Malleys will get a 5 star all day every day. I've been going here since I was a little kid. Back when I was in Jr High we would walk to Malleys on our last day of school. Lots of memories. There chocolate is out of this world. Ice cream is perfection. Everything from fudge to sour or sweet candy is on point. The staff is ALWAYS friendly!! Clean environment. I tried to grab an ice cream cone from the parlor at around 4pm on a Sunday. Although the sign said the parlor was open until 9pm that day, the employees told me it was closed. I really hate to say this but I've never walked in to a business where all the employees were hostile with the customers. No Hello when you walk in. No help offered. There were 5 woman standing there behind the counter having their own discussion.. one was giving my daughter the death stare then rolling her eyes at the other employee, as I saw another customer walk in, the eye roll again but from all 5 of them. As though the customers were anoying to them Just ignorance. It was about 11am. It made my daughter feel very uncomfortable she wanted to leave so we left Imediately.. Im not a local so maybe this is just the norm. If it is I'm surprised they are in business. We were planning to fill up an empty suitcase as gifts for our family and friends back home in California. You can do better Malleys. Maybe take lessons on how to hire pleasant workers, Because what you have now scare away customers .. we were visiting all over the Cleveland area eating at resturaunts from Chagrin Falls to downtown Cleveland for three weeks, No one ever had an attitude like what we got at the Malleys in Mentor. read more

Best place to go if you need to get both chocolate and ice cream. It has a lot to choose from. Malley's has a location in Mentor. Chocolates are in the front. The ice cream is in the back section. Everyone says this is a Cleveland staple and it is. It has several locations and this is one of the few that also serves ice cream. The chocolates come in so much variety. From wrapped candy bars to upscale boxes. The prices usually are pretty good. It has some expensive things but some things are cheaper. The ice cream flavors can vary. Often these are listed online so you can know before going. They also have a few sorbets. It's $2.25 for a scoop in a cup. This isn't cheap ice cream but this is good quality. It has great quality whether it's chocolate or ice cream. Locations can vary in selection so check online. This location has indoor seating. read more

Every time we visit Cleveland.. we make it a priority to bring back Malleys! We bring it as gifts to friends/family in Florida pretty much every time! Those chocolates are more important than my luggage! The chocolate covered pretzels are of course the fan favorite and their signature item! We also love the chocolate covered Oreos and the individual pretzel crunch bars too! They have such a nostalgic feel when you walk into the store-it's funny but we have never gone for dessert! Malley's is a Cleveland staple when it comes to all things chocolate. This location is bright, clean and spacious. Usually well stocked. The gourmet chocolate case has a wide variety of truffles and more avant garde items such as my favorite chocolate covered orange peels. They have an amazing ice cream parlor in house, too. My only gripe is the large amount of teenage employees during the evening shift that literally lean around the counters and gossip. Zero effs given, had to ask for something out of the gourmet case like I was interrupting their all important conversation. Big turn off. Ya got time to lean, ya got time to clean! read more

This place is great!! As soon as you walk in, you are hit with the lovely smell of chocolate and ice cream. They have a variety of chocolates, fudge, ice cream etc. I had a simple sundae. It was vanilla ice cream, with hot fudge and Spanish peanuts. The ice cream is delicious and it paired nicely with the Spanish nuts. Spanish nuts have that skin that make it all so yummy! I stopped in here for a gift - when I saw on yelp that it was a "Cleveland staple" I had to go here! Everyone was very friendly from the time I entered. I looked around at some of the prepackaged gifts but decided instead to build my own "basket". I picked up a reusable bag (I think it was about a dollar) and started finding browsing the products. The gift was for a group of 10 people, and I figured they'd have all different tastes, so I got a little bit of everything. And I have to say, they were ecstatic! One of them was from Cleveland originally, so they knew what it was as soon as they saw the bag. Everyone else got excited as they pulled item after item from the bag... Fudge, chocolate covered fruit, chocolate covered pretzels, taffy, truffles, cheddar popcorn, caramel corn... A little bit of everything! And the best part was it wasn't outrageously expensive. I maybe spent $40 for a bag of treats. This is definitely where I'll be stopping in, if I'm in Ohio again and have a craving for chocolate. read more

We came to Malley's for after-dinner hot fudge sundaes. While there are many ice cream flavors from which to choose, I go for classic vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and crunchy pecans. The components are served separately, and you assemble and eat as you like (unlike other establishments that hand you a sundae with ice cream melting on top, causing you to eat the affected portions first, and eventually leaving you with a glob of cold fudge at the bottom of the glass). You can take home a jar of fudge, a bag of Sweet Slips (seconds sold at a discount), box of Billy Bobs, Nutmallow, or Gold Crown chocolates, etc. There are seasonal items throughout the year (the jelly bunnies available at Easter time are very yummy!), and often there are special offers. Malley's also offers a discount card/club, and although it costs something like $10, it gives you access to discounts and specials. If you find that you have purchased too many goodies, please know that you can drop your extras off at my office; I will take care of them. read more

Simple and NOT sweet! I don't even think they use chocolate, I'm pretty sure its a chocolate flavored coating. The Ice cream is flavored with very generic artificial flavoring, and taste like it. I would give this place 5 stars alone just for the Nutmallow and Billy Bobs. Those of you not familiar with this Ohio treasure should go online and buy a box of one of these treats to have shipped to your home. The nutmallow is a big tray of marshamallows and walnuts coated in thick dark or milk chocolate. The Billy Bobs are fantastic pecan turtles. The chocolate bars with pretzel bits are also always a hit. If you are in Ohio you should stop by a Malley's and pick up a bag of "sweet slips" which are the bon bons and other treats that don't pass the visual inspection for perfection but are still just as delicious as their perfect cousins. This location in Mentor has never as far as I can tell been busy which is sad because their ice cream treats are fantastic. The decor is all pink and green per Malley's colors with a neat little gazebo in the corner. I did note that there were 2 tables that needed to be bussed when we came in with 6 staff members and no other guests, but other than that the service was great. As you can see from the picture I posted the best thing about their hot fudge sundae, aside from the awesome hot fudge sauce, is that the sauce is served warm on the side so you can choose how much you want your ice cream to melt in with the sauce. Nuts are served on the side too. I ordered the "child's portion" which was a perfect 1 scoop size, the "adult" portion is 2 scoops of ice cream and as far as I can tell, the same amount of chocolate. They have a whole menu of other sundaes and ice creams as well as old fashioned ice cream sodas and "phosphates." read more

Not to hurt the feelings of anyone from Ohio or squelch the belief that Malley's is good chocolate, I stand today, on my soap box, screaming loudly, albeit i not so proudly, "This is just bad chocolate and we are not going to take it anymore!" For those of you who like this, I wonder if you are the same people who think a Hershey bar is also good chocolate? I have had their chocolate on numerous occasions, and each time I sit there in disbelief, shaking my head curiously and wondering who thinks this Dreck is good? It is exceptionally sweet and at best a step above the chocolate you find at every convenience store for .75 cents. My two experiences with the pre-packaged chocolates were followed by snide remarks from family members asking me if what i gave them was a re-gift from the prior Christmas, and that the chocolate was old and stale. Although a staple in Ohio for their chocolate, the only thing I would recommend is the bumper sticker. read more

I grew up with this little Malley's Chocolate and ice cream shop, although I will say I've never been a big chocolate fan. We always went for the hard-packed ice creams and warm fudge and caramel sauces. Yes, I realize that fudge=chocolate, but for some reason when this glorious stuff runs down your sundae nothing can keep you from eating it. Anyways, I really haven't had a reason to visit a Malley's recently, but I needed to bring a little Cleveland treat to my co-workers for our regional trip to DC. So, I stopped in and with the help of a couple of teens, I found a large box of buckeyes and a smaller box of some sort of toffee/chocolate/almond bark to pack along in my luggage. The service was pretty OK, while the teens didn't know really how to help me. But I can't really make a full-on judgement since I came in for a simple transaction. Open the door to Malley's and the heavenly scent of chocolate wafts through the door. You are greeted by pink and green decor and immediately notice the green gazebo. If its free and you have a group larger than say 2 people, go ahead and sit there...somehow it makes the ice cream taste better. Malley's has some fantastic ice cream sundaes, but my favorite is the one with their pink peppermint ice cream. The warm hot fudge sauce completes the experience. I'm full and probably should be rolled out of the store, but oh no I have to get up to pay the bill and gaze longingly at all the delicious goodies for sale in their store. Yes, these Malley's folks are fantastic marketers because you have no choice but to see all their chocolatey wares and make a purchase. I swear they must put something in the ice cream. Malley's only gets 4 stars because the service here is sporadic. I came here in the middle of winter and there were empty tables that needed to be bussed. No one approached us for a good 10 minutes (other people were being served) and at that point we sadly just left. All in all its not going to stop me from coming back here though. Got a few different things to sample and they were mediocre at best - honestly not as good as what you get for a fraction of the price from the grocery store. There will never be a visit to NE Ohio that doesn't include a stop at Malley's. There's no other chocolate like it. And it's a family tradition that goes back many many years, which I have made into a tradition with my own Ohio expatriate family. I had a problem with a box I bought the other day. I found the chocolate had gone white. It may have been partially my fault for leaving it in the car. However, the clerk was really attentive, and was able to exchange me a new box. The only problem I have is that the boxes come prewrapped in seasonal paper. Which is probably no concern to anyone in the world but me. But I think it would be far more efficient to offer an equal quantity of inventory shrink-wrapped in plastic. I mean, the Malley's logo on the cream box is iconic! Recognizable from a distance! I feel like Malley's is really missing out on an opportunity to capitalize on their reputation. Not to mention the added comfort of a tamper-evident packaging. The guy I worked with today kindly rewrapped the box I bought with a less specific paper and gave me a Malley's shopping bag to use as a gift bag in lieu of a more visible logo on the box. I have been coming to Malley's since I was a child. I have fond memories of eating in the gazebo after dance recitals and school performances. The hot fudge sundae with the fresh hot fudge on the side is a classic. I have ordered many of these. The decor is still very 90's, but I enjoy the nostaligia.
