I'm certainly not new to bikes and needed a quick fix (i was visiting a friend and had no tools on me). He takes a quick look at it and tells me I should most certainly dump it and get a new one. Something I happen to know as utter rubbish. I won't go on a rant about that situation. Long story short, a less knowledgeable costumer would've done what he suggested, and spent a fortune on a new bike. That is not costumer service and, quite frankly, a fairly dishonest thing to do. Like I said, bar that guy, the shop is great.

I took the bike to sprocket and asked about replacement if they could get it out. The staff were very helpful and when I said it might not be possible to save the frame, out of curiosity they put the bike straight on the shop stand to have a proper look at it. Minutes later I was walking out with a brand new bottom bracket installed. Very impressed. Reasonable prices. These guys love a challenge.

Yes - I could fix it myself but I am lazy and my bike is 50 years old so figured I'd just get a quote and see if someone professional could give it a once over. Not sure who I spoke to at Sprocket but he was very helpful and quoted me £28 for the same job. What a nice guy! I'll be taking 'Star Rider' (yes) down for a service very soon! As well as acting as a gathering point for Oxford cyclists, and a distributor of information on safe cycling, they provide a membership scheme. For an annual fee of £9 (£6 for the unwaged), you get free workshop access and support, a dividend card which allows you to collect point on all items in stock which build towards discounts, discounted Introduction to Cycle Maintenance Courses, one-on-one training, access to further courses such as wheel building, and a monthly e-mail newsletter.
