I do love living here. I am crazy mad that our living room wall has been having water run down 3 little trickle waterfalls since we moved in and they seem to refuse to fix the roof properly. The maintenance people come in, look at it and shrug their shoulders saying they can't do anything about it. It's up to the supervisors and they won't hire a contractor. Mr Bond is very nice and tries his best to find solutions even if the supervisors and people in charge will not actually approve any actual fix. Mr, Bond has always a great and friendly dispositio. my favorite maintenance person to work with. I do wish we would need to call maintenance less than we do, but the layout of the unit is amazing, so is the breeze throughout the house and we love the pools & gym. This 5 star review goes to Dennis Keigley Site Manager for Security. Several months ago, my car was broken into. With the cost of damage and items stolen, it ended up with me $750 in the hole. While I was filling my police report and report for the security on property, I gave Dennis the exact time my car was broken into. He was able to find the guy moments before and were able to give the police his address, name, and car. Without Dennis, I'm pretty sure the guy would still be out there doing it. I dislike these apartments because they don't treat their tenants with respect. Management is always changing the rules without notice, therefore us the tenants get screwed and have to give them more money. Rent goes up every year or few months for maintenance they don't even do. The front desk ladies are always rude and disrespectful, they never pick up calls or answer emails. I encountered a lady name Shalaine Ranada who was the rudest of them all. Laughed in my face and called me disrespectful names then threatened to call security after i respectfully asked why she was lying to me. I decided to walk away from the scenario when she started raising her voice at me and my husband. Our car has never been more towed in our own apartment than ever before. Imagine walking out to run an errand or go to work and your car is not there, in a spot where the apartments had said it was fine but suddenly its not because as i said before rules are always changing without notice. The apartments cabinets and doors always have faults and damages that we then have to pay for and i have found so much mold in the vents and places around the apartment even though I am continuously cleaning. I have a protected medical disability that requires me to need more room to get in and out of cars. These recent parking changes have been so unprofessional and ridiculous. The stall that we were given I cannot use, when we contacted the office about this their response was that I shouldn't drive the car and to have someone else park it for me or go park on the fire lane. By the way, they will tow your car on the fire lane. Additionally they have 10+ stalls reserved for maintenance workers that no one can park in and we are expected to go god knows where from 7am to 5pm. They are charging people to get a sticker to be able to park here, yet tow your car when you do. All of the parking stalls are open because no one can park in them without them towing your car. Do not live here. Management never answers their phones, and the security guards are constantly calling the tow truck to tow people's cars. The apartments have roaches and rats, and the exterminators do nothing. The maintenance workers don't fix anything and blame leaks and other issues on the age of the building. This place is a joke, management is unprofessional, and I do not recommend living here to anyone. I finally remembered to review this place a month after my move out was complete! I had a pleasant ten months living in Moanalua Hillside Apartments after a horrible seven months of dealing with management at Kapolei Lofts (see my review for that)! Ideal place if you wish to live near military bases, freeways, and Honolulu without actually living in town. The apartments are just up the hill from AMR (Aliamanu Military Reservation) and thus, not far from the PX mini mart, gas station, and other AMR facilities. Extremely pet friendly as well. Granted, I did move into one of the newer buildings while it was still not at 100% occupancy and right at the tail end of the construction of the new pool and 10,000+ sq. ft. fitness center. Because of the construction, my rent was slightly discounted to make up the fact that the pool and gym weren't available at first. I lived in one of the studio plans with a slight view of Diamond Head and more prominent view of Tripler Army Medical Center and the H-201. When I first heard of this place through Facebook Marketplace, I checked Google and Yelp reviews, and I felt weary after reading nothing but negative reviews. Still, I was desperate to leave Kapolei Lofts and move closer to town while my time to find a new home was running out. My first impression of Moanalua Hillside was great, to my surprise! The apartments were at a central location that's quiet despite the fact that the freeway was only yards away from the main gate. The gate itself is guarded 24/7. Tenants with visitors must apply for guest parking permits through the Reliant. Do this or you will be towed by Honolulu Towing, guaranteed! Tenants have assigned parking, and my space was under a parking garage. My studio was fairly spacious with an ordinary closet and additional storage space, yet the bathroom was enormous! As a single person at the time, it covered my basic needs. None of my neighbors didn't seem to ever mind that I was playing music quite loudly. In fact, almost all my building neighbors I'd run into at the parking garage or the elevators were nice! Be aware that the elevators may have various "accidents" from drunken nights. I used to live in areas surrounded by single drunken military service members, so I personally don't mind. Custodians would clean each floor of my building every weekday though! Because Moanalua Hillside is managed by a corporation, rent and utilities can be auto paid. Utilities are paid to a separate mainland corporation that works with local water and electric companies. I did hear that after my move out, utilities are now handled by a different company. The gym is amazing with plenty of cardio machines and weightlifting stations. Unfortunately, I never really took advantage of the swimming pool, but it looked great! Note that because Moanalua Hillside runs through Red Hill, there is elementary school traffic in the morning and afternoon, but most tenants are away at work during those times anyway. I managed to receive a refund of my security deposit, but it wasn't full because of a $55 fee for touch up paint for my wall, which was my fault for not fixing, so I thought it was fair. My only true gripes are the expensive laundry fees and increasingly limited guest parking, now with a complicated method of requesting guest parking permits. At $2 per load, I would easily spend at least $4 just to wash and dry my laundry! When I first moved in, guest parking was decently ample until management decided to transform most of those spaces into tenant parking. All that didn't matter to me anyway as I would just bring my dirty laundry to a relative's home. With the size of my studio, I rarely invited guests. Management offered me to extend my lease for another year at the same ridiculously low "gym and pool construction" rate, but I moved out only because a friend offered a room for rent in a single family home with roommates. Of course, I chose the cheaper option! It seems like living on Moanalua Hillside is hit or miss. I feel for tenants who live in the older buildings (the ones facing Ala Kapuna Street; you'll easily tell which ones) and have uncovered parking. In short, if you're single or plan to live with one other person, move into one of the new apartment buildings that are no more than two years old (with your window facing Diamond Head), have assigned covered parking, and are willing to cough up the rent for prime location (yet still pocket BAH for my military folk), grab that chance to live here! read more

This complex may look nice but it's infested with roaches, the elevator and washing machines ALWAYS have issues, and the management team doesn't care for the tenants. 1. I emailed and called the leasing office regarding suspicious activity surrounding my vehicle. I found two screws in one tire and at a later date I found another screws on 2 separate occasions. I reported it, no response. 2. My apartment was flooded due to a neighbor, the management team did not reach out to me and it's been four days since the flooding but they made sure to have Belfor (a company that tests and assesses the moisture) came on the scene the same day of the flooding. 3. I requested confirmation of displacement for my renters insurance claim and still no response. I've been going from hotel to hotel due the flooding & I've emailed Garrett, Faith (assistant manager), and Joni (regional manager) & nothing has been done. I don't recommend moving here unless you are very desperate. read more

This place is infested with roaches and termites. they will not get rid of the source only spray cheap chemicals after countless complaints. If you live here you will definitely get roaches in your car because they are everywhere. There is no parking available for everyone. The genius who restructured the parking gave away spaces to people with no vehicles, leaving open spaces that you can't park in. They will tell you that you can park on the street at night but they will tow you if you work a night shifts and get a good nights rest on accident. after 7 am you have to move your car and find a place to park but there is no place to park which will leave you driving around crazy to find one when you should be resting. if you choose to park outside the complex you will most like be given a ticket from HPD. They tow hardworking paying residents everyday because of their own ignorance. This place is nothing like the posted pictures you see online. I wanted to give a shout out to the ladies in the Resident Services office! Big Mahaloz to Shaniah and Meki! There was problem with the plumbing in our building. Sheniah called me and ask if they could enter my unit for an emergency service check, apparently one of the downstairs units was getting flooded. She was kind and professional and stayed in contact with me throughout the day, even providing a temporary shower for my daughters to use, because we couldn't use our shower, while they were still working on the lower unit. Last night , I returned from visiting family. This was the first time was home since our family started using the alternate shower location. When I got to the shower....it was flooded. So I wasn't able to take a shower. Needless to say....I wasn't very happy, so, I called the office and left a message. Meki returned my call, maybe an hour after I left my message. She reviewed the message I left and layed out a plan of action. She assured me that she would get back to me. And she did! She shared the information she'd collected. But I still had a few questions and concerns. She listened patiently and told me that she'd heck on it, and get back to me. And she did! The shower problem is not solved YET! But at least I now know what's going on, what the plan is and that "this too shall pass". I just wanted to give Kudos to the ladies! They were super professional, patient and helpful! I've been residing at Moanalua hillside for about 3 years now. Love the location right off the H1 freeway. Not to mention 2 pools & a functional gym! But what impresses me the most is the wonderful maintenance personnel especially Bond! He is very friendly/hardworking & is always looking out for us residents. We moved in May 1st and on the surface this looked like a great apartment for our small family. The first night out bathtub filled with dirty water from the drain. Maintenance came and told me that if the water is draining while it's showering then there's nothing to be fixed. Mind you the tub FILLED from the bottom DRAIN. Our door handle has already had to be replaced. Which looks like my 6 year old son did the replacement job. Two of our cabinets have come off the hinges. Now our paint is literally peeling off of the walls. Security is unprofessional (to say the very least) and inconsistent. - my parents come at least 3 times a week. Some days they are let in without even giving their name. Some days they have to show them their license and tell them our address. TRAINING is clearly not a thing this company believes in. We haven't been here 6 months and it's pretty clear that the hiring done by the management team is outrageous. Garbage all over the parking lot and in the grass. This is all just the tip of what's wrong with this complex. We can't wait til our year lease is up. I'm attaching pictures. Management should really consider their hiring process. It all comes down to that. Everyone that works for the apartment complex is untrained and unprofessional. A girl working in the front (today September 20th, 2020) could even answer a simple mail question. Security guards don't respond to you when you ask them questions. Gave this place a chance. The studios here are nice, however there are a few reasons why I would not recommend living here. 1. You have to pay for laundry, the dryers don't dry much (at least on my floor/building) so you'll have to end up paying $4 just to dry a load sometimes. ($8 total, $2 to wash and $2-$4 if your clothes don't dry completely) have to go to other floors to dry your clothes since people will leave their things in the dryer 2. Paper thin walls, you can hear pretty much everyone and everything (gross Iykyk) 3. Nearly $2000 for a VERY small studio, you're better off living in a 1 bedroom 4. You only get one parking if you live in the studio so you're SOL if you need more than one (street parking sucks too) 5. A lot of ppl don't pick up their animal feces, the amount of times I've found dog poop next to my car swarming with flies is pretty insane, (I know doesn't have to do with the management and just irresponsible pet owners but still just sucks) The gym and pool are nice, however the pool water is quite cold (for me at least lol) I honestly can't wait to move out of here. Would also like to add: my buildings intercom has been broken for months. They put a sign over the intercom over a month ago saying that it's out of order. Still not fixed. Highly doubt they'll fix it anytime soon. read more

First I have to say that I absolutely LOVE living in this community. It's so quiet and clean here. Respondents are very descent people and resident services are on here. They respond fast to requests and have very qualified workers working for them. Special thank you to Aler. He is always so respectful, thorough at what he does and always makes sure everything in apartment works well. As I mentioned, the stuff here is quick to respond, fixes the issue and does it properly. Oh, did I mention hearing everyday beautiful bird singing? Today my grand kid dropped something plastic into the toilet and freddy and bon came out and fixed it. The toilet had to be replaced cause the plastic was wedged deep inside snake wouldnt work. Within 2 hours of me calling they had a new toilet installed. They cleaned up after the mess and were very friendly and professional and did a good job read more

We had issues with our kitchen sink and contacted management right away. The same day, Mr. Bond helped us and was very nice. He worked very fast and was able to fix our sink in less than an hour. If you like ROACHES, MICE, STRAY CATS, and and an apartment complex that smells like weed smoke this is the place for you. Cop cars are in and out of the complex at least 2-3 times a week for some sort of problem. Lots of noise from H-201. I moved here because nothing was available, and renewed my lease because initially, things weren't "that bad". Since then, I've killed over a hundred roaches, laid enough poison around my apartment that I'm worried I may get sick, and captured/killed at least 20 mice. You can't keep the pests out, they're in the walls. Seriously, don't move here. This is like living in the barracks, but with worse parking. Every day, I pray for a grease fire to get me out of this awful place before my lease ends. This place is a dumpster fire. read more

Unfortunately this establishment is very poorly run. If you are absolutely desperate for a place that accepts dogs then it's bearable. But I will warn you it's dirty and the upkeep is sloppy to non existent. Constant dog poop everywhere, the laundry facilities are disgusting and half broken all the time. The new pool is great but none of the barbecues work. The utilities are outrageous. And the sassy staff at the office just make it even more of a poorly run establishment. The only pro I would say is the pool and gym. read more

Good luck parking anytime after 12pm. Guest parking is a joke closing when the office does and is scattered across the complex (that's if the guard lets you in without a mouth full of attitude and then following you to the unit you were visiting). The elevators constantly fucking reek, it's not even just weed I'd rather it just be weed. I've walked in a few times and almost thrown up it smells so bad. And I'm not gonna forget the entire week a pile of chicken bones were in the elevator and surrounding floor lobbies. We've had two people die in our building (that I know of) and one must've been a murder bc the bloody pillows and sheets were on the floor in front of the dumpster for 3 days which is just as bad as when the corner was going up and down in the elevator with a body. Hawaii isn't required to let you know if someone's died in your unit unless you ask, so make sure you ask because it seems pretty common here. Paying for parking is fine but you only get 1 depending on the floor plan and even the stall we pay for gets covered in this white stuff all over the hood and doesn't get fixed after multiple maintenance requests. Absolutely love having calcium on both hoods of my vehicles. read more

IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO RENT PLEASE READ THIS: I created a yelp account specifically to make a review for this place with hopes that I can save people the misery that I went through. This was the WORST housing experience of my life, if I could give it 0 stars I would. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR MONEY. The staff at the housing office couldn't have possibly been any less helpful and any more of a pain to work with. They are nice until you sign the lease, and they don't tell you everything you need to know. The rent is CRAZY expensive, the rooms are sub par (appliances are not great and roaches year round) and trying to get your security deposit back when you leave is near impossible no matter how good the condition of the apartment is. Utilities are divided by the entire building so you always end up paying way more than you use regardless if you are there or not (especially if your room doesn't have AC). The intercom boxes almost never work so if you ever forget your key card, you're SOL unless someone decides to let you in. The biggest problem I had was parking. They do not have enough spaces for the number of residents and have almost zero guest parking, which gets towed at 2am if you're lucky enough to find it. I have a full size truck and they gave me a compact car parking space. I had 2 inches on either side before I was out of the lines and on more than one occasion had to crawl out the tiny window in the back because I could not open my door enough to get out, and I am not a big person. My truck was dented in multiple places from the cars parked next to me opening their doors and was also keyed by who I assume was a frustrated parking neighbor. I talked to management several times about getting a space my truck would actually fit in but was told that it was not possible unless I brought a doctors note... which goes to show how bright the office staff is. The only good things about Moanalua Hillside Apartments are the maintenance staff (they are absolutely amazing) and the fitness center. For the money that you pay, this place is not worth it. They advertise a 5 star community but it is a 2 or 3 star max. read more

We were looking for furnished apts. all over & this place was the only one who called us back even though they knew it wasn't furnished or what we were looking for. They had the common courtesy to just return our call. To me, that is a huge. Not only did they returned our call, but also worked with us to get the place we need at the time we needed it and recommended a furniture rental place to get it furnished.
