Who doesn't enjoy chocolate. I for sure do. And this place didn't disappoint me at all. They had a very large selection of chocolate ina modest size store front. I would say the size was maybe 15x20 foot. But of course I didn't measure it. So who knows. I had the pleasure of talking to the owner of the shop. And he gave me more information about his family and business than I know I'll ever remember. But I did enjoy having that conversation. I will recommend this place to anyone I come across. It's a small business that has been around for a very long time. And they take pride in what they do. read more

This is a fun place to take out of town guests. While it is pricey, it's a cute little shop with delicious chocolates.

BEWARE - what a shyster! I went to this candy store about six weeks ago and had some delicious chocolate covered marshmallows. So delicious, I decided to get some for holiday gifts. On line you can order a 5 pc, 12 pc or 24 pc box. They are priced at 8.95, 19.95 and 39.95 respectively. My intent was to order 8 12 pc boxes. That would make my total $159.60 before tax. On line, I wasn't able to order for next day pick up so I went in to the store to purchase my order. I explained to the man who was waiting on me regarding my on line intentions and that I needed to look at my cart to give him my exact order. While we were in the store, my husband added a bag of non pareils for an additional 9.95 making my total $169.55 pre-tax. The man, who was seemingly an owner, rings me up at $227 and change. I expressed to him that I expected to pay about $160 for 8 12 pc boxes of marshmallows per his on line pricing. He said he had to charge me by weight because some pieces may be taller than others. I should have walked out of his store and left him with his 96 boxed up marshmallows and my $227. But I didn't. I am not a serial reviewer but when something this bad happens, I need to share this! I finally got to try one of the top-rated chocolatiers in the Cleveland area the other day. I was overwhelmed by the choices so the very kind and helpful staff offered me a sample of their most famous product, chocolate covered Italian orange peel. It was delicious but I was on a budget despite my cravings and bought a two-pack of dark chocolate covered pretzels Their chocolate is of very good quality, but the prices are very VERY high. A 4-pack of chocolate dipped apricots was $14! Don't get me started on the OUTRAGEOUS price-per-pound of their individual chocolates. I ate my chocolate pretzel pack the next day, as they melted the second I stepped outside the store and I had to put them in the freezer to harden back up. The chocolate was very high quality for sure. It had none of the bitter taste bad, cheap dark chocolate gets and the pretzel was crunchy and salty. I'm not sure if this is the best bang for your buck chocolate store in the area when buying large corporate gifts, but a nice truffle or two won't break the bank. read more

Extraordinary selection and service. I got a number of chocolates (in a dizzying array of shapes and styles). My mother and I went crazy for their turtles (pecanurtles) and I have repeatedly ordered them since we live in Chicago. She loves them in dark chocolate, I also like them in milk chocolate. Mitchell's location on Euclid Heights Blvd. was THE only place we would purchase hand dipped chocolates in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Having lived in Cleveland Heights for 5 years, Mitchell's has been a pretty frequent destination for me and my family. While the chocolates themselves are still better than most commercial chocolates, there has been some drop in quality in the past couple of years. What's even worse, perhaps, is a decline in the experience of going there. During my most recent visit the gentleman behind the counter (I think a co-owner) was curt, to the point of being overtly rude, to two or three customers. While he was serving the person in front of me, a woman (?co-owner) came out from the back and essentially yelled at him for mislabeling an order. Finally, after I selected my chocolates and paid (and the total price had seemed quite high) I inquired and learned that the total is based on the highest per-pound price, even if only one piece (of 20) is at that higher price. I also asked if there was any sign noting the pricing policy and told that no, there wasn't. Not a big deal, but after the prior events I have to admit it rankled me a bit. All in all, a disappointing experience. Sad, as I used to love this place. Am unlikely to shop here again. read more

TLDR; rude, snobby until I was rude back. not kid friendly. Okay chocolate. First time visit, we walked in to grab some ice cream for my daughter. They have HORRIBLE service. The cashier's name was Jason (according to receipt) and he was rude from the minute he saw my daughter and me. As I was purchasing ice cream and a bag of chocolate covered pretzels, my daughter dropped a plastic box of chocolates. PLASTIC. The chocolate never came out of the box. He asked for them (as if he was going to fix it) THEN He proceeded to charge me for it (WITHOUT TELLING ME)because she dropped it. I told him that I "didn't know what they were" and that I "did not want to purchase them". He responded that I "had to". I sarcastically responded "so these are inedible now??? (they were perfectly fine, literally still in the box!!!!) I was fuming that he just went ahead and charged something to MY credit card without even telling me that I was to pay for them. UNBELIEVABLE. So I told him I didn't want the pretzels and to remove them (since those were untouched). Once I was rude back, he apologized then and talked about how "Kid" friendly it was and how he gave tours in the back. He refunded me for the pretzels and gave us the ice cream for free. Heads up that this shop is not friendly for individuals with physical disabilities. As we walked in, the owner placed a sign in front of us that said "4 people only inside the showroom." There were 6 people shopping when we arrived... I'm not sure if the sign was for COVID or loss prevention, since he placed the sign without acknowledging our presence or explaining it. Unfortunately, my partner has physical disabilities and it became too painful to continue standing and waiting, and had to leave. Definitely a must-visit to satisfy your chocolate cravings! This place has something for everybody, from thrifty $3 bags of "oops" chocolates to elegant gift boxes. Shout-out to their dark chocolate; it has a nice snap to it with a deep cocoa flavor without too much bitterness one might expect. You really gotta try it. The chocolate is rich and smooth, with the dark semi-sweet being as good as I have had. While I enjoy the chocolates from Mitchell's, the owner leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. I witnessed another customer attempting to select an item for purchase, which, as it turns out, was only intended as a display item. But that was not evident. As she reached for the item, he yelled and "barked" at her, loudly and very inappropriately. I was struck with the feeling that I should speak up for her in her defense. Truly confused by the negative reviews about Jason, but I suppose everyone has a few off days. In my experience, this is everything you want a mom and pop shop to be. Jason, wife, and daughter were incredibly kind to me when I visited. They gave me the tour of the chocolate shop which was absolutely amazing. The chocolates, as universally agreed, are superb. If there is one thing that I thought really stood out about Jason is that he is absolutely PASSIONATE about the products he creates. He only tries to make the absolute best!!! Delicious chocolate! I have loved this store for years, under both the new and old owners. I moved out of the Cleveland area a short while ago but I still order shipments from here for gifts and celebrations (and some add-ons for myself, of course). My favorites are the fondant creams and the milk chocolate caramels with the black salt. Not sure why people are complaining that it is not kid friendly? Everything in there is so carefully made, packaged, and laid out--I think it would be obvious that your kids shouldn't be messing with things. They have always been so nice to me. I used to go in there and ask them to put together really specific combinations of flavors of fondants (and hem and haw about which ones I wanted) and they were always happy to do it. read more

This is the best chocolatier that I've been to in the United States. Their dark chocolate is so rich and the truffle combinations he develops are intoxicating. Moreover, the shop is inviting. The owner and his wife wants their customers to try new flavor profiles. Also they are very excited about pleasing their customers. In conversation I shared a story about a truffle I had at a candy shop in Chicago that was the best truffle I ever had. Unfortunately, that shop closed over a decade ago. The owner and his wife made a special batch of truffles for me. Their custom truffle is even better than the one that I had dreamed of for a decade. My partner and I live in Minnesota, and whenever we come to visit her family in Cleveland she always wants to come here. I went in with her today for the first time and was astounded and delighted by the beautiful selection of chocolates and candies. The owner was amazing to talk to and he treated us to a wonderful conversation about the shops 80 year history and his favorite things to make. If you get the chance, try the lemon white chocolate coated marzipan. Really. I've heard great things about this place and have stopped by twice now when I was in the area. Owner is a bit uptight but worse than that I've never seen him wear gloves when putting my chocolates in a bag. I don't know what his hands were touching before he handled the chocolate. Gross. The raisin clusters were amazing and I appreciate the offer of free hot chocolate but I won't be going back. The store is beautiful inside but slightly over priced. The chocolate covered strawberries that were delivered to us the other day sent by a friend as a get well gift we're amazing! The lady that delivered them to us was so nice. Unfortunately, I just called the store to place another order and did not receive the same experience. I want to start by saying two things, I love supporting small local businesses. I've grown up in Cleveland, my family owns a very successful business. One of the most important aspects to running our business is customer service. Secondly, I love chocolate and my three adorable kids love it too and they love going to candy stores for a treat. While on a family walk after dinner we decided to stop into Mitchell's for a treat. We had stopped in years ago and the owner was uptight. My husband and I never had the desire to stop again. When walking in tonight we could not believe how beautiful the chocolates were. My kids were admiring everything as well. My oldest who's a very well behaved child, picked up a small chocolate guitar that was wrapped and put his finger tip across the front. (Like he was strumming it) I didn't even notice, he was being very gentle and not wild. The owner then called out to him "do you want that??!" He asked him multiple times. At first we thought that he was maybe joking around, but then we realized that he was being nasty over a $8 piece of chocolate. Let me add that I would've HAPPILY bought it for him. It creeped me out so badly that I left the store. My husband purchased a few things because he already had a few things laying out to purchase. He wanted to be the bigger person in the situation. However, we agreed that the nasty owner put a damper on our night. I feel sorry for the owner of this store, he seems very frustrated. I would never patronize this place again. read more

NOT KID FRIENDLY! This evening my wife and kids went into Michell's to support a local business. At first the owner asked if we had been into the shop, and which time we said the prior owner was not pleasant. The current owner agreed, and said he was much more friendly. As I was talking to the owner, he repeatedly asked my son if he wanted the chocolate guitar he was playing with. My son was under the impression that he was being nice, when in reality he was being rude and insinuating that he better buy if he was to damaged the chocolate. My wife said she was leaving, and would rather support Malley's then someone who was rude to kids. Since he already scooped my sorbet, I paid for it and proceeded I leave. The owner said he was worried about fingerprints on the guitar through the plastic, that he hoped he didn't offend my wife, and that he hopes he didn't loose us as customers. Well.....yes he lost us as customers and I felt a need to let everybody he know that this owner values a stupid piece of chocolate, more then the value of a customer. It's hard to support this small business, when a guy like this is so short sited and petty about something by that might have cost him $.50 to produce. Nothing like walking into a candy shop only to be mocked in front of regular customers. We were looking at some of the cool chocolate molds when we were told not to hold them like a "corncob" then laughed at. Just sayin' a little more respect would have gone along way. read more
