A few people had recommended Shelby Semel so we decided to give it a try and were SO incredibly lucky enough to be matched with Genevieve. I have never worked with a trainer so knowledgable about dog behavior. While other trainers in the past were rigid and just used the same, standard techniques that don't work for highly reactive and anxious dogs, Gen took the time to get to know and understand our dog and provided insight into his behavior. What I appreciated most is that she was always realistic with us and our training sessions/goals never felt idealistic or unattainable. Rather, we truly focused on little steps and management which also completely shifted our own perspective on how we should be engaging with our dog going forward. Gen worked with us through a huge move, the birth of our first child, and the introduction of our nanny and we credit all of our success to her. Even outside of sessions she checks in with texts to see how things are going and genuinely cares about the progress of your dog. If you want someone who will actually take the time to understand your individual circumstances/pet and will truly work with you on creating the right plan with realistic and actionable goals, I can't recommend Gen enough.

Before starting our sessions, I was struggling with an over-excited Golden Retriever puppy. I had reached a point where I was losing hope, but Warren completely helped me regain my patience. His calm, expert approach changed the dynamic almost immediately. What sets this training apart is how manageable it is. Warren's training methods are intuitive, and his super detailed recap emails were a total game-changer. They made it incredibly easy to practice on my own between sessions, ensuring that we never lost momentum. Training didn't feel like a chore, and because Warren's methods actually work, it was super rewarding. Ultimately, I feel like I have a totally new dog and an infinitely stronger bond with her. I cannot thank Warren enough for his help. If you want a trainer who truly cares and delivers real results, Warren is your guy!

Ruby knows the moment we turn onto 7th Ave that's she's going to City Tails and her tail starts wagging and she literally takes off, pulling me to Leroy street. From Ruby's excitement and my own interactions, it's clear that everyone that works at City Tails is incredibly friendly and truly cares about the dogs. I am a huge animal lover, and so was so happy to see someone loving their pet. I walked across the street to thank him for bringing joy that day, saying how much he must love his dog. He replied, "Oh, this isn't mine; I'm his walker." I was amazed. I then asked him if his company took care of cats. He said, "yes" and handed me his card. I have two brothers (Asian shorthairs) who Michael and the lovely, gracious Marixa have taken care of for the last ten years. I cannot tell you the peace of mind and security they provide when they sit for my cats. With each visit, they clean the litterbox and feed the guys, play with them, and then provide a detailed email report of how the visit went. I used Yelp's Reqest-A-Quote feature to essentially interview dozens of different pet boarding professionals, and this husband and wife team earned the job on their own. They were quick to reply with any concerns I had, they seemed authentically interested in my dog's well being, I was assured my dog would be cared for around the clock in the company of their own animals, and they were able to pick up and drop off at my apartment even though they live in Flushing, Queens. The convenience factor and the family environment they incorporate into the dog boarding process made it a pretty easy choice. I used them for eight days in the middle of February, and I'm already using them again for another out of town trip coming up this week.

Despite this, she was approved for future boarding, even though she came home clearly traumatized - shut down, not going outside, and not peeing or pooping for nearly 24 hours. They called me repeatedly during work hours to discuss after I flagged the injury, and though I responded promptly via email and text, I was accused of being unresponsive. After requesting a refund for the vet bill, they stopped replying entirely. While they did refund the stay itself, their lack of accountability and care makes me question how much attention dogs truly receive at this facility. I'm honestly disappointed to be here writing this review as I was very excited about this facility,…read morebut I feel like people need to know. My dog went for a board and train to work on loose leash walking, basic manners, impulse control, things like that. I filled out a survey with my training goals and was told I'd have a call with the trainers prior to the start of camp so we could better define the goals. That call never happened, and my emails with additional questions were ignored. I was also promised regular communications throughout the week: two training updates and daily photos. My second update came over 24 hours late and my dog was rarely in any of the photos taken during play time. Upon returning home, my dog had not gained much in the way of new skills but had developed a severe increase in leash-related human reactivity, which has not historically been a problem for him. I can't definitively say that FFA and their training methods caused this directly, but it's pretty hard for me to think of another likely explanation. Especially since it has now begun to subside as more time elapses from his stay at FFA. I was told that FFA believes in only using positive reinforcement training, but looking at videos of what transpired at camp tells me that their definition of R+ is a bit creative. I saw them using leash pressure (a form of negative feedback, and NOT R+) in multiple different training scenarios, something I specifically asked about on the phone prior to booking and a staff member assured me that was not something my dog would encounter. Overall, I'm incredibly frustrated to have spent so much money on what could have been a great experience for my sweet dog, only to learn I unintentionally traumatized him. I'm now spending more money with my local trainer who is truly R+ to reverse the damage done at FFA and we are making great progress, but we should never have had to work on this in the first place.

Jim is professional and friendly, he takes her out for the time we agree to (past dog walking services have taken my dog out for only 8-10 minutes in spite of me paying for a 20-30 minute walk), he keeps me apprised of her activities by leaving notes, and he is always more than happy to accommodate our schedule if he can.
