He coordinated all new plumbing and electrical re-wiring (with a licensed plumber and electrician), made suggestions when we were trying to mitigate a fast-paced decision making process, and executed the work on-time and on-budget. I have worked with bad contractors, and I have worked with Mitchell Custom Concepts. I will never trust my home to anyone other than Mitchell Custom Concepts again. We bought a fixer upper in 2008, and immediately hired a contractor to update our bedroom and bathroom. They burned us, and left us with leaks throughout the house. We ended up finishing the project ourselves, but not aware of some of the leaks and damage left behind. After this experience, we were hesitant to try again, hearing so many other peoples horror stories of their own with contractors. Finally the leaks became too much, and we needed to address them as well as move on with construction of our home. We were referred to Zephyr, and after his recent completion of our kitchen, we have already asked him to put us at the end of his list for our next project. What it will be, we haven't decided yet. But we have a whole house for him to repair, so we have something that needs to be done no matter what the order of repair is. Zephyr is very straightforward, and he is a perfectionist. He will give you advice along the way, and you should listen to him. He ripped out our kitchen, found multiple issues with leaks coming from our bedroom above (where the previous contractors installed french doors improperly), so he addressed that by taking out the doors and installing a new wall with windows. He replaced all our support beams in the kitchen, as well as added support so that we could build out on the 2nd floor. We told him our goals for the house in the long run and he prepared the house for those projects while working on it now. For example, we want to add a bathroom to our bedroom, so while he had the walls ripped open, he planned where the pipes would go and built enough room in that wall so that his next job would be prepped. Zephyr said he would have our kitchen done in 2 months and he delivered. Mitchell Custom Concepts may give you a higher quote than other contractors around, but they are worth every penny. Your project will be done properly, and by people who know what they are doing. Zephyr's whole team is great to work with. Whether Mike or Ian are at your house finishing something up, you can rest assured you are in good hands. Zephyr's vendors he uses for windows, floors, materials are all vetted and you know you will get quality materials/work from anyone he uses. We especially love our floors. Zephyr had his floor guy come in to sand and lacquer our floors, and I am beyond happy with the result. Before Zephyr and his team worked on my home, our basement would flood with 1-3 inches of water during rainstorms. Now, we don't get any standing water at all. Zephyr understands that your house is an investment, and he will address your biggest problems first, then work his way out. With us, he addressed all our leaks before we did any cosmetic work. I live on a pretty nosey South Philly street where all my neighbors watch whats going on with the rest of the neighbors all day long. Well, all I heard from my neighbors was "Your contractor was bringing in big pieces of lumber today. You must be getting a lot done!" Like another reviewer...I've worked with contractors before, both on my personal homes and a condo in a downtown building, as well as investment properties. For this job, it's my home, and the addition of a bath in a 100 year old typical row-house. The addition of the bath and shower turned into other needed work as well of course.... Zephyr turned our cocktail napkin thoughts into an actual plan that fully utilized the space. And the new addition is nicer than the master....he's diligent and clean (essential in a renovation), works with you and is fair on pricing. Not the cheapest - but quality is not cheap, especially with these older homes. When plaster comes down, and it's not what you expect behind the wall, he makes it work. Unlike other contractors, he actually shows up when he says he will. That in and by itself is a rarity in this trade! Would use his design/build services on any project in our home. read more

Working with Zephyr was a great experience. He communicates well and stands by his work. He was able to give my fiancé and I a reasonable estimate for the work we needed done, and completed the work in what most would consider to be a tight time frame (we enlisted his services in early September, with plenty of work needing to be done and Pope weekend rapidly approaching). We needed our floor leveled, subfloor replaced, large swaths of drywall repaired, as well as extensive electrical work, including repairs and upgrades. All was finished incredibly well, reasonably on budget, and with time to spare. He's professional, informative to home improvement beginners like us, and if unexpected complications arise, he'll let you know in extreme detail before any cost increase is discussed. I'd recommend him for anyone looking for a general contractor who also has a good eye for little details that can make or break an experience for a homeowner, and we'll be looking to use his services again in the future. read more

Had a very good experience working with Zephyr. From the initial estimate to the works completion, he was very professional, respectful of our home and time, and did an excellent job. We got 4 windows replaced and a screen door installed and the work was completed in the amount of time he originally estimated. Work was very solid and now our windows look MUCH better than they did before. Zephyr also had suggestions of what other small things we could do ourselves to improve our house, which was very appreciated. All in all, I don't usually like giving 5 star reviews but there was honestly nothing to complain about. Reasonable price, good communication, and quality work. Had a fantastic experience with Mitchell Custom Concepts. Zephyr and Ian were courteous, respectful, clean and thorough. I have had water leakage in my house from the time I purchased it. For 5 years I have dumped money into various roofers and contractors who all had the answers and after thousands of dollars still had not resolved my damaged home. After doing some demo myself it had become apparent that an upstairs window was the culprit and another patch job was not going to get it done. This room needed some major help. After visiting with various other charlatans, Zephyr came by and offered considerable knowledge and solutions that no other contractors before had brought to the table. Not only that, he recognized the urgency of my situation as I needed to remodel a few rooms prior to the birth of my child. Everything hinged on getting this problem resolved. We had the refrigerator icemaker water line leaking unbeknownst to us for months before our kitchen tiles started cracking up one by one. We got Zephyr in to give us an estimate on that as well as some finishing work on the stairs and in our basement. We decided to have him do the work and haven't looked back for a second. He is smart, organized, fast to respond and detail oriented. He is also honest, kind, and trustworthy, as are his team including Ian and Mike. They got the work done quickly with a beautiful finish in exactly the amount of time and roughly the price we were expecting.
