A small restaurant, this place packs a lot of flavors in there dishes. I had the steak with mushrooms and my boyfriend had the beef goulash. Both were extremely delicious and fairly priced. We happened to stumble across this place while searching for a quick snack after 24 hours of travel and what a gem. It was so cute inside - traditional cellar-esque decor, rustic tables, even an outside patio if it were warm out. And the staff were super friendly and helpful. It was pretty touristy, but still felt pretty authentic. We got beers (which were cheaper than water in true Czech fashion) and some plates to share. Cheese platter - really good Brie-type soft cheese (it wasn't quite Brie but I didn't know enough to figure out by taste exactly what it was), blue cheese, Gouda, another sliced deli cheese I couldn't discern, and some butter. Pickled sausage - VERY pickley. We liked it a lot, but just take the name seriously is all. Ham with mustard - again exactly what it sounds like. Cooked like a thick bacon, and came with some good pickled peppers. Gnocchi with poppy seeds, melted butter & sugar - we just had to try such a unique dish. It was too sweet to not be dessert by not sweet enough to be dessert. Not the most flavorful, but still good. Probably wouldn't order it again but hey, I'm on an adventure right? We just had dinner tonight at Mlejnice! Loved the food; great service and great find off the beaten path! I had the pork tenderloin braided and inserted with garlic and cheese that was outstanding. My husband had the salmon with herb butter equally as good! There was a wait, but we expected that due to other reviews! My boyfriend and I got the pork knuckle, beef goulash, and to make ourselves feel better about all the other calories....steamed veggies. We couldn't finish any dish they were so big. The pork knuckle was crispy on the outside and tender and so juicy on the inside. It was served with a spicy pepper and horseradish. The goulash was a thick with large cubes of beef inside a rye-like bread bowl. The lid was crispy and the goulash softens the inside of the bowl making a yummy treat and you eat the goulash down. This restaurant came highly recommended to us, so on our first night in Prague, we stopped in to have the traditional pork knee and a side of cabbage pancakes. The pork was salty and smoky and delicious with layers of fat and meat. It sort of reminded me of the giant turkey legs available at amusement parks, but much much better. The gravy or meat juice on the bottom of the plate was delicious and we dipped the pancakes in it to soak it all up. The pancakes were so unique and also delicious. The portion is HUGE and we easily had way more than enough for 2 people. My wife and I went here for our first meal on our trip through Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary, and it was my personal favorite meal of the trip. I got the goulash in the bread bowl and my wife got the chicken schnitzel. The goulash was outstanding, my favorite dish on our trip. I got up to order as I wasn't sure as to order at the bar or not and he had a go at me and ask me to be seated, while he clear the table next to us and then proceeded to ask us for our order. It didn't end there, he then asked where we were from and asked If it was normal to get up to order. I said yes it was, no disrespect. He then went on to tell Me how he was the only waiter and that we would have to wait 40mins for our meal. We said that's ok we may move on in that case. Never have I tried a pork knee but it is sooo delicious!! Crispy skin with soft beer braised meat in the inside. The portion is HUGE!!! The beer taste isn't very strong either which I enjoy. My husband had the chicken dish with a creamy sauce and potatoes. The place has a rustic vibe to it and it makes me feel at home since a lot of Koreans and foreigners go there. So it makes you feel like you don't have to live in Prague to go there. And of course there is a English menu!! Only downside is long wait without reservation and flat beer. read more

We came here after the positive reviews. The first night we tried to have dinner there they didn't take credit cards and it was our first night in Prague so we didn't have cash yet. We returned a couple days later and were greeted by a tall man that didn't seem very happy to be there. He was also the only waiter. We were quickly seated and I ordered the potatoes with bacon and a side of steamed veggies. These two dishes were very delicious! After we ordered the beer battered onion rings but they were just doughy and lacking flavor. We noticed that incorrect meals were being served to people around us and when this was brought up to the server he would seem upset. When we asked for our check we were charged incorrectly and had to bring it up. When we did, our server seemed upset and made us feel uncomfortable. Overall, some plates are great tasting but nothing special. A few dishes need more work and attention. Won't return. read more

This lovely restaurant was quiet at 3:30 pm on a Wednesday in June. We ate in the garden and ordered a large salad, grilled vegetables, steamed vegetables, spinach (creamed with roasted garlic), and the cabbage sausage soup. Wow. I've only reviewed a handful of spots but this place is amazing. I just walked in the door of our rental and told my wife I had to take a minute to post this. I had the beef steak with garlic and onion...just might be the single best meat dish I have ever had. It's a thin steak wrapped in bacon, wrapped round an unreal garlic and onion combo that makes the meat just unbelievable. Juicy, flavorful, tender, etc...just absolutely delicious. My wife had the grilled chicken filet on baguette with vegetables. Neither of us like tomatoes and will go out of our way to avoid them - the tomatoes made this sandwich. Tender, very fresh, all around awesome. We split a side of potato croquettes...dip them in the steak sauce. We found this place via yelp...and they nailed it. This was our first meal in Prague and we were very excited to try Czech food for the first time. We had the rural potatoes with bacon, the duck leg with dumplings and the pickled Brie. The potatoes were the best part of the meal and were amazingly indulgent. The duck leg was very tender, but the dumplings it came with were disappointing. The Brie was also meh. Beer selection was lacking, but we just came from Germany so our expectations might have been too high. They awkwardly ask for tip at the end of your meal and stand over you as you try to figure out the math. Not sure if this is only at this restaurant or at all Czech establishments, but it felt weird leaving a tip in Europe. Overall a good first meal, but hope the rest of our food improves on this experience. read more

I'll keep this one simple. The food was good and I recommend coming to this place for what it's good for, MEAT. We got a potato dish with bacon and some other things mixed in that was pretty good. The steamed vegetables were also a great side. My problems with this place is honestly the service. There was one tall male waiter for the whole place who no matter what we said looked bothered. He never comes by, when he takes your order he walks away before you even finish talking, and when he pours you a 0.5L of beer you get half foam and half beer. We made a small change on our order and even though it was priced less he still charged us for the more expensive item. I asked to change it and he insisted it wasn't a big deal. I asked for him to just fix that please and he proceeded to roll his eyes and walk away to get the change. Their door says it takes visa but there is a printed sign on the main door that says it only takes CASH so make sure you have enough. (Unless its changed by the time you read this review) read more

We first arrived in Prague late Sunday afternoon in September. While most of the restaurants in the main plaza were packed to the gills, Mlejnice was slightly out of the way and a table was instantly available. We were surrounded by tourists so our server was a little gruff with us at first but he quickly warmed when we drained our first beer then ordered a second round with a smile and a thank you. It is a small restaurant filled with a variety of old world memorabilia. There are some fantastic smells wafting through the room especially when a freshly cooked meal gets placed at a nearby table. This includes Goulash served in bread bowls, giant hunks of pork, potatoes baked with cheese and the infamous pork knee. That sucker is huge and definitely meant to share with ample amount of beer. As we gulped through our beers, I decided on pork and broccoli and my boyfriend grabbed a cheesy potato dish. We started with onion soup and onion rings with garlic sauce. Both were delicious and a great start to our meal. Do not think of it as a french onion soup but it was much lighter with far less cheese. When our meals came, we quickly dug in. Pork was well cooked and I felt like after a lot of meat, I really needed that broccoli. The baked potatoes with cheeses and other additives was really delightful as well. We loved the food. So much so that we came back a second night to try another entree. For my second meal, I ordered the beer goulash in a bread bowl. My word that was some delicious food. RE: BAD SERVICE + TIPPING 101 Came across this place through "Honest Guide" YouTube recommendation on traditional Czech food. The dinner that we had cost us 697 ckz; we had 2 main to share and dessert (Duck with gnocchi, Chicken breast schnitzel and apple strudel 4 drinks) The only thing I can comment about the food was the duck was slightly dry compared to other restaurants we've tried and apple strudel was slightly disappointing, couldn't fathom why is it paired with whip cream instead of ice cream but overall it was alright since those were their speciality dishes and so happen they ran out of Pork Knee. But my family and I was SO UNHAPPY with their service. It happened at the end when we paid, we were aware that tipping is common thing here. So, we've paid 700 ckz (note that we didn't have much changes but big note) the waiter than looked at us like bunch of thieves. He replied to us harshly "Only 3 ckz for tips? food was nice, service was nice, no?" We were literally stunned when he spoke to us that way and felt like we were corned which didn't give us a chance to digest the situation. We said to him that we don't have small change and we are still paying for it, its not like we weren't paying exact amount. He didn't need to speak to us in a harsh tone or question us on how much we should tip him. Anyways, 200 ckz was what we had so we gave him YET he was still bickering to his colleague about it. Customer service here is SHIT! Would I come back here: ABSOLUTELY NOT, especially with that waiter crappy attitude.
