and women who serve but I'm talking about going military kids who blasts music and parties past 12am. Neighbors smoking weed below me at night. Moving out we were ripped off on utilities as we moved out a month before our lease ended, still paying the rent for the last month; however we were still charged the same amount for utilities as the month prior which was impossible because no one was in the apartment the last month and utilities varied month to month. We let them know in due time as required that we were leaving in the manner we were instructed yet were ignored, then when we called re: our deposit, they played it like they didn't know we were moved out a month early and said they never read our email notice which we were told to send and then threatened a lease break fee even though i said we weren't trying to break our lease we just had to leave early for work and gave them enough notice we weren't planning to renew. Also we were charged for paint and the apartment didn't have fresh paint moving in and we washed walls. Big bug problem roaches silverfish and spiders also ants and lots of stray kitties sadly. Got the run around with calling several times about the utilities and overcharge for paint but conveniently for them, they don't answer the phone! (even called corporate). I was told they'd send pics to justify the paint charges but they never sent them which i then eventually asked for them and was ignored. Sent numerous emails and got handed off to another and then to accounting who wouldn't respond either. They owe us money. Beware. The one thing that gives me solace after this worst shady renting experience in my life and of all places in Hawaii is knowing that people will read this and Moanalua will lose money from people deciding not to rent here. And anyone who decides to overlook the reviews be forewarned they will try to steal your $1000 plus deposit at the end of your lease. read more

First and foremost, all of these post are true, have not been corrected, only briefly covered up by the word of mouth of the SALESMAN trying to get you here. I wanted to put an in detail, up to date post about this shithole my family and I have been suckered into. So ready carefully. By the way, it's barely been six months and we've hated it from month two. 1. Don't fall for the "limited space" supply and demand closing technique. -They're moving trucks everyday with people coming and leaving. You'll find so many families sub-leasing their apartment to more family members. And trust me, you will see that a lot. 2. Units are not "newly renovated." Read the other posts about how everything is shitty & covered in paint. Holes in every door and wall. Even paint over my refrigerator because they lie and say it's new appliances. Make sure you look at the top of the fridge and you can easily tell the difference in color. 3. Staff in person may put up a nice front, just wait until you have to keep calling and bugging them for their fuck ups. They'll say your priority as a new tenant, but after two weeks, your just another sucker waiting in line to get shit fixed and having to be an asshole. ***You'll find that 30% of the staff live on property like April, the other leasing lady, & the head maintenance man. (You know they living for cheap and have AC in their house. Look at the first building to the left) 4. Parking: You pay $125 yearly registration to the community on top of what you pay to the state. No reserved stall for your unit. They just bullshit and say their are "enough" stalls for everyone, but "dont bother looking for parking after 9pm, it will be a challenge." Their are reserved parking stalls, but you go on a wait list to get one, & you pay another $125 a month and must have a "disability" and Dr note with management approval. 5. Towing;They're weak, dumbass, good for nothing security changed the parking signs early one morning because they forgot to at night, and got me towed. When I called to complain, security cover their own ass and say it was their all night. Management believes their minimum wage, pothead security guards instead of new tenants. Also, the towing company from Sand Island enters the property on a mission. I've seen multiple times, how quick they try to load and tow a car away before people can come outside and see. 6. Utilities: They say it's "around a flat fee." You get charged per person, INCLUDING CHILDREN. I advise not to claim all kids cos you will get robbed on utilities. Utilities covers everything, including maintenance. However it's about $130-$170 PER PERSON in the household AND THESE UNITS ARE NOT INDIVIDUALLY METERED! AND YOUR CHARGED PER BUILDING! Your paying for everyone else's shit, shower, ILLEGAL AC, EVERYTHING. My bill for 2 people is about $260 a month. $260 a month for no AC! Rarely ever lower. And I paid less than that renting somewhere else with AC on all day. **IF YOU WANT AN (A/C).. You must have a doctors note, disability, and pay an EXTRA $150 a month on top of your increasing utility bill. 7. Amenities: Fuck using them, their really isn't any. You have a shithole, dirty gym, old equipment, and crackhead people or kids who just hang in their. Pool? Yes, their dog piss and shit in it cos your dumbass Section 8 neighbors throw their dogs in the pool. Theirs cats everywhere, and and NO DOG PARK. The playground? Disgusting. Kids here? Get used to hearing vulgar language, drugs being smoked, drinking, fights, & chemical bombs at night. ***Don't even move close to the pool or park. 8. Maintenance: they fucking suck. I do a better job myself and one time the maintenance man wanted me to pay him cash? Fucking old Filipino man. Cabinets are crooked, stoves handles rubbed off, And plumbing all fucked up! (READ OTHER POST ANOUT PLUMBING AND FLOODING) The contracted painters broke so much window glass when doing they're weak paint job. 9. Neighborhood: I'm running out of space to type. BUT ITS NO DIFFERENT THAN "KPT" & "MERE RIGHTS!" 10. Finishing your contract, or leaving MHA? They give you two options, BUY OUT YOUR LEASE (2 months worth + utilities) or PAY UTILITIES AND RENT UNTIL THEY CAN FIND A NEW RENTER TO STAY! 11: Construction: All the time, everywhere nom stop. The yelp pics are fake, as you can see they are Computer Aided Designs and Not even close. 12: Crime. Murders, suicide, sex offenders & thefts. Search the Hawaii database. 2 offenders live near the elementary. *Feel safe now? Knowing your children are being watched by an offender everyday you drop them off? ONE OF THE OFFENDERS LIVE IN 1241 ALA KAPUNA right across the office! 13. I moved in with my boyfriend and he stays in one of the newer buildings. Though, it is new, there seems to be a bit of a roach problem. We literally had nothing in the house (because we were just moving in), and there'd be little roaches that would be in random places. Though small roaches are better than them big ass 747 roaches but it still is a bit of a pest. We haven't called the office because they were little ones and we don't really want to make a fuss about it but it is somewhat still a concern. You need a fob/key to gain access into the gated community and for you to access your home if you live in the newer buildings. In a sense it feels very safe and somewhat secured. I have a dog and I really like that I can take him out for walks, where he'll be greeted by other dogs and friendly neighbors, who rave about his cuteness. He has many places where he can use the bathroom, not to mention there are stands all around with doggie bags and a waste basket for their droppings. I DON'T LIKE THAT PEOPLE HERE DO NOT PICK UP THEIR DOGS POOP. Lazy ass mfs. It's annoying because dogs or their peoples will step on it or whatever and really I just want to catch someone NOT picking up the poop so I could scold them (lol). But seriously, it's not that hard. I think the complex should enforce this somehow, and I do have an idea (if the apartment owners want to reach out to me;). The unit we live in has a built in AC, a full kitchen and bathroom with a stand up shower. Two closets (one inside the bathroom and one in the small hallway between. Our unit faces the back of the building, so our view is a bit obstructed from seeing anything but the tops of trees and the backyards of other peoples homes. Though, there are two washers and dryers on each floor and two elevators not to mention a trash chute on each floor. Trash is taken out, I think every two or three days a week which leaves less chances of it piling up and stinking up the place. Other than people not picking up their dog poop, this is quite a nice place to live at. Four Stars because it's a gated community, it's pet friendly, my unit has AC, and it's a clean place. It definitely is not too shabby and when I get the chance, I'll post pictures. read more

We were having AC problems Saturday morning so we put in a work request and emailed the office to get it fixed Sunday morning. Within an hour, maintenance came in and fixed it for us!! After months of searching for a place we found available units here! Elise in the leasing office made the application process seamless. She answered any questions we had and kept us up to date with the rules and regulations even when Moanalua had changes in management. She even treated our pet like a member of our family. Derek the security guard also made me feel safe when I walked my dog at night and handled any security questions I had when other security guards were not so friendly. A special thank you to Melina and Ed who keep our building immaculate. Lastly 5 stars to Patrick our maintenance man! He replaced a part on our air conditioner after hours the day I came on from surgery to make sure I was comfortable during my healing process! There were a lot of uncomfortable moments living here, but these people helped make it so much more pleasant. These are the people who make this place worth staying here! So I live in the newly remodeled building and I have heard some pretty negative things about the other building. There is a clear difference between the new building and old. I highly recommend the new building. First and foremost each room is metered. So for electricity and water you pay for what you use unlike the other old building. The new building has AC, oven, microwave, fridge and a assigned parking stall included. For the studio and the slightly bigger studio there is a shared laundry room on each floor. every time I need to do laundry it's always been empty due to the fact that only like 20 or 25 people live on each floor. So all and all not bad. One bedrooms come with washer and dryer in the apartment. The amenities that really sold me was an indoor air conditioned gym, a pool and the security. I love knowing that my car is parked in a safe location. I constantly see security patrolling the area. I really like the fact that you need a key card to get into the apartment complex. It gives me a real peace of mind. The apartment complex is nice and well maintained. It's really sleek and modern. It feels like I'm living in a hotel. The views and location are pretty. You can see the ocean/ downtown from here. It's centrally located. * Some things to note* -It is pet friendly!! $75 dollar monthly cost to have a pet tho. -1500 for small studio. 1800 for big studio. 2100 for 1 bedroom. Idk how much for 2 bed room. - water electricity trash and sewage all came out to around 80 to $100 per month. (1-2 people in a bigger studio, AC on every night, TV on 8 hours a day) -12 mins from Hickam/Peral harbor -laundry is paid by you. So it cost $2 to dry and $2-3 to wash. You get this card you have to reload with cash or your card. -For night workers Walls are insulated really well so anyone who sleeps during the day can sleep very well. Plus people are working or pretty quiet during the day. No screaming kids or loud music. Due to the fact it's mostly single people/ couples. -There's a big ass window that's kind of hard to cover with blackout curtains because it's an L shape. But just get creative. I bought 2 curtain rods and combined them to hang black out curtains. And bought another curtain rod to put slightly lower to cover the smaller window. -AC is pretty quiet on low so you can sleep at night or day with it on. - only one parking stall allowed her studio. Parking is free tho! Parking on the nearby street is always full so really difficult to have guests. Residents usually park in the guest parking lot. Just something to note. Would highly recommend the studio/ bigger studio to someone who is military! . read more

Typical of the type of mismanagement and lack of communication I experienced. AGAIN, over $500 of my security deposit was not returned to me. I was charged to have the place cleaned and painted for ANOTHER TENANT TO MOVE IN. This issue has NOT been resolved. Once I brought it to their attention they dropped the conversation and didn't respond back to my issue and nothing was done to resolve this. If you want to be taken advantage of, this is the place. April was there to help me ease me in to the different units they have here. Her personality and attitude was very welcoming and comforting which definitely made me feel like home. She also had the patience of a saint as she took me to three different types of units and helping work through my indecisiveness. Then when finalizing everything, everything was transparent and expectations were very well communicated which shows such amazing structure at Moanalua Hillside. This was one of the most unprofessional places I have ever lived at. I lived in the newer apartments and was faced with several discrepancies due to their negligence. On the first encounter, I came home from work to find a letter on my door saying that I did not pay my rent and I had nine days to pay it or I needed to move out. I never missed a payment and had all my documentations showing I never missed a payment. When I confronted the front desk regarding the situation, they stated that they had no records of me making a full payment but a partial payment which made no sense to me because I always paid in full. So when I presented the complex my receipts they simply said thank you and we will take care of it without even apologizing. My second discrepancy with this apartment was when a pipe bursted and leaked a white liquid that stained my car. Several of the cars within the parking garage suffered from the same thing and reported it. When I took pictures of my car and the damages due to the apartment complex, they gave me the run around when all I wanted was a reimbursement for the damages. The third discrepancy came from my vehicle being broken into twice. The first time my vehicle was broken into, I requested a copy of the surveillance video that I was told that they maintained but their response was the cameras didn't see anything. I then requested to move my vehicle next to a camera in case it happened again. The apartment complex moved me to another spot and ensured me that my vehicle would be under surveillance but when my vehicle was broken into a second time they told me the exact same thing. Although the newer apartments in the complex look nice, the customer service and their ability to reconcile issues are way below par. I would not recommend living in this place. read more

Do Not move here if you have kids that are either special needs or local because you will have to put them in Red Hill Elementary which only caters to military children. They rejected our IEP and 504.. every other family we talked to said the had to get a GE to put them in a different school because of how they were treated at Red Hill.. but that's if the other schools are willing to accept a GE. If we didn't have to deal with such a terrible school i'd love to keep living here read more

I want to leave a good review so I'm gonna skip the problems about this place I'll mention this in the end just for fyi. So I'm gonna be saying positive things about it. The place is pretty spacious, dog friendly, has great gym and pool, maintenance people are great they doing their job very well. Especially my 5 star goes to people in the office, they are very helpful and friendly. Shaniahlyn is the best honestly she helped me out a lot with the issues I had here. Other girls on the reception are awesome too, I just don't remember all their names, but everyone is very helpful. Really bad cons about here is that old buildings are infested with roaches and ants, but u can request pest control service which is nice And rent is really high honestly, utilities is another problem, don't believe when they tell u it's gonna be 100$ a month cos that's what I was told moving in here. In fact it's like 200-300$ a month and I live alone and I'm rarely home. They don't have individual meters for units so they divide it by the whole building basically splitting it by the number of units and the multiplying by amount of ppl living in the unit. So be aware of that. And also I just went wed my lease and they opted the rent by 150$ it's kind of a lot Overall I'm still living here it has a lot of good things here facility is great and neighbors are very friendly and stuff if amazing that's for sure read more

I moved out in April. I was told to pay my rent in full and I would returned the difference once they adjust the pro rated amount move out fee and misc fee. I gave them $1900 they only returned my deposit and $40 dollars. With the pro rated amount move out fee and misc fee I was owed $600-700 back roughly I called Paea who deals with accounting she told me like everyone else said they needed to contact corporate please check the photo it's been since April i she hasn't called back or responded my calls. I lived at this complex for almost a year and there was so many things we disliked about living here. 1.The units look NOTHING like they do in the pictures. the floor material is old and impossible to clean.If you get one of the renovated units you'd be fine I suppose but if you don't you're out of luck.The walls and ceilings have holes EVERYWHERE and I had to put socks in the walls to keep the bugs out. The units are poorly maintained and you're constantly dealing with roaches, geckos, all kinds of bugs coming inside. Obviously living in Hawaii there will always be bugs but holes in the ceilings? can't even upkeep the units to prevent them from getting inside. The sliding door closest always breaks. We had to get it fixed at least every 3-4 months for some reason. Honestly these units need a serious remodel. 2.Maintenance/ Leasing Office: When you really need maintenance they are non existent. I had several of my requests ignored and when I didn't call them they would show up unannounced. I had packages misplaced, "lost", when I was gone for a trip and I specifically called the leasing office to have them hold them for me while I was gone so they wouldn't get stolen. When I came back from my trip and asked for my packages they "didn't have them". I had to let them know that I had a ring camera and I will show them the footage of the maintenance person picking up my packages, left to get my phone just to come back and all of the sudden my packages were there. When I first moved in I had a T.V. delivered to my apartment and also had maintenance bring it to the office, when I arrived to my apartment nobody knew who it was. a 50 inch T.V. missing?! There is maybe a few people in the leasing office who know what they're doing but most of them don't.. they can't even answer simple questions about if the grills are electric, or where can I pay with cash to load my laundry card. There is also no noise control at any time especially at night and even if we have security driving around there is no one to tell neighbors not to play loud music or make lots of noise at all. It doesn't seem like anyone cares about any of the rules that are put in place at this complex. Overall it was the worst living experience I've had since I moved to Oahu, I would highly suggest not living here. It was a nightmare I couldn't even stay the whole year read more

I love love this community.I was a little bit hesitant at first because of all the reviews but I took the chance to give this place a try and I am truly impress about everything. I work for the military and pretty much what I observed is that , most people that lived here is military, retired, and lots of families from different cultures. Its a gated community and theres always a guard working at the gate and no one can just come in without a card access. The washer room is well kept. The over all of environment such as sidewalks, elevators, mailbox area are all well maintained. The gym & the new pool is a plus . What you see online is what actually it is. Trash, bugs, broken appliances and absolutely atrocious living conditions. I wouldn't let my worst enemy live here. You'll pay out the nose for utilities the rent is comparable to what you'll find at better places on the island and to top it off you'll pay for extra parking and the spots are nowhere to be found. The only good thing about this place is that nobody really cares about the place is that they have a pretty office be warned. This place is after your dollar and they can care less about you once that lease is signed. Check out our most recent repair they did as a result of a rat chewing through the wall. The WORST apartment complex one can live in. Throughout our time here, we've been paying just so much for what wasn't promised most the time. Now, when we want to leave, some things start happening. 1) we were doing month to month. The leasing office calls and tells us that if we want to leave we would have to pay off the rest of the year lease. I had to tell them that we were on month to month serveral times and showed them proof before they let it go. 2) Parking is terrible. We have 2 vehicles: reserved and unreserved. When you get home late, it is next to impossible to find an unreserved stall. They told us right at the beginning that with the reserved sticker, it's okay to park in unreserved stalls so that's what we've been doing this entire time. My partner works later than me so he would usually take the reserved stall and I take any unreserved stall. Then I let them know we're moving out in 2 weeks. My car gets towed last night without anyone saying anything. The reason is I'm supposed to be in the reserved stall. If I didn't check, I wouldn't have a car to go to work to Monday and the management office didn't feel like it was important to say anything. Just last month I had to go to the mainland for an emergency and parked in a stall right across the street from the management office and nothing happened. I come home, tell them we're moving out, and all of a sudden my car gets towed. It's easy math on what's going on here. 3) New rules keep coming and going as they please. Sometimes it's not even announced. 4) People do not clean up after themselves. It is dirty constantly with anything from dog poop to a throw up stain that never gets cleaned up. There are no consequences at all for this as well. 5) The only star this place earned is for their maintenance crew. Everybody I've met on the maintenance crew are the only ones that really care about making you at least feel somewhat comfortable for staying here. They always answers the tickets on time and they're really kind-hearted individuals who do everything in their power to fix whatever is wrong with your apartment even if it takes hours. Overall, do NOT live here. The prices for each unit is outrageous. The "remodeled" homes are a ripoff. Basically just given newer (cheaper) things so they can charge you outrageous. While the location is ideal and the maintenance team is amazing, it is not worth letting this place dry your bank account each and every month for half-butt things. read more
