I've been a timeshare owner at Mittersill for 20+ years. To love this place is to understand its history - it was "the" place to go in the Franconia area during Hollywood's heyday - Queen Elizabeth, Bette Davis, Lucille Ball were some of the personalities who frequented the resort for their winter skiing. Has the resort seen better days? Sure! Does the staff do amazing things with the resources they have available to them? Absolutely! Would I recommend anyone looking to stay or purchase a timeshare in the White Mountains to put Mittersill on their list? You bet - this gem is a bargain when a comparison is done against other area timeshares. The staff is consistently stellar in their customer service skills. Granted, if you were to visit year after year as I do, you get to know the staff and that makes things a little easier - I have observed the staff going out of their way to act as concierge for guests, and offering suggestions for activities and dining locations. Between you and me, I'm not an easy person to please - I like things to be as they should be. When I check into my condo, if I see something is broken or missing, I contact the front desk immediately and they ensure the issue is taken care of. I'm very sorry for those of you who feel you have had service issues in the past - I don't know what to tell you. I've never had a bad experience in the many years I've owned at Mittersill.

We were nervous about booking a week here based on reviews but the location was perfect, so we took a chance. Our room was clean and had several fans (this resort doesn't have air conditioning). We didn't have an issue with this because we kept the windows opened and enjoyed the fresh mountain air. Our children (10 and 12) enjoyed the games room and we all enjoyed the outdoor pool. The people we met were friendly and the location was close to everything we had planned for the week. 30 mins from Santa's Village, 15 mins from Littleton (Chutters Candy store and Schilling brewpub), and a stone's throw from Franconia National Park where you can hike, swim and take beautiful pictures. We will be returning to this resort for many more vacations!

    Welcome to Mittersill Alpine Resort.

The food was a 6. Beverages were short. The flourless chocolate cake was flat. Bread pudding was average. Waitress was a touch pushy. But I think she was just trying to make sure we were happy. I do think their drinks are overpriced. Example: one shot of scotch was $15.00. There was a beautiful red propane stove in our suite that was inoperative. Unfortunately, there was a very noticeable septic smell throughout the Inn. I will consider other Inns when we return.

The towel holder was rusty, the lights didn't dim, and there was a TV mount with no TV. They stripped away the charming Victorian wallpaper and replaced it with plain paper (done diy again) because it was already peeling off. Dead bugs collected in the corners where they hadn't vacuumed. Worse, there was no heat because they hadn't turned it on yet! They gave me a space heater that was either too hot or too cold. The outdoor paddocks were cluttered with extra wood fencing, making the view from my balcony ugly and messy. No food service Monday through Thursday, and they replaced the once-fresh coffee and four-star breakfast with bagels and cereal. The tennis courts had grass growing on them, and the barn's broken windows and peeling siding looked neglected. Cold air and flies seeped in through window ACs, and they even took away the rocking chairs. The parking lot is in terrible condition--uneven, with water pooling everywhere, and no lighting, so you inevitably end up stepping in it! They took away the personal touches and charm. Shame. Horses were well fed and bed was very comfortable. Mia at the front desk was great.

Within hours of arrival, we were forced out of one filthy, unsafe room into another that was even worse. We encountered mold, broken fixtures, hotel doors with no lock, and blood-stained bedding on both the linen of all beds (what was stated to be possibly from drug users that frequent the location). Staff admitted the rooms were unfit yet failed to provide clean linens, stating cleaning service was unavailable and my wife and I would have to strip and remake blood-contaminated beds ourselves while our children slept in personal blankets in chairs due to the time of night. The situation escalated into harassment, dishonesty, and ultimately a police visit based on false claims made by staff (Kevin Jam). Management (Bija Patel/Vin Patel) upon discovering Jams harassment, mishandling, and misrepresentation of facts to Law Enforcement (which he was warned of) misrepresented their role, stating there was nothing they could do other than a 10% discount on our stay due to my family "being publicly humiliated in the hallway late at night". Upon departing, we contacted Best Western Corporate, they informed us although they utilize the Best Western name they do not recognize their affiliation. This property demonstrated severe health code violations, reckless staff conduct, and a complete disregard for guest safety and basic human decency. Avoid this hotel at all costs. When attempting a refund through Best Western they stated although the property utilizes the Best Western name they do not recognize their affiliation.

When we arrived this was not the case. The exterior upkeep is minimal. There is a smell of mold/must in the main house and in the cabin we booked. Lastly, the curtains did not close completely, leaving us feeling rather exposed. We left and stayed somewhere else last minute. Michelle, the innkeeper, has refused a refund. In response to your comments, we had several emails where I did list my complaints on the room. And I never received a phone call from you the next day. Your response is misleading. Regardless, I have never in my life left an online review before this stay which speaks to how strongly I feel. I realize I will not be refunded, although I disagree with your decision. I just felt I should share so people don't make the same mistake I made. Book here with caution.

She had put the heat on and a light on in our cottage so it was ready for us. Room was cozy and cute, as we expected. No fluff and relatively small but has everything you need including a microwave and small fridge. Bed was okay, not super comfortable if you have a bad back or anything like that, but fine since we were tired from hiking and passed out! Housekeeping services are not provided daily which did not matter to us, just something to note since that's important to some people. The grassy area walking from parking and the main building to the cottages is a little sandy/gritty, so the floor gets dirty quickly. Wish there had been a doormat to wipe our feet before entering our room to keep it a little cleaner. Every morning for breakfast Michelleprovides fresh fruit and some sort of super fresh and delicious pastry that she makes from scratch (we had cranberry orange muffins, coffee cake, cinnamon sugar doughnut sticks and cinnamon sugar/coffee cake topped muffins). That is just the start of breakfast! She makes you literally whatever you can possibly think of and doesn't even provide a menu - if you can think of it she can make it! Throughout our stay we had breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, French toast, pancakes, fried eggs, sausages and hash browns. She also even remembered after the first day that we liked ketchup with our hash browns and that I like OJ! We also ate here for a super late, small dinner one night and got Margherita pizza. The dough and sauce is home made which is why we got it! It was VERY cheesy, which can be good, but needed a little more sauce on it to balance it out. Quite tasty (although we're from NJ/NYC so we have unfair standards for pizza) and what we needed for a quick, late snack. Loved the fresh loaf of Italian bread when we sat down - again, of course, made fresh by Michelle. So doughy and warm that we actually ordered some large loaves to take home with us at the end of our stay.

Let me just say that the desk clerk was very nice, the room was clean, it seemed to be freshly painted, and your parking spot is right outside your door. The first thing to hit me was how small the room was. The second thing was the odor. My husband thought it smelled like beer but I didn't think so. It was just a musty odor that stayed in the room. Luckily we were there only one night. The bathroom is tiny and it appears the sink was removed and is in the bedroom. The lighting is very dim. At night I could hardly see to wash my face and do my skincare routine. The furniture is beat up and in fact, the top drawer of the dresser is missing. I did not sleep well at all. Admittedly I am a bad sleeper but the a/c was one of those where you're hot, then you're cold. The bed felt comfortable though although pillows were flat and hard and only 3. There is a lodge that looks like it was really nice at one time with a huge sunken in fireplace. Breakfast is served in there and consists of supermarket pastries, bagels, and cereals. I brought my own so no need to eat that junk. There was also fruit, juice, and coffee. The lodge also had that musty smell. We didn't use the pool so I can't speak to that. What really bothered me was the price of this room. I think with taxes it was about $150. $150???If this room had been about $60, I could have accepted the condition. But $150? Unacceptable! I think if you don't care about aesthetics and just want a place to sleep, it's fine. I just found it kind of dreary.

We arrived and were greeted by a very nice man at the front desk (not the owner), who gave us our key. When we came back from getting dinner, we found the owners setting up their beds in the game room, so we just kept our heads down and went to our room. The next day we found the owners in their PJ's cleaning a room, with the front desk guy. Very interesting sight. When we went to go check out the continental breakfast, we found a clutter of inadequate items laid out. We decided to just go get breakfast at Polly's pancake parlor down the street. The only good thing about this motel is the view and the little stream out back. Very nice place to hang out outside and just chill or have a fire. Attached are the photos outside our window.

My husband drove into Hillwinds Lodge and with big hopes and crossed fingers, he went in to see if they had any available rooms - rooms that didn't cost an arm and a leg. Much to our delight, the couple who run the place were very kind, light hearted and accommodating. Not only did they offer us a room with a view of the creek, they also honored the price of the room that expedia advertised from the "other" hotel. We are sitting comfortably in our room and cannot wait to get up tomorrow morning to see the view and enjoy the sights. This spot was perfect for everything that we wanted to do! The Inn is fairly small- probably around 9 or 10 rooms. There's a small stream nearby and if we didn't have so much to explore I could have spent hours laying on the hammock on the back lawn. The inside is equally impressive - it's got a very preppy feel and I felt like I was in a Polo ad. There are lots of cozy sitting areas, fireplaces and shelves filled with books and games. The actual guest room is spacious and the bed is comfy. It's an older hotel but you can tell there were updates. The AC works well and the shower has good pressure. Because of covid there is no daily room cleaning. There is also normally a bar and restaurant onsite but it's not open because of covid. But there is still a daily breakfast for guests included in the stay. Breakfast is sit down service every day from 8-9 and comes with eggs, fruit salad, an English muffin and a meat plus coffee and juice. Always delicious and filling! Staff is also friendly. We had the same server for breakfast every morning and she was very sweet. We also saw the innkeeper Doug around periodically and he was always super friendly and helpful. The rate is reasonable and the location is great. Your about a ten minute drive from Franconia notch / echo lake / cannon mt and around a half hour from mt Washington.
