We used Glidden Construction for our recent bathroom renovation, which was a complete gut and rebuild project and could not be happier with the process or end result. Lloyd and Eirini were incredible from start to finish! Lloyd was generous with his time, coming out to give us a ballpark estimate for the project even though we admitted we were still a few months out from starting the work. This in and of itself put him well above other contractors we attempted to contact. Lloyd was open and honest about what it would take for this project, what the unknowns might be, and what a feasible timeline for the work was, which we greatly valued. When we were ready to start the work, Lloyd came back out and provided an honest and reasonable quote. While they weren't the lowest estimate we received, for the scope of the work and how impressed we were with our early interactions with Lloyd and his team, we felt it was a very fair price. He also listened to what we wanted and needed, thinking up creative solutions to help ensure the finished product met our expectations. Even more impressive to us was that in the end, the project finished within about 5% of the original budget, which is always remarkable in our 100+ year old house. You never know what problems are lurking behind these walls and Lloyd clearly has experience with these types of homes and projects. As we planned to begin our project, Lloyd and Eirini were there every step of the way, helping us shop, make final selections, provide guidance on where to save or splurge, and ordering everything so that once the job started it could proceed without unnecessary delays. The contract and payment processes were clear and easy to manage. They use a fully electronic process, which was pain-free and allowed us to outline additional questions as they arose. Their clear and timely communication really eased any stress we had along the way. Before the project started, they informed us that there might be a delay and offered to refund our deposit if we wanted to cancel our contract. Because we found someone we trusted in Glidden Construction, we opted to wait and were pleasantly surprised when they were able to start the project about 2 months ahead of schedule. Lloyd was on site most days and his subs were thorough, skilled, genuinely nice, and worked tirelessly (especially on tile day!). Lloyd and Eirini kept us informed on the status of the project and prepared us for what unexpected things might greet us each evening. Calls, texts, e-mails, photos, they were wonderful in communicating when unexpected issues arose, outlining options, and quickly addressing issues to keep the work on schedule. They really seemed to care about this project and our sanity, despite the smallish nature of this project. Total project time was 2 weeks from start to finish. The finished project is even better than we had anticipated and the process of working with Glidden was wonderful. We don't want to remodel a bathroom for a long time, but they would be our first call! Lloyd and his team were responsive to punch list items and a few touch ups after the project was completed. Despite the project being finished, they have remained wonderfully responsive to any outstanding questions. We've referred them to several friends and neighbors, and just hope they don't become so popular that they can't fit in our next project! read more

We used Glidden Construction for several things because we liked Lloyd and thought he did a great job. Unfortunately, over the years we have discovered problem after problem with the work his team did. It has cost us so much extra time and money. read more

Last year we had Glidden update our kitchen, washroom and 1/2 bathroom. When I say update it doesn't accurately describe the complete rehabilitation our home received. Our home is now inviting from the moment you walk in the door and see the beautiful kitchen ahead. Every piece of work by Lloyd and his team has held up incredibly and has been so easy to maintain. From the beautiful counter tops to our special cat box the update has done so much for our home. I would highly recommend Glidden for any home renovations you are looking for as they are great to work with and the quality of the work will leave you smiling long after. read more

Glidden Construction - New kitchen - General Contractors Near Me

We had Glidden Construction do our kitchen remodel, and we are very happy with the result. Lloyd guided us through the planning phases and made suggestions for adjustments that were explained in detail and ended up improving our plan with an accurate timetable. Lloyd also had good oversight of the project once construction began, and the subcontractors used were similarly top-notch, in both performance and communication. Our end result was better than we would even have anticipated. Should any future needs to our house arise, we would be happy to use Glidden Construction again. read more

Lloyd and Eirini Glidden were amazing! My wife and I recently purchased a home in Philadelphia that needed a lot of work. Lloyd and his team renovated our entire house including living room, kitchen, half bathroom, full bathroom, and three bedrooms. Lloyd is extremely prompt with very honest and fair quotes. Considering the professionalism, promptness, and great work of Glidden Construction, I feel that his quotes are worth every penny. I also heard numerous stories of contractors delaying work. Lloyd and his team really tries to get the work done as soon as possible. The only hold up we had were the online orders. Towards the last week, Eirini asked us if there were any other requests before closing out the work. Lloyd and Eirini resolved every single request, small or large, we made to the highest standards. My wife and I absolutely love the work that Lloyd and company did. Glidden Construction really goes above and beyond. I highly recommend Glidden Construction and look forward to work with Lloyd and Eirini again in the near future. Thank you! read more

My wife and I are very indecisive people. We knew we wanted to rehab the kitchen in our rowhouse, but we only had a vague idea of what the transformed space would look and feel like. There were a lot of options that were difficult to fully visualize. Lloyd was extremely helpful in guiding us through the initial planning for the project. He was very patient and a great communicator. After we finally made those big design decisions, things got underway. During the construction Lloyd and crew were punctual and easy to work with. As the project progressed, Lloyd continued to provide feedback and help us through some of the decisions yet to be made (smaller details). I will admit, I am very nit-picky about details - and the guys were very attentive and responsive. Throughout the entire process Lloyd was very quick to respond to emails and return calls. We LOVE our new kitchen. It has become our favorite part of the house. We have since recommended Glidden to friends, and will continue to do so. They will definitely be our go-to guys for future home improvement projects. read more

Glidden Construction - finished! - General Contractors Near Me

Called Glidden to replace one of our bathtubs and the surrounds in both of our bathrooms after they started peeling away from the walls. Their quote came in at the right price and most of the work was done in one day. They came back for a short shift the next two days to finish up caulking and sanding. While the guys were waiting for some of the caulk work to dry, they filled in a few popped screws in the ceiling and laid down some additional lines of caulk on one of the sinks for no extra charge. Two weeks after they finished, my wife noticed that the silicon seal was starting to peel away from the new surround, so we called them back; apparently they hadn't used this particular surround before and the silicon they used didn't adhere properly. They came out the next day and had the seals replaced in 20 minutes. Lloyd was very knowledgable and personable when he came out to do the estimate. The guys doing the actual work were efficient and cleaned up after themselves. Communication was great and any questions we had were answered quickly and with enough detail that we felt like we weren't being taken for a ride. Overall they provided great service at a good price. Hopefully we won't need any additional work but if we do I won't hesitate to call Lloyd again. read more

Since moving to our new (old) rowhome 1.5 years ago, Lloyd and his team have worked on three projects in our house ranging from small to big, planned upgrades to unanticipated fixes. He has done work on every floor of our house! Rowhomes present its own challenges for home improvement projects, but we've found Lloyd has an eye (and the expertise) for creating phenomenal new spaces in old rowhomes. Above all, we trust Lloyd's judgment on the project's feasibility, longer term value to the home, and expected maintenance. When it comes to the work itself, Lloyd is honest, does not cut corners, and it's clear his crew and other people he works with espouse the same values. We highly recommend Lloyd and his team. If you want a contractor you can trust, someone who takes pride in their work, Lloyd is your man. read more

It has been a very pleasant experience to work with Lloyd's team. My house is a 1980s flip. Lots of space, but terribly outdated. Lloyd did the hardwood flooring in my house and re-did the bathroom. After getting it worked on, the upstairs of my house went from a source of embarrassment to something I am proud to show off. Clean, professional, and quick. Having your bathroom worked on is painful. However, they were sure to minimize the pain of living in a construction zone. When the work was completed, I was blown away with how well it all turned out. The project was a bear but well worth it. And the cost was insanely reasonable for what I got. Definitely recommended. Will use them for all future renovations on my house. read more

Just a great company, great guy and great work. Responses were always so prompt from Eirini, Lloyd's wife. The work was done when they said it would be and any little hiccups were always dealt with in a timely and professional manner. Highly recommended!!! --side note-I'm a professional concierge and I've dealt with A LOT of contractors, none as nice and approachable as Glidden read more

If I could give this business ten stars I would. Lloyd is like Yoda in human form. The mantra of my life has been, "It seemed like a good idea at the time" yet that hasn't stopped me from spontaneous ideas. Admittedly, sometimes my ideas aren't the best because I may not fully know the scope of what I'm venturing into and that can become costly. When it's something related to money, that's a hit nobody wants to take (but if you ARE interested in simply giving away money, please contact me, the Bank of Alisa is always open). Back to my review... We were on the verge of making a substantial investment in a property, but because of Lloyd's very thorough expertise in his field, he steered us away from what would have been very costly mistakes and a lot of headaches. His honesty was refreshing and it's obvious he's not out to make a quick sale for himself; he genuinely cares about his profession and takes pride in his workmanship. The only bad thing I could say is that if we move a few states away (an option for us) they would be too far away to hire, but if there were available, this company still would be my top choice. Call him and take the weight off your mind because he's the real deal. Thanks, Lloyd, we owe you and your wife dinner when we're in the area again! read more

We have used Glidden Construction for multiple projects around our house - big and small. Lloyd is very knowledgable, has great ideas, and is very responsive. His team is also friendly and punctual. Glidden construction recently did a small remodel in my basement, converting 3 small closets into 1 large storage closet. The work is well done, exactly what I wanted. The crew was respectful, quick, friendly & cleaned up after themselves. I felt very comfortable with Lloyd. He is also respectful & honest. I have had some really bad experiences with some contractors, plumbers, HVAC, etc companies. Not so with Glidden. Ladies especially, take note, Lloyd is someone you can feel safe & comfortable with. He will listen to you & offer suggestions without patronizing you. read more

Our home experienced modest water damage as a result of a roof leak. Scope of work was replace dry wall, replace hardwood floor, replace/repair crown molding, caulk, spackle, repaint. Once we squared with our insurance company, the process of finding a contractor began. We contacted 6 contractors, 3 of whom never called us back. We ended up with 3 estimates from 3 contractors. Glidden's was not the cheapest nor most expensive. They came in in the middle. But they invested significant time in providing a thorough and comprehensive estimate. And we and they knew from the get go that we would need some creative solutions to some repair challenges-- again, which Lloyd was helpful in laying out options for us. The communication and contracting process with Glidden was excellent and far superior to any contractor I have worked with. The execution of the work was excellent and to the letter of the contract. They did use subs for our work, which I was a little nervous about, but Lloyd made sure they were clear about what needed to be done, checked on their work periodically, and came though the house at the end of the work to inspect everything. Lloyd even called us after our final payment to him to see if we had any additional punch list items. All in all a great experience. I look forward to using them again for some remodel work. read more

This company is outstanding! I had multiple projects done at our townhouse in Society Hill. Lloyd was prompt, extremely helpful and always went the extra mile to be sure everything was done to total satisfaction. I had another contractor who took my deposit and never showed up, so I was a little "battle shy" trying with another one again, but Lloyd lived up to the positive reviews, gave fair and honest quotes. One project was replacing the wood floor on our roof deck with composite material. He sent photos of products and when I said the choice was difficult, he immediately came to the house with samples in hand. He went to the deck, laid out several and helped me narrow the choice down to two. Another was replacing patio doors (4) plus windows (2). He gave me a quote for one brand and then on another one we both agreed was better quality. He did not mind working up two quotes.I also had several small handyman type of jobs and he had no problem....seems from big to small, he will take on all! He did not mind that I added a couple of projects beyond the original plans. His subs were great to work with...polite, considerate, prompt and efficient. Lloyd made sure every detail was completed to satisfaction. I will without hesitation call Lloyd for future projects and will not bother to get multiple quotes.....prices are fair, completions are excellent and timely. What more can one ask? Also, Erini was great to work with and in the middle of all this, they had a precious new baby! read more

I really enjoyed working with Lloyd and his crew. The were on time every day. He listened to everything I wanted and made sure my vision came true. His mantra of not being happy unless his client is happy is very good. He even checks back with you a while after the job is completed to make sure you are still 100 percent satisfied with the job. I hope he continues to stay in Fishtown because he is truly an asset to the area. He was also very willing to work with me on my budget which was refreshing. read more

We hired Glidden Construction to replace our wooden lintels above our bedroom windows with cement ones. Lloyd and Eirini were great at communicating with us and keeping us informed on the progress with the project. Lloyd also replaced Sheetrock above the one window and repaired damage that had occurred when the windows leaked. We are very pleased with the work and feel that the price we received to complete the project was very reasonable and appropriate for the job as we received several estimates. We highly recommend Glidden construction. Check out their web site at Glidden-construction.com read more

I had 3 open shelves imstalled in my kitchen. Lloyd and his partner were great! They were a little late due to a previous job, but I received calls from their office staff which I appreciated. We are very pleased. I like to think of myself of a DIY'er, but sometimes I need help. We called Glidden construction to install some heavy 5/8 drywall as part of our ceiling renovation. Lloyd came out to check the job quickly and on time, provided an estimate right away and was able to get started soon with a lot of consideration of our schedule. Once the work started, Lloyd and his team were timely and efficient getting the work done well without any disruption. It was a joy working with these guys. Thanks! read more
