This was a lovely place my husband and I stayed in. Gorgeous view as you can see by the pics I posted. This lodge as you can see is by a river (Gale river) . The room was very clean . The linen was very clean also (another reviewer had a problem with dirty blankets, apparently) There are chairs right on the walkway/balcony so you can sit and enjoy the view. On the bottom part by the river there are some picnic tables and a swing. It was very quiet. I have no complains at all. We did not have the breakfast there so I can't tell you how good or bad it was. We would definitely stay there again!

Very nice stay. Older and outdated but that is part of it's charm. Nice view and very nice staff. Really enjoyed our stay here and would go back anytime. Very relaxing. Love Franconia and the entire Franconia Notch area.

This spot was perfect for everything that we wanted to do! The Inn is fairly small- probably around 9 or 10 rooms. The hotel was pretty empty during our stay so we were upgraded to a room overlooking the lawn which was great. I can't say enough about the property. It's nestled in the hills and is just so serene. There's a small stream nearby and if we didn't have so much to explore I could have spent hours laying on the hammock on the back lawn. The inside is equally impressive - it's got a very preppy feel and I felt like I was in a Polo ad. There are lots of cozy sitting areas, fireplaces and shelves filled with books and games. The actual guest room is spacious and the bed is comfy. It's an older hotel but you can tell there were updates. The AC works well and the shower has good pressure. Because of covid there is no daily room cleaning. There is also normally a bar and restaurant onsite but it's not open because of covid. But there is still a daily breakfast for guests included in the stay. Breakfast is sit down service every day from 8-9 and comes with eggs, fruit salad, an English muffin and a meat plus coffee and juice. Always delicious and filling! Staff is also friendly. We had the same server for breakfast every morning and she was very sweet. We also saw the innkeeper Doug around periodically and he was always super friendly and helpful. The rate is reasonable and the location is great. Your about a ten minute drive from Franconia notch / echo lake / cannon mt and around a half hour from mt Washington. You can find lots of food and breweries ten minutes north in Littleton or twenty minutes south in Lincoln. We will stay here again without hesitation and I truly think it would be a beautiful and enjoyable visit during all seasons.

This year (2009-2010 ski season), the Horse and Hound is under new management and it is again one of the best apres ski and dining establishments near Cannon Mt. Don't be misinformed by the old website which is soon to be updated. The Hunt Room menu is comprehensive American Cuisine. The daily specials are a must. The portions are good. The lounge has great atmosphere, music, a well stocked bar, friendly service, free wifi (a big plus for the area) and big screen television. The area also has some of the best Alpine and Nordic skiing around. My wife and I have been there twice in as many weeks and we expect to make it a regular venue for the ski season.

Within hours of arrival, we were forced out of one filthy, unsafe room into another that was even worse. We encountered mold, broken fixtures, hotel doors with no lock, and blood-stained bedding on both the linen of all beds (what was stated to be possibly from drug users that frequent the location). Staff admitted the rooms were unfit yet failed to provide clean linens, stating cleaning service was unavailable and my wife and I would have to strip and remake blood-contaminated beds ourselves while our children slept in personal blankets in chairs due to the time of night. The situation escalated into harassment, dishonesty, and ultimately a police visit based on false claims made by staff (Kevin Jam). Management (Bija Patel/Vin Patel) upon discovering Jams harassment, mishandling, and misrepresentation of facts to Law Enforcement (which he was warned of) misrepresented their role, stating there was nothing they could do other than a 10% discount on our stay due to my family "being publicly humiliated in the hallway late at night". Upon departing, we contacted Best Western Corporate, they informed us although they utilize the Best Western name they do not recognize their affiliation. This property demonstrated severe health code violations, reckless staff conduct, and a complete disregard for guest safety and basic human decency. Avoid this hotel at all costs. When attempting a refund through Best Western they stated although the property utilizes the Best Western name they do not recognize their affiliation.

To sit in the pub, supping a decent pint whilst eating their beef shortribs (judging by their size they came from a bloody big cow!) cooked as tender and full of flavour as one could hope for and watching the sun set is as good as it gets in New Hampshire. But the star of the show is Dudley a delightful long legged old English sheepdog, who is soft and gentle but can also handle a good tug of war! He is a sweet heart and is one of the best meeter greeters that I have met during my years of travels. Dick and Sally who run the place are friendly and effusive hosts and plainly offer a very personal and hospitable style. Sue in the restaurant has a lovely smile and also was chatty and personal, and plainly works well with her chef. My partner had the salmon and roast vegetables which was delicious. Our bedroom was very comfortable, wonderfully clean and also very quiet.....what more can one ask? Well we also had a small but very enjoyable jetted tub. So when you stay do give Dudley a pat from me (he seemed pleased I was not a vegan).....and gently suggest to him that I will return for a rematch as he surely cannot keep those three balls in his mouth on every occasion can he?

The cozy feeling of having your own fireplace, nestled in the serene beauty of the white mountain area of New Hampshire, it truly is an experience. The owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. The location is very close to all the attractions the white mountains offer. Skiing and snow mobile trails. This is a wonderful location to stay at while your in northern New Hampshire. I highly recommend this lodging to anyone who wishes to get away and relax, but close enough to all the attractions to have a great time.

We had an indoor toilet/shower, heat, running water and electricity! To me that's a luxurious cabin. Not to mention the fireplace- that was perfect to have at night for just relaxing with a glass of wine, celebrating our new engagement. Although it's somewhat close to the road, we never heard traffic, and since it's such a rural area to begin with, there's not much traffic anyway. We truly felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. There are some cabins on the other side of the creek that are slightly more secluded for people who want that.

Check in was super…read moreeasy and she met us at the main building even though we arrived late, after normal check in hours. She had put the heat on and a light on in our cottage so it was ready for us. Room was cozy and cute, as we expected. No fluff and relatively small but has everything you need including a microwave and small fridge. Bed was okay, not super comfortable if you have a bad back or anything like that, but fine since we were tired from hiking and passed out! Housekeeping services are not provided daily which did not matter to us, just something to note since that's important to some people. The grassy area walking from parking and the main building to the cottages is a little sandy/gritty, so the floor gets dirty quickly. Wish there had been a doormat to wipe our feet before entering our room to keep it a little cleaner. Every morning for breakfast Michelleprovides fresh fruit and some sort of super fresh and delicious pastry that she makes from scratch (we had cranberry orange muffins, coffee cake, cinnamon sugar doughnut sticks and cinnamon sugar/coffee cake topped muffins). That is just the start of breakfast! She makes you literally whatever you can possibly think of and doesn't even provide a menu - if you can think of it she can make it! Throughout our stay we had breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, French toast, pancakes, fried eggs, sausages and hash browns. She also even remembered after the first day that we liked ketchup with our hash browns and that I like OJ! We also ate here for a super late, small dinner one night and got Margherita pizza. The dough and sauce is home made which is why we got it! It was VERY cheesy, which can be good, but needed a little more sauce on it to balance it out. Quite tasty (although we're from NJ/NYC so we have unfair standards for pizza) and what we needed for a quick, late snack. Loved the fresh loaf of Italian bread when we sat down - again, of course, made fresh by Michelle. So doughy and warm that we actually ordered some large loaves to take home with us at the end of our stay.

When we arrived this was not the case. The exterior upkeep is minimal. There is a smell of mold/must in the main house and in the cabin we booked. There was a swarm of flies in the bathroom on our arrival and the remains of flies/bugs in all of the window sills. The bed was not comfortable. Lastly, the curtains did not close completely, leaving us feeling rather exposed. We left and stayed somewhere else last minute. Michelle, the innkeeper, has refused a refund. In response to your comments, we had several emails where I did list my complaints on the room. And I never received a phone call from you the next day. Your response is misleading. Regardless, I have never in my life left an online review before this stay which speaks to how strongly I feel. I realize I will not be refunded, although I disagree with your decision. I just felt I should share so people don't make the same mistake I made. Book here with caution.
