Having completed two years at PSA, my children will enter kindergarten this fall knowing they have accomplished developmentally appropriate but challenging tasks. In addition to ensuring that students achieve academic milestones, PSA teaches children to be worldly citizens and considerate members of the community. Their students are aware of a great big world behind their town but they appreciate the opportunities and worth within reach. Procedurally, PSA is an efficient business that effectively handles business matters. Its school policies are reasonable and we appreciated their efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of its students, teachers and staff. Cassandra and Bethany are the sweetest people who are always just so understanding and attentive to all your child's needs, strengths and accomplishments. They notice even the smallest gains and achievements and work to put together a plan that will work best specifically for your child. Although we haven't been able to access the inside of the location much at all since the pandemic started (only to ensure the most sanitary conditions for all the kids at the center), we know the center itself is super clean and well taken care of inside. Ms.Maura is an amazing teacher/director for the day program and is super knowledgeable on what works best for the kids here. She has extensive experience working with children on the spectrum and with any social/developmental delays and is such a sweetheart. She always comes up with the cutest projects and themes for the kids to focus on every week and tracks their progress thoroughly. She gets to know each of the kids individually and is a wonderful asset to this place. I have consistently recommended this place to people and will continue to do so, as this has been such a blessing for our family to have come across. He learned so much in the time he spent there, prior to Covid-19 lockdown.  We will miss his teachers dearly! Cons: The administration at this site is in need of increased professionalism.  A lot of communication has gray areas and is done vaguely, leading to miscommunication, misunderstandings, and tense conversations with the owner.  We have since decided not to return to the center but the manager has decided to keep our deposit, despite our child not attending since the state-wide shut down or reopening.  We clearly spoke about removing him from the roster and that he would potentially have to be on a waitlist upon return because a spot WOULD NOT be held.  We were completely okay with that risk.  Unfortunately, she started singing another tune when we decided not to return and is in turn, holding the deposit hostage. I am extremely disheartened that this was our final moment and experience with the center.  His teachers were amazing educators and individuals.  If I recommended Buzzing Bees of East Orange, NJ to you, I would say please be prepared to communicate and stand up for yourself frequently because the manager will switch things up to her benefit and to make sure she keeps as much money as possible, in any situation- just or unjust. My daughter happens to be approaching the pre-K age. I WAS (keyword is WAS!) considering Montclair community pre-K as one of our options. I approached the booth and began looking at some of the literature. One of the staff members approached me and immediately said "do you live in Montclair?". I said no. She proceeded to tell me that my child was not eligible for financial aid because we did not live in Montclair. (FYI, I did not ask about financial aid. We DO NOT even need financial aid. I did not get the chance to ask any questions. Her first thought was that we must need financial aid because we don't live in Montclair). I thought to myself OK, not the best way to sell your institution, but whatever. I proceeded to ask some questions regarding the institution (i.e. classroom size, teacher to student ratio, curriculum, etc.) She then AGAIN continued to tell me how my child would not be eligible for financial aid because I did not live in Montclair. I tossed the brochure on the table and walked away. Your institution just lost a potential new student. If this woman spoke to anyone else, whom does not live in Montclair, i'm sure they were turned off by her abrasive and dismissive attitude. You may not want her to continue to be the face of your institution.

This is my son's second year at the Pre-K and I truly love this school. His teacher this year is a…read moremaster teacher that is able to embed academic learning within themed-based units. The students most recently opened a cafe in their classroom where they used math, reading and writing to create and run the cafe. Most importantly, he has consistently learned about empathy and compassion for others, in particular, his classmates. Character development is explicitly taught and experienced in weekly activities. Truly all the staff is incredibly kind and wonderful. I find it shocking that there is another review that felt differently. The directors of the school, not only know my son's name that goes to the school, but also the names of my two smaller children. When you come to the pre-k, it feels like family.
