They have two playgrounds, one for younger kids and one for older kids. It has a trail that goes along a wash so you can see some birds and have some good views of the mountains. As always, in Arizona, you have to be aware of your surroundings. I imagine when it gets warmer. I'll be more snakes..... If you stay in the park proper, there's not as much risk for kids wandering around..... The restrooms were clean, and there were some  nice picnic areas.

The only reason this spot gets 4 stars instead of 5 is due to some of the playground equipment (the larger slide) being broken for a while. Other than that, it's a nice, quiet place to let your kids run around or have a picnic in the sunshine.

The worst part is that a majority of the old tall trees are all dead from lack of water. What a shame and what a disservice to our community. There are bird's nesting in the baseball field lights. Maybe this is true of all baseball fields, but I've noticed these. This year it's a pair of ravens, but last year hawks were living there. There are two dog enclosures, one for small dogs. I don't have a dog, but it makes for distracting dog/owner-watching as you walk the track. It is bounded on two sides by an enormous Oleander hedge, and on a third side by an open lot that dips to a wash with a lovely bridge linking it to the neighborhood and further, to a cross-walk on Kolb. Vermilion Flycatchers hang out here, which are pretty entertaining to watch as they catch insects on the fly and return to their perch http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermilion_Flycatcher It's a great place for a picnic.

The dog park is partitioned into two separate areas based on weight. One area is designated for dogs that weigh greater than 30 pounds and other area is for dogs that weight less than 30 pounds. Each respective area has its own grass and dirt fields. For the large dog area, the dirt field measures 100 x 50 feet and the grass field measures 100 x 85 feet. There is a water spigot with community bowls, three seating areas, several community toys/balls, a few built-in obstacles, and lighting which allows the park to be open until 10pm. This dog park checks off all the boxes but I do wish there was more shaded area. At the end of the day, a dog park is only as good as the behavior of the dogs and their owners. I've only had positive experiences.

Youngsters were playing basketball, swinging and tossing Frisbees. There were a few families picnicing. while others walked dogs. It has a nicely paved path, and when the path is busy with people (yes, we are taking distancing seriously), there are some unpaved trails that connect around the perimeter too that we can duck out on to. The paved trail is very well kept, and on our last visit, we noticed that the park employees actually go so far as to blow dust, dirt, and debris off of it periodically too. The entire loop is about 0.75 miles, so we do a few laps, and it's a peaceful experience. The dog parks (there are two) here are pretty cool, too. They get lots of use, and they seem to be very clean. We've never seen anything but dogs having fun! McDonald park also has LOTS of baseball diamonds and grassy areas, which is awesome because we enjoy tossing the softball around. We go at off hours, so we never run into organized games, so there's always plenty of space for us to play. We also use the basketball court often, which is paved nice and smoothly, and the net definitely has been replaced when needed. There are lights on the court, too, so play during dusk is possible. The park also features a playground that is almost always being used when we're walking around or playing ball. I'm not sure on its upkeep, but the rest of the park is clean all the time, so I'd say it's probably fine too. Something that some people may not notice, but I do, is that there are lots of garbage cans throughout the park, even a bunch on the walking trail loop. No excuse to litter and muck up our beautiful natural spaces! This is a really great park with a lot of amenities (even bathrooms). It is well taken care of. The verandas and picnic table areas, as well as the parking lots, very rarely have any trash around. And the trash cans are mostly empty. Everything seems to be in working order, and if it's not, it is by our next visit. The staff here does a really great job!

There is one small little sign on Mona Lisa saying,…read more"Northwest YMCA Park" but its better to look for the unmarked street that has two of those traffic yellow pole gates that swing over the road to lock you out. Its hard to see the park from Mona Lisa Rd. It is located near the Magee intersection and on the West side of Mona Lisa Rd. The parking lot is huge for a park of this size. There are two restrooms and a water fountain. There is one very large soccer field and at least one ball diamond maybe two. Plenty of room to fly kites, run your dogs, etc. The playground is really small but very new, only 2-3 yrs old. There are no swings, but plenty of slides, a mini climbing wall and other climbing things to get up to the slides for the kids. And there is an exercise area. Two sets of overhead "monkey" bars for adults, three pull-up bars, two sit-up benches and three balance beams.
