Though I've never been to Sweet Bean, I've had the pleasure of tasting their chocolate at events around turn. I stopped by Cleveland Whiskey for their Whiskey and Chocolate pairing event with Sweet Bean. I enjoyed myself. The pairings were great. I'm biased towards the Honey Penny and Lavender truffle combo but they were all delicious. Normally I'm not a fan of cordial-like truffles but the Luxardo truffle was so good. TOO PRETTY TO EAT!! I met Kristin, the owner, on Thursday evening (05/13/2021) at Sweet Bean, a chocolate shop in the Collinwood neighbourhood of Cleveland. She opened up her chocolate shop in February 2021. Prior to opening, she managed her sales online. I talked with the owner about how she started her chocolate business after she worked in Marketing in Corporate America. She never grew up wanting to be a business owner but it became an idea one day. Thanks to Yelp Cleveland, I discovered this small business that seems to be growing fast. Currently, it is just Kristin who manages the business which include online orders and in-store purchases. He husband and helps her on occasion on weekends. CHOCOLATES -- I bought the 4-pack which is a bit pricey at $12 but considering that these chocolates are hand made, the price was fair. I choose 3 milk chocolate flavours and 1 dark chocolate one. I hate dark chocolate but I wanted to still give it a taste. I definitely preferred the milk chocolate ones and my favourite was the strawberry flavour. While these small chocolates are made fresh, I was surprised to learn that there was artificial flavouring inside. I wouldn't have expected this for speciality and sort of gourmet chocolates. But, this is a one woman business so I'm sure it is hard to have all natural chocolates. There is a special flavour of the month every month and that flavour is chosen from a poll on the business facebook page. A customer decides what flavour he/she would want and then the best flavour wins. The winner of the flavour of the month gets to come into the store to be the first to sample the flavour. BAKE SALE - They have a family bake sale every Saturday where members of the owner's family bake brownies, cookies, etc and the money goes to a local charity. INSIDE -- The inside of the store is quite spacious but there isn't much seating besides about 3 bar stools at the counter. I loved the yellow sofa/couch though. If you are ever in the Collinwood neighbourhood of Cleveland, then stop by Sweet Bean. I was told that E. 185th street has alot of new businesses that have opened since the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. P.S. I heard that the "Sweet Bean" name is from the owner's dog that died. The do's name was "Bean" I believe. I've followed Sweet Bean for years since discovering them at Akron's Northside Marketplace a long time ago and am thrilled to see them expand. Kristin hand paints all of her luxurious chocolates. They come in totally unique flavors and she takes so much pride in creating original chocolates that, in my opinion, taste totally distinguishable from any other Cleveland chocolatier. What's better than chocolate?!?! The answer is... almost nothing! I have a serious obsession with chocolate, and always have a piece everyday... but alas all chocolate is not created equal. Some are far better than others and Sweet Bean's are amazing! Hand made in small batches... with interesting and unique flavors! I first experienced these delectable pieces of heaven in a yelp event last year! I was hooked. In December i bought some to give as part of a gift for my mom... which she loved... also let me have a try so i also enjoyed... absolutely wonderful! What makes the chocolates so amazing is like i said the unique flavors it has. For example in the yelp event, i tried milk chocolate, rosemary, salted caramel and spicy Thai peanut, while the holiday ones i bought for my mom were peppermint, egg nog, gingerbread and salted caramel. I stopped by Sweet Bean around 3pm on a Wednesday! I heard a little history from Kristin on how she opened her shop. I also love that every now and then, she lets customers create a flavor and whoever comes up with the best idea gets to try for free! This adorable store sells the cutest chocolates! At $3+ a piece, it may seem to be on the pricey side, but all of these are handpainted, which is a time-consuming process. They have some really interesting flavors, such as orange tea ginger and rosemary. My favorite was the cinnamon bay, but everything else was also tasty :) read more

Oh LORDY do we have some amazing and quite beautiful chocolates here! So I was blessed to have had a wine pairing with 4 fantastic truffley goodness! There was Sea Salt dark chocolate, luscious and it had just the right amount of salty oomph. Next up was the unusual Rosemary and cream version. What the what? Did I say Rosemary? Yes and WHO KNEW how delicious and unique that is. One of my two faves was the Thai spice which I may or may not- have had a dream about last night. It has a nice little spice kick in there - enough heat for those who like a little surprise amongst the creamy peanutty goodness. Speaking of that... the last one was the salted caramel. Holy smoke-my fave fave. Where has this been all my life? A virtual flood of extra creamy goodness wrapped in just enough salt to satisfy the savory/sweet in all of us. Ooh lala! Hold that thought... Now, as far as presentation, these are little works of art. They are BEAUTIFUL. Each one lovingly crafted and designed. This is an IMPRESSIVE gift for the holidays. I was certainly impressed when I got this and opened it up! I almost didn't want to eat them because I was admiring them, they looked like little planets! One of them was so lovely it looked like it was swirled in enamel. I love the fact that Sweet Bean was named after this husband and wife team's resident pupper who resembles a bean (can you say AWW WIDDLE PUPPER!) Sweet Bean is a wonderful chocolate shop in Collinwood. My wife and I wanted to provide bonbons for our wedding in August'22, and Kristin was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process. She hosted a fun tasting session where we were able to try different flavors and see color combinations, then took our feedback and made samples before we locked in a flavor. The boxes were customized for our wedding and the hand-painted details got rave reviews from our guests.
