On National Ice Cream Day, I stopped by local ice cream shop, Dairy King, right as they opened at 1:30pm. I tried their mango dole whip, before I settled on getting a flavor fave of mine - strawberry and vanilla swirl in a medium in a waffle cone. My soft serve was yummy and so refreshing! The medium size was huge! Next time, I'll get a small. I wish they would have provided me with more than ONE napkin! The ice cream started dripping immediately and I ended up so gross and sticky. I also wonder why cones of any kind cost extra. Normally, cake cones are free! And it is wild a waffle cone costs an extra $1.50! Great street side ice cream and custard stand, open during the warm months. Located right on Mayfield in South Euclid, they have parking in back and the spot is easy to get in and out of, even though it's on a main road. The line moved pretty quickly and they accept both cash and card. They serve vanilla, chocolate, and swirl soft serve, along with about 10-12 Pierre's ice cream flavors. They also have various flavored dole whips, hot dogs, pretzels, and chips. I got the banana parfait, which had vanilla wafers, real bananas, vanilla soft serve, caramel drizzle, and whipper cream. I subbed the caramel drizzle for a little strawberry sauce, however they layered the strawberry and put a little too on the parfait, it ended up being more like a strawberry sundae with bananas. It was still delicious and definitely satisfied that craving for a good soft serve. Places like this are dangerous, I'll be tempted to return often. Our go to for ice cream that's barely a drive from where we live. The service is usually very good and fast. We usually get the soft serve ice cream but I like to eat the regular ice cream sometimes. My favorite flavors are the strawberry cheesecake, fudge brownie and grasshopper pie. The only problem is that I wish that they were open all season. read more

Another good place for ice cream. Dairy King is small and locally owned. It has a walk up window and a few tables. Good service that's fast and friendly. They always seem busy but they do a good job. Basically this is an ice cream stand with some tables to sit at. It doesn't look like anything special. They have frozen treats or hot food if you would rather have that. Most people come for the ice cream. They have several flavors of Dole Whip. It's about $2.75 for a medium cup. The flavors rotate daily and include lemon and pineapple. It always has a line in front. Small town, locally owned ... Love it here! Sure, it is not fancy and you cannot have a seat but with these COVID times, that's fine with me! I apologize for only now posting a review when I have been getting my ice cream fix from here for more years than I can recall! Park wherever you find a spot and walk up to the next available red line painted on the ground to help maintain social distancing. The menu is on the inside wall, but there are window postings as well... Although most patrons know it by heart! Well priced, they offer a huge assortment of ice cream delights but also typical "Dairy Queen" items like, French fries and hot dogs. Operated by masked, friendly staff who keep the line moving. You order from the left window and pick up from the right. I seriously doubt you will ever have a bad experience here...they take their customers to heart. Orders must be placed at the window nearer Francis Court and pick up is at the driveway window. Walt Disney World - Move Over!! One of my favorite Disney "treats", the Dole Whip is now available locally! Dairy King has the traditional Pineapple Dole Whip, along with another of Dole's fruit flavors every day! It is the real deal, same great flavor, and about 1/2 the price. This is a must try for those who haven't had one, and for those who love it, this is much closer than Orlando! Someone rolled in to open the shop at 12:10...two cars were waiting in the parking lot. I didn't get my ice cream until 12:25, after 15 minutes of waiting for the two orders in front of me. This place takes me back to the Mom and Pop ice cream places that were only open in the summer - usually near a ballpark - when I was growing up in the suburbs. They offered soft serve in a variety of ways (I love the crunch cones) at prices families and teams can afford (FYI, if a bunch of people show up wearing matching team uniforms, they get a discount). Okay, this was my second trip so it was time to jump all in. Some background. Just recently relocated from Rhode Island, small state just south of Massachusetts. RI has lots of great soft serve places and one of the best ice cream places in the US. But, we are just discussing soft served for the moment. So first trip in to Dairy King we were all really happy with the product, but wondered if it was just a fluke or 'first timers' thing. So we want back. The wife got the same order, control group and all. I got an advertised Banana Split for $1.35 and a chilli bog for $1.00. I am going to tell you that we were both extremely happy with our selections. The chilli dog is awesome and can not be beat. I am just telling you don't hold back because it is a ice cream place. The small banana split...well Bloom. It is actually the perfect size when you add the chilli dog. It comes in s cup with everything you expect. Sliced bananas, chocolate sauce, strawberries and sauce and pineapples if you want. And for $2.35 I dare you to find a better deal. However, there are no burgers. Just hot dogs, fries, and onion rings on the savory side of things. I got an all beef hot dog with chili and cheese. The chili was runny and the cheese was "cheese sauce". But, the dog was pretty good. Next time I'll get it with just ketchup and mustard. I also got a cookies and cream earthquake (like a blizzard). Never mind that I ordered chocolate chip cookie dough (cookies and cream was my second choice, anyway). The ice cream was pretty mediocre and left me wondering if all the ice cream I loved as a child tasted this bad! I might just be spoiled by all the Mitchell's I've been eating lately. Strange experience. First time customer. I ordered a small vanilla cone which was $2.25 and handed clerk a $5. He didn't give change - just went and got the cone which was the wrong flavor. Who likes driving down Mayfield Road-almost no one! However, having passed Dairy King for years with their advertised $1.25 banana splits and a line outside their walk up windows in the summer always put a smile on my face and makes the trip bearable. For whatever reason I had never stopped there until this past month and I am glad to say, the visits have continued. My family and I have only tried the banana splits, we feel why mess with perfection. They are the perfect size and you still get all the toppings, hot fudge, pineapple and strawberry sauce, whipped cream and of course bananas and vanilla ice cream-you can add nuts as well. For those of you who may think there is no parking or places to sit, this is not the case. There is parking in the back and tables and benches too. So far, all the faces we have seen there are smiling, so consider stopping in on your next trip down Mayfield, I promise it will make it better. read more
