This is one of my favorite nurseries in town. Not only are the employees always super friendly, but this location is also dog friendly! There are dog treats to sample inside and a poop bag station outside by the water fountain display. While they are a little more expensive than a box store, they also have a program called Whoopsie Daisy that guarantees your plants or you can get a replacement. While I haven't used this program, it's great for beginner gardeners like myself. I love their selection on everything from soils, to large ceramic pots. read more

What an incredible store! I went for the first time today and I spent almost an hour looking around in the greenhouse, and right when I thought it couldn't get better I went outside to see probably the most beautiful nursery I've ever laid eyes on! So many incredible flowers I've never even heard of, beautiful pottery, and some truly breathtaking sights. The plants were absolutely incredible and were only made better by some of the most kind, helpful, and knowledgeable staff there is! In the greenhouse Kira helped me pick out the perfect plant for my daughter and I was blown away by Brian's enthusiasm and knowledge of the plants that do well here! The cashier who rang me up was also incredibly kind and even gave me a couple of tips to give to my daughter for her new plant. We were looking for tree and shrub recommendations for our yard... and the staff person we talked to was simply fantastic. We gave her some general criteria. Then, she took us through the outdoor area to show us the trees and shrubs that they had in stock that met our requirements. It was such a great experience. I will definitely be purchasing some of the stuff she showed us. I love the seasonal items that they carry: from decorations to kitchen and pantry items. Had such a nice time searching for a new house plant! I was impressed with all different kinds of knick knacks, garden art, sculptures, plants, fountains, and gifts throughout the nursery. There was so much to look at, I think we spent a solid hour walking through the indoor and outdoor area. We ended up purchasing a ficus for the marked price of $89.00. What a beautiful place! Great indoor gift shop with unique goodies. The indoor and the outdoor sections are both chocked full of a wide variety of plants. Have to say they're a bit pricey, but they do have special sales. For instance, I was able to get some BOGO free pansies and a few other small plants that were priced quite reasonably. The staff was nice and very helpful. Overall, a very pleasant place to shop. I'd give it a 5 star if the prices were more competitive with say, Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

I visited Moana Nursery for the first time today. I've lived in Sparks, NV for two years now, and my 2-year-old son has struggled with eczema his whole life. Recently, I noticed some flare-ups coming back, so I decided to try adding a few air-purifying plants to our home since I learned that the average house can produce around 40 pounds of dust each year. After doing a little research on TikTok, I was still feeling a bit lost, so I picked up a snake plant and a spider plant. We went on busy Mothers Day and expected staff to be few and far between, but there were ample staff, all ready and willing to supply their excellent knowledge to help with all of our questions (about outdoor and indoor plants alike). The array of plans and the informative nature of the layouts and signage (full sun, partial shade, annuals, perennials, etc) was so helpful. The only thing that keeps me from leaving a 5-star review is the prices. (Pretty pricey! But I guess that helps them maintain the competent staff that they have. I thought this place would be really expensive, but it's not! My husband and I aren't really plant people, but my mother-in-law is. We spent a lovely hour on a Saturday morning walking up every aisle and inspecting what plants spoke to us. My mother-in-law knows a lot about plants that grow in California, but not as much about growing conditions in northern Nevada, and the staff were very helpful in answering our questions and making recommendations. This is easily the best Moana nursery location in town!!! I'm so disappointed I didn't get her name but there was a staff member working the evening of 11/14 who helped us and she was such a pleasure and made our experience go from great to amazing! Moanas nursery is super knowledgeable about indoor and outdoor plants as well as plant health. You can bring in your plants or even just photos and their team will help figure out the problems. So cool! They also run great specials. Right now house plants are buy one get one free (so of course we got four) and they're giving out free flower buds if you spend over $50! I knew exactly what I wanted here as a friend said they had the Sweet potato vine plant which seems hard to find. They have a great layout outside and so I walked around a bit but couldn't find my plant so asked a friendly employee, Josh, where I might find it. He took me right to it and he left me to choose. They only had about 6-7 left so I took the best two. They only had the light green one. I had wanted the darker one also but they didn't have them. He had mentioned he'd seen them before but they sell out quickly. I thought their prices were a little high, I bought three smaller plants and paid $21 but I guess they're comparable as prices are going up everywhere! I was able to check out outside which was nice. They have a wide variety sizes and styles depending on what you are feeling. Also the my had a whole crew who trimmed it and netted it up for us. The outdoor space is fairly large with lots of good looking plants, trees, vines, herbs, and more. The associates we spoke with were helpful and friendly. The prices seemed to be slightly high, although I don't have a lot of nursery shopping experience so that's why I left it at four stars versus five. However, the quality seems to be there and you do get what you pay for! Moana Nursery has been here a long time. The shop they have down on Moana has been a consistent presence despite many of the other businesses around it coming and going over the years. I prefer the one on Pyramid just because it's less crowded and usually better stocked though the selection is smaller. I got into gardening a few years ago and learned pretty quick that you want to shop around and not buy all your stuff in one place. Moana Nursery is good for getting your actual plants/seeds and fertilizers(the only place I know of in town that sells Fox Farms) but the "garden" stuff tends to be marked up rather high. $25 for a plastic bowl bird feeder?(the stand is another $30) Yeesh. Soil, pots, features, etc can all be had at better prices elsewhere, though if you look around, sometimes you can find a good tool or gloves on sale. The customer service there is generally outstanding. Most people I have talked to there are pretty knowledgeable and if they can't answer your question, they find someone who can. Just a really friendly, welcoming atmosphere. read more

I decided to ask, since it was my first visit and the gal had to ask several other workers. Unfortunately, there were only two left, but they looked really withered. Haven't shopped here since they moved into this location, so my first experience here. Easy access as you approach Pyramid. I know they have a larger and more diverse selection when other lesser stores will be sold out. Went here in search of a Japanese Maple. Wanted a smaller one that would grow into its special place in my garden. Found the staff to be extremely helpful and extremely knowledgeable. These are an investment and so needed as much information as possible. Came away with my Maple tree and have high expectations that it will work well! I would go back here to shop and next time will explore their gift shop which looked very lovely and know I would find something there I must have! The new location, which is close to the intersection of McCarran and Pyramid, is simply beautiful. Everything is upscale, from the tile flooring to the dramatic displays. The indoor area and the greenhouse area are both spacious and feature stunning arrangements of plants and products. The staff was attentive, friendly, and helpful. There was ample parking. The driveway can only be accessed from southbound Pyramid (not northbound). Prices here are probably a tad higher than big box stores, but supporting local businesses is important to me, as is being able to rely on the knowledge of the employees. I was able to find exactly what I was looking for in a short amount of time, and received personalized service. I'm new to to learning about different water requirements needed for different trees in the Reno climate. The gentleman that helped my daughter and I decide on some trees was a very knowledgeable cut to the point kind of guy. The selection was ok this time yet my visit a month ago had a lot more variety of everything. I like their sales on the pottery and house/ garden decor. Headline Review: my go-to place for anything and everything my houseful of plants could need. Hardcore horticulturalists will not be disappointed I've been coming to Moana Nursery on Pyramid for over a year now. As a succulent breeder, houseplant collector, and dinosaur enthusiast I am always ecstatic when I stop in. The staff is incredible and so knowledgeable, espectially Richard and Plant Doctor Michelle. As few months ago I brought in pictures of an alocasia I was concerned about, and Richard reccomended a fertilizer he used on his own plants. Now it's so big I can't repot it on my own. It's my pride and joy, so whenever it needs to move up a pot size I bring it down to Moana and the amazing staff team up to carefully repot it. Yesterday it sized up to a 15 inch pot, and Richard went above and beyond staking and watering it for me. I'm so grateful for this place that I'm powering through a violent hangover to write this review. If plants had emergency contacts, these guys would be it. read more

We were greeted immediately by 2 young men who were extremely helpful and super knowledgeable and fun to hang out with for half an hour wondering around the place. Yes Moana is more expensive than the big box store but they're local and so much more knowledgeable about what does well in our area. Arriving about 12 minutes before closing today. I was met by the manager Michelle who las lots of degrees in horticulture so she was able to give great tree and vine recommendations. She GLADLY took me out back and showed me the Thornless Honey Locust I came to see. And let me know the Virginia Creeper vine will be in soon. She verified that it will grow up a dying tree! I verified that if I bring her a branch she can identify it and if it's diseased she can diagnose it. It's AweSome to discover a KNOWLEDGEABLE nursery woman so close by! After reading through some of the reviews, it was clear that this business would have more stars if people weren't giving 1 star reviews because of their mask policy. C'mon people, it's science. Everyone there is really friendly and helpful. It probably didn't hurt that I had a puppy in my cart. They have a great selection and were fine holding the trees I bought until the landscaper can pick them up. Jonathon, in particular, was a big help and made us feel very welcome. I'll start with this: I'm not against masks. I wear one most of the time as a courtesy when in an establishment where it can be difficult to maintain distance. At Moana, when they started requiring masks for the inside a while back, I get that. People are in close quarters and it makes sense because it can be a challenge to maintain social distancing while browsing. I went today and they're now requiring masks for outside, too! On what planet does that make any sense? It's wide, open - in the fresh air. I forgot my mask at home but wasn't concerned because the 10 plants plus garden soil I needed were outside. I had to turn around and leave due to the new requirement. This nursery is a few blocks from my house. I come here at least once most weekends and regularly drop over $100. This overreach will keep me from going back. It's probably a good thing- been meaning to check out other nurseries. read more

We can not believe a business that sells many items in the Nursery line as Home Depot and Lowes, can have such BAD customer relationship management. 2 weeks ago we went to Moana Nursery for flowers, bird seed, plants and containers, at this time we also purchased a humming bird feeder. We were happy the store gave us a bottle of feed for the humming bird bottle. However, when we got home & filled it. It immediately started leaking. We tried to fix it and worked with it for about a week. Since we live in Incline today was the first day we had a chance to return the humming bird feeder to Sparks. No, they would not take it back unless we had a skew. WHAT!!! We put this on a bank card, our purchases that day were over $100. I offered to bring up my bank card and show them the purchase. NO!! they need a skew to take it back. Crazy during these times we try to support local businesses and not the big box stores. Well, guess where we are going next time!!!!
