This place is amazing. It's a Black owned establishment and the food was delicious. I got the smothered chicken, Mac n cheese and cabbage. Fresh and good. But that homemade not jiffy cornbread was so soft and delicious. It felt like came 5 and tasted just as good. It's the type that you eat your cabbage and cornbread with your fingers. They also had fried chicken, turkey wings, baked chicken, Lima beans, rice, mashed potatoes and corn. Their service was friendly and professional. I loved the closet if the staff. The owner passed away so to see a family keep his legacy alive is amazing. You can't sit in and eat rn but they are very clean and it smelled so good like Granny in the kitchen cooking good. They are located next to the car wash, in the plaza with boost mobile and other businesses. If you make it to the light and see QT you went to far. They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. The problem is had is. U got a young man behind the counter twisting his hair ..and then preparing.the bread. Not only once I sat in my car watched this young man..I didn't see him wash his hands no gloves on..the one gentleman fixing the plates had on gloves. I visited 7/26 for the first time. I see that they have 2 locations. I always try to go to the first location of a establishment because of the care and love being put into the process. My co-worker raved about this place, so I made a mental note that if I was ever on that side of town I would give them a try. Well today I was all the way on that side of town handling some business. On my way home, I decided to stop by and give them a try. No customers were in the restaurant and there were 2 women behind the counter. I asked if they had a restroom and the lady nearest to me said that they didn't really have a public restroom but there is a restroom down the hallway and don't make a mess and clean up behind yourself (??????????). Stopped by a couple times and this spot was not opened, maybe it was a Monday or something but went in this past Tuesday and was in for a surprised. I got a baked chicken plate with cabbage and mashed potatoes and gravy.... everything was good! The chicken was so flavorful? My goodness! Fresh rolls..... I can't wait to get back over there. The restaurant was clean on the inside mainly because you can't dine in yet. The service was great, the cashier should have had on gloves, but she did wash her hands .... she took them off and never put them back on ( do better ) but other than that, I have no complaints. I was rushed through my order in drivethru with no help for my first time but no one was in line when I got there. It is authentic soul food that you only can get in the South. There is no indoor seating available. It's take out only at this point. My mother got the meat loaf with collar greens and black eye peas ($9.50). I ordered the oxtail dinner with cabbage and sweet yams($20). Both meals came with a drink and complementary cornbread. My mom absolutely raved about her dinner, my oxtails were a different flavour than I've ever had before but definitely delicious and generous with the serving. They were on a bed of rice as well. Parking can be very limited during busier hours such as lunch, so don't be surprised to see people double parking. Today, I got a veggie plate with four sides for $7.49. I think if you order sides separately, they are $1.99 each. I tried the macaroni and cheese, cabbage, yams, and green beans. I really liked the macaroni and cheese and cabbage. The yams and green beans were okay. I liked that nothing was too salty. I also tried their homemade sweet potato pie, which was very very creamy, but did find a couple pieces of sweet potato fibers in the pie. Service was okay; you'll get your needs met. Sadly I'd hate to do this but I went last night and had wonderful food from here. And I have been here a number of times before and never had an issue. However, I spent $55.02 to be exact and I checked my bank account today and I was charged $66.02 which I know for a fact that I didn't leave a tip because I got good to go. I have called their number that's listed multiple times today to get in touch with some to correct this but no one has answered. I happened upon this spot unexpectedly while in the area one day. I was really feeling some home-cooked style soul food, which is surprisingly hard to come by in Atlanta metro and the clever name of the establishment caught my eye. I ordered the catfish fish (I know; why order fish in a chicken joint) which came with 2 sides and a choice of bread, roll or cornbread. I overheard someone ask for greens and heard that they were out so I knew upon approaching the cafeteria style counter that that was not an option. However they had selections as varied as green beans, mashed potatoes, succotash, lima beans, cabbage as well as mac n' cheese left. I selected the lima beans and mac n' cheese but added on cabbage after seeing someone else's order dished up. The staff is not overly friendly and the atmosphere is stark but clean. The menu is posted digitally above the service line. The tea and lemonade are almost at diabetic levels so watch out! And of course the food ... everything I had was well seasoned. My catfish came with homemade tartar sauce which you didn't need a lot of to be satisfied. There was a wait but it was worth it; my food was hot even after the drive from Decatur to Atlanta! Hmmm, this review is mixed. I like that there is a soul food restaurant in the area. The staff is warm and hospitable. The prices are great. I don't know too many places where you can get two pieces of chicken (baked or fried), two sides and a roll or cornbread for $6.99. They also close at 10 most nights and you can call ahead to place an order for fried fish. There's also free parking and there's a large, clean dining area. So why only three stars? The menu never changes, I mean ever. There is a varied selection of sides. There's cabbage, collards, candied yams, yellow rice, black eyed peas, lima beans, Mac n cheese and okra and tomatoes. How can I rattle off the list in my sleep? Because it never changes! There's also baked chicken, fried chicken, chicken with gravy, fried fish and wings. Occasionally super expensive oxtails are offered on Sundays. For dessert there's sliced pound cake and sweet potato pie. The formula must be working cause there's always a short line. I'm told that the veggies are from the Farmers market and nothing is canned. I've had all the sides and the fried and baked chicken. The sides are cafeteria bland, the baked chicken was decent and the fried chicken is overrated. It was fried way too hard and could have been a be a lot 'Mo Better.' See what I did there :). I don't eat catfish but it's piping hot and fresh and Granny gives it props. A three piece catfish meal is $11.99. In short, this is not my cup of tea.
