Mix Poke Bar truck at the Point Ruston Farmers Market
    Monyca W.

This is a review for the Mix Poke Truck, which you can find at the Point Ruston Farmers Market in Tacoma on Sundays, and is associated with Mix Poke at Tacoma Mall. Basically, the concept is that you build your own poke bowl, starting with the base, adding two proteins, then sauces, mix-ins, and toppings. I really like the option to build your poke bowl on a salad, instead of the bowl of rice that is the default at most places. (The 4 options for a base are white rice, brown rice, salad, or chips, and I didn't really ask what kind of chips they had.) It's nice that it is so customizable! For protein, I chose tofu and spicy tuna. This spicy tuna is more like a ground tuna or tuna salad, not big chunks. My husband got the ahi, which is cubes of tuna. I looked at his, looked at mine, and said "Where's my tuna?" then I figured out that the sauce-looking stuff was actually the spicy tuna. My advice is to shop the market, stop at Mix Poke Truck (which is at the "end" of the market near the new Silver Cloud Hotel), get your poke bowl, then take a nice walk along the waterfront and find the perfect bench with a view to enjoy it. Because the poke is light and fresh, it really hits the spot and won't weigh you down on your walk. Recipe for a perfect day!

Located in Tacoma Mall.. in the food court. There are different sizes depending on the amount of protein (poke) you want. They have good amount of sides and add ons to add to the bowl, such as cucumbers, edamame, green onions, white onions, etc. They have few different sauces to add to the poke for flavor. I had salmon and tako (squid) with spicy cream sauce and shoyu. It was pretty flavorful and I also added crab& seafood salad. I would recommend it!

My cousin and I wanted to grab something quick and easy in the area, so we stopped by here. I got my poké bowl with white rice and tako and shrimp. I had it with the ponzu sauce mixed with one of their spicy sauces. They don't offer as many toppings and mix-ins as other places, but my poké bowl was still good. And it is a bit smaller than the bowls I get at some other places, probably because of the less toppings and maybe less rice. Staff was friendly. If craving poké, I wouldn't mind coming her again.

Mix poke bar is a conveniently placed build-your-own style poke stand in the mall, I enjoyed the food quite a bit! I will say I was disappointed to find that there was no salmon available, so I opted for ahi tuna and shrimp. The flavors are great and the person serving me was patient with me when I had questions and she was very cheerful. Another thing to note is that one way I judge poke places are based on how bad the chopsticks are, and I really appreciate them having some that aren't straight splintered sticks! The serving portion was fair for the price. I paid $13 plus tax for my food. My only complaint is that I wish there was a bigger variety of mix ins and toppings and I wish there had been salmon. I would like red onion and also some fruit like mango in my poke bowls to add a bit of sweetness to the very savory and umami flavors that they offer. Overall, it was yummy and I would return

Pretty good poke. They're fast too. I got the Ahi & spicy ahi with mix ins: sweet onion, cucumber & togarashi (spicy seasoning). Sides: avocado ($1.50), edamame, seaweed salad, krab salad, a little bit of ginger, furkikake and crispy onion. I feel like they could give a little more of the protein for almost $15 just for the bowl of poke. But overall pretty fulfilling and satisfying!

Hot and new! I hate to give it anything less than 5 stars but I have my reasons... Service-- I've been here 3 times and service is a hit or a total miss. The first time I was here, they didn't even have a yelp page. They were eager and attentive. Last couple times I've been here, they were eager to delegate the task to their coworker before walking away. It's as if I had totally inconvenience them to do their job. I wish I could just serve myself at this point but I'm sure that would violate a bunch of different health codes. Food-- pretty consistent as you can customize it to your liking Cost-- there are other cheaper options in this food court. But if you are craving poke, what can you do? Hopefully they step up their game soon. There are different food options available in the food court and around the mall that are willing to give you great and quick service. They have Ruby Thai next door passing out mango chicken samples and Sarku on the other side passing out chicken teriyaki samples competing to sell their food. Watch out Mix Poke!

Regular Bowl (with extra avocado since I am vegan!)

Great food truck at the Tacoma Farmers Market! I told the employees that I'm vegan & they make sure to load up my bowl with extra avocado goodness! Yum!

    Spicy poke I guess

Fish was NOT FRESH, any add ons will be mixed into the protein. I would not even consider this a poke bowl as Tuna was shredded, pink mixed with brown & had a fishy taste. Looks like a bowl of cat food, threw it straight into the trash.

    Poke bowl with two proteins

This poke place just opened up in the Tacoma Mall about a month ago. I usually will drive to university place to get my Poke fix from Poke Pop but this will likely be my new go-to. I got the two protein poke bowl with a mix of white rice and salad for my base. I like how he actually mixed the salad base with the proteins when he did the sauces. I basically got a little bit of everything, and the mix of flavors were delicious! The manager just happened to be there the night I came by and was the one who put my poke bowl together and made some awesome recommendations for me! I did feel like the portion size of the rice was less than what other places served but it was the perfect portion size for me! Will be back again! Will also say I waited at the counter for the boba tea side and the girl let me stand there for about 5 min while they were making drinks and didn't even acknowledge me. So won't be trying their bubble tea.

Finally tried out this poke spot in the mall (i typically go to I C Poke in the Towne Center - for convenience), and honestly, it wasn't too bad! we got the Xlarge portion and it's $16 which isn't too bad considering i'll pay around $15 at I C Poke for 3 proteins where Mix gives 4 proteins. The staff were super nice considering that it was abnormally busy (the stores and Mix said that as well) but we waited for about 5 min and she apologized for the wait but we didn't mind anyways we weren't in a rush. they give REALLY GOOD portions! the amount the fish and sauce they give out (i like my poke wet so i usually have to ask for extra sauce cause some places are super stingy with their amount they put on) are a lot, very generous. i couldn't finish my bowl. as usual they charge extra for avocado but you can also use one of your proteins for avocado but it's cheaper to get the large option for $14 and get avocado if 4 is too much for you and you chose avocado as one of your 4 choices. they don't charge extra for crab salad and their variety in toppings is decent. the rice was slightly hard and often clumpy so it must've been sitting in the rice cooker for a bit of time. i would have to use my chopsticks to break it apart more into eating it. at first it was fine since everything was evened out portion wise but more you eat just the fish, you see more clumps. one thing i would want changed is the size of the bowl when getting an xlarge, i like my poke mixed with the rice and it was kind of hard mixing cause the bowl was pretty much filled to the brim enough to touch the cover. would give it a try again! i also got 2 taro slush boba from the sip n spoon, i wasn't too much of a fan for it. tasted really of the powdered taro (yes i know most places use the powered type but most places use water to get the weird taste balanced). i wouldn't get this particular one again but i'm willing to try other of their drinks! the tapioca weren't too bad though.

Simple and delicious. Just how I like it. Got a regular poke bowl with tako and ahi and the House Shoyu sauce. Scoop of crab and seaweed salad and the ginger and wasabi on top. Service was welcoming and knowledgeable. Will be back Updated: Came back for Round 2. Upgraded to the XLarge poke bowl with tako, salmon, ahi and 1 scoop spicy tuna with salad and white rice. Got some creamy spicy sauce on top with the furikake! It was exactly how I imagined it to be! On top of that I grabbed a Mango Tea with Lychee Jelly from the drink shop next door. 5 stars for the awesome combo. Excited to see this quality of food in Tacoma.

When this place first opened, I was really excited to try their poke so I did...but did not meet my expectations. Tuna was not fresh and their sauce was off. The workers were not friendly at all. Well today I decided to try their macaroons Instead. I had the lychee ice cream macaroon which was good and the regular salted caramel and vanilla. The macaroons come in pairs in a plastic box. You cannot pick your own. They were also frozen. They told me to let it thaw for about 5 minutes. The ice cream is individual and bigger than the regular macaroons. Sometimes I do wanna try their poke again and see if things got better since they opened. I don't know why... but every time I come by, they workers seem unhappy. They don't have that friendly and welcoming attitude. They don't even smile.

Huge servings, everything tasted amazing and was fresh and quick. I got the two protein poke bowl and the honeymilk boba tea.

Poke and bobba in one?! What have i done to deserve this?!

My broth was pretty quality also, but could habe used a slight bit more flavor in my opinion. It was a creamy broth and most places keep it clean so its normal that I want more flavor from creamy broth. Lucky for me their spice is actually spicy.

Does it work? Sure. They have the most pleasant bathroom I've ever walked into with their subtle lighting. None of that florescent lighting, yay! What I really appreciate, as a mom, were all of the pirate toys for our little one to play with so we could eat. I don't think enough restaurants have figured out that little secret to welcoming families to your establishment. The poke though had a LOT going on, perhaps too much. I'm Native Hawaiian, who used to work in a fish market, and I love the taste of fish. I don't think it needs to be buried under a gagillion flavors. The sauces could definitely be toned down. The imitation crab and seaweed salad offered subtle flavors and the rice, garbanzo beans and edamame helped balance out some of the other stronger flavors but the toasted garlic and onions were too overpowering. While they do offer build-your-own bowl options, it seems the pricier options. May be easier to request things on the side. For the record, grated carrots do nothing for poke bowls other than add unnecessary texture. I'd avoid them completely.
