I left my cat with family for a long weekend. She was not a happy kitty, didn't come out from under the sofa, wouldn't eat. Mittens Motel isn't elegant. It isn't pretty. The "apartments" are pretty basic, and many of the "guests" roam the corridors freely, but there was a feeling of comfort and care. The cats (except mine) were very friendly and seemed to be well-cared for. Mine, on the other hand, didn't share in the socialization, which I blame on the trauma that brought her there in the first place. Hopefully, next time, things will be a bit better for Skeeter. read more

Mittens Motel saved Max! He and his brother had been there a week and he stopped peeing. Some places wouldn't even have noticed, and he's a shy, nervous, hiding type. But they were paying attention and spending time on him, and they got him to the emergency clinic, then did meds and special care for another week. Even picked up the new food. He really, literally could have died, if all they'd been doing was feeding and sand box. They care so much about every cat in the place. I'm so, so grateful to them. read more

Mittens Motel was a life saver! We moved to Portland and could find no where that would allow us to rent with our cats while we looking for a home to buy. Brandi and Denise took care of our 3 cats for 3 months. Our cats were safe, loved and warm the entire time. The cat's motel room was spacious and clean and the cats were socialized each day, well fed and we even got email pictures and updates. Terrible place. I left my cat there for just one night and when I arrived the place was filthy and I'm not sure it is ever properly cleaned. It smells awful as well. The owners' cats just roam about free, sitting on the check out counter and dominating the place which seems rather intimidating for new coming cats. When I picked my cat up the next morning she was shaking she was so scared and that has never happened before when I've left her in a pet hotel. I was charged $10 for Sunday pick up (which I was not informed about ahead of time) when the owners don't work so I can only assume that they otherwise would not have even stopped by to check in on my cat for 24 hours if I had left her for longer. There are much better places -- I highly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I had to board my mom's cats here for a week as we were evacuated during the wildfires from an area near Sandy. They were extremely helpful, the first day that I brought them they were staying open late to take in cats from people being evacuated, and also offered to house them for free during the evacuation. You can really tell that they truly care about animals, the place was clean and all of the cats there seemed happy and healthy and well taken care of. They even texted me pictures of the cats while they were there, and offered to groom them! We picked them up after the evacuation area was lowered and the cats seemed perfectly happy, well fed and groomed. They insisted on not charging for housing during the evacuation and gave an extremely reduced fee for the grooming that they did (one of the cats needed some mats shaved off). It's obvious how much they care about the animals here and we will absolutely come back to them if we ever need to, they were so kind and helpful. read more

When your cat has bone cancer and spleen cancer, and you need to go out of town to visit elderly relatives, and you don't have any friends who have time to give your cat pills twice a day....Mittens Motel!! They're awesome and total life savers. My old cat Mercury Clarence loved this place...totally his home away from home. Brandy thought I was crazy for tracking in all the stuff I did, but I know my cat, and he loves his toys. I even brought a ladder so that he could get up to the high shelf in the room I chose for him. When your cat has bone cancer, falling is not a great idea. It was SUCH a relief for me to be able to have good care for him. And my cat absolutely LOVED it there. I was surprised that even though he hates other cats, he seemed to do okay with being able to watch the other kitties in their kennels. But I did caution Brandy about not letting him mingle with the other cats....he loves dogs, but he's never been too keen on other cats. And when Mercury passed away after having cancer for 3 years, Brandy just happened to have a couple batches of kittens, and so now I have Lightning McQueen!! He is the fastest cat ever!! And the sweetest, too!! Just what I needed to make me smile again. Thanks again Brandy!! read more

We have used Mittens Motel on several occasions. Brandy & Denise make sure our kitties are taken care of. One of them has to have a pill every day, and they expertly administer it to her. I was able to book the largest room for our 3 furkids at the last minute after seeing the super HOT forecast for the 4 days we'd be out of town. Drop off and pick up were a breeze and I was able to pick them up on a Sunday for only a $10 fee. The large room had multiple cat trees, a bed, and lots of hiding-holes for my scaredy-cats. We brought wet food, kibble, and some of their favorite toys from home. On the second day I received a text update on our kitties along with a photo of each one which I really appreciated. I had a very good experience with Mittens Motel. It was my first time having my cat stay at a daycare overnight, but the staff made it easy for me and my cat. The best part of my experience was the service. I got lost and called Mittens Motel, and they stayed open late to check in my cat. They didn't rush me when I filled out my paperwork, and took time to feed my cat and help her get comfortable. They were careful to make labels for all the items I brought for my cat and to put them in a safe place. I was really thankful that the staff took extra time to help my cat get settled in. The space was clean, and the rooms are pretty large. Cat trees in each room give the cats space to climb. The doors are made of wood and wire mesh, so cats can hear and see each other (which could be difficult for some cats.) But there are no dogs there, making this a better place for most cats. I came back to see my cat relaxed and happy. I give this place five stars for the service, and would definitely bring my cat there again. read more

This is the only home away from home for our cat, especially now that she is older and has some health concerns to keep an eye on. I have known Brandy for nearly 25 years from my veterinarian's office. Our cat hasn't always been happy with other boarding experiences, but we have complete confidence to leave town now that we see what a happy cat we get back. Every kitty gets daily personal attention and the special routines they all have are met. I appreciate the courtesy and flexibility that Brandy and Denise offer; early flight, late arrival, they always work with us to make it work. Despite a full house, we always feel like we are special clients who have their full attention. We won't go anywhere else besides Mittens Motel, and before they opened we tried them all from Salem to Portland. We highly recommend Mittens Motel and hope to use them again soon! Our cat recently spent 9 days here and they did a great job caring for him. He is very timid so we were nervous about leaving him. They sent pictures and updates which was very reassuring and he did just fine. I have used Mittens Motel several times without a problem. During my cats' latest stay, there was a miscommunication about being able to pick up my cats at the day and time when I wanted to pick them up. While it was frustrating not to be able to pick up the cats when I wanted to, the staff at Mittens Motel were really accommodating to find a time when I could pick my cat up, not charging me for the extra time they stayed and going beyond to make up for the misunderstanding. I plan to use Mittens Motel again when my cats need a place to stay away from home. read more

They kept wonderful care of my two kitties for four months. They seemed very happy to be there when I would come visit them. The staff let me know about any health concerns that came up, mostly with my one cat who sneezes a lot. We are very pleased with this facility and will bring our kitty back here in the future. She stayed for almost two weeks and seemed very comfortable when we picked her up. I love that the kitties are allowed to wander the facility if they're comfortable doing so, as I didn't want my cat to be locked in a cage the whole time we were out of town. We put our cats here as we were moving to Portland and unable to get into our house immediately. This place was AMAZING! They took excellent care of our cats and you could tell they love cats and make it as comfortable as possible for them! Within the first minute of being there I was totally relived that this is where we were leaving our cats. Think of it more like a cat resort/sanctuary than a boarding place. No cold, small steel cages; but nice, big, comfy kennel rooms and they are even let out to mingle with everyone else! I will definitely bring my cats here any time I need to board them! read more

The staff obviously care a great deal about the animals in their care, and the price is very reasonable. Having said that, the place smells of urine, and my cat contracted an URI while here. My father in law was turning 100 (!) so we had to go to Boston. I was VERY concerned about leaving my 17 year old cat who needs meds twice a day and is a spoiled, picky eater. She's also used to being outside most of the day. So, I checked out the "motel". It's shabby and kind of run down and it smelled. Nonetheless, the cats there seemed content, and the owners cats who are not caged seemed very loved and content. So, I chanced it, also the rates were low. I brought her and let her walk around inside. She sauntered like it was her kingdom. I brought stuff from home for her, and her meds, and her food (you bring your cat's food). I was very sad when I left, and called the next day from Boston. She was medicated, was eating, and they were letting her roam outside her little room. The second day it was the same. So I stopped calling and ultimately returned and picked her up, and she was fine!! I was SO RELIEVED!! I plan to use them again! read more

We discovered we had a conflict so could not use our usual in home care person and needed to find a place nearby for several days without a lot of notice. We were pleased with the facility and care our cat received. Everything was in order when we dropped our cat off and all the instructions clear. Place looked clean.
