Dr. Shultz and his staff clearly are working hard to make sure patients feel safe when they come to his office. They appear to have made many positive changes to meet the challenges of COVID-19. Everyone was helpful and friendly. I went to 3 other doctors and non of them explained my condition or options they way that Dr. Shultz did. He clearly knows his stuff. I had surgery on both of my eyes 3 weeks apart. Wow, 20/20 for distance and I can read everything on my phone and computer without glasses too! Came in after a corneal ulcer and these people are the best. The people at the front desk are very helpful and courties and respectful of coronavirus/social distancing. Its obvious that they're having to work very hard during this time but its apparent that they are doing their best during these difficult times. When I first got here a gentleman helped me out and checked out my eye. Very nice man (I didn't get his name I think Sean maybe, he was a bald man maybe in his early 30s) he assured me that my eye would be OK just take care of it. Dr. Shultz only needed 2 seconds to diagnose my eye (very obvious that he knows what he's doing) its only been a week and the redness is gone the pain is gone. Follow ups have been easy as well. All in all if you nedd an eye doctor this dude is the guy to see. From an extremely competent and caring doctor to an amazing attentive staff doing the best they can. I can only think of one place to go when my eye is messed up and thats right here! Thanks guys!! read more

Below are the chronological events of why I wrote this honest review: * An assistant did the preliminary test, standard eye check-ups * Waited for Dr. M. Schultz for about 30 mins. read the assistants' write-ups, then told me I have cataracts * Went back for 2nd time for the pre-offs scheduling * I was ushered to go to another room for a cornea test, which according to assistant is necessary for my LASER SURGERY. * Cornea test not covered by insurance, I paid $150.00 * Went to 2nd room to watch video on LASER cataract surgery. * Dr.Schultz confirmed my cataract will cost me $3,000 @ $1,500. on ea. eye and not covered by my insurance. * All this time discussions were all about LASER SURGERY, I told him can't afford the cost; he said I can apply for in house credit w/ no interest * I asked him what are my options? Dr. Schultz said the standard surgery will be covered/paid by my insurance. I was not aware the standard surgery is covered; discussions were all about LASER SURGERY. * So I said, okay I'll have the standard surgery; he prescribed eyes drops I need after my surgery. I will have to buy for $75.00 from a supplier. He said if I have to buy from CVS, Walgreens, I will recd. 3 bottles of more expensive eye drops vs. 3 in 1 bottle from his vendor * Surgery was scheduled for 9/12; when I got home, I called my insurance and told them about this surgery * Insurance rep. told me someone from that office called and verified insurance w/o telling the medical code(s) and hang up * I requested I want a 2nd opinion; went and see another eye doctor * Another eye exams were done, the results, I have minute cataract more on the left and not the right eye * Dumbfounded became emotional, I have GLAUCOMA! * Called Dr. Schultz office and cancelled the surgery, and also requested refund of $150.00; Dr. Schultz denied my refund request because I canceled * Yes I cancelled the LASER SURGERY that I couldn't afford; the cornea exam has no bearing with my choice and opted for as agreed, STANDARD CATARACT SURGERY. ^ Recd. 2- 3 calls daily; numerous texts from eye drops vendor. I was so furious, stressed and finally called. The rep said there was no cancellation call from Dr. Schultz's office, so they keep on contacting me * Finally, I also filed a complaint with the State of CA, Dept. of Optometry. read more

This doctor should not be a "doctor". MD? Unbelievable. Some time ago I went in with an eye infection. He did not want to examine me competely because I suspect he was afraid that my eyes would contaminate his exam room and did not prescribe anything or have any solution and did not even get a swab of my tears to find out what was wrong. My eyes were red. He acted like i had a horrible disease. This doctor is a quack, to be exact. I ended up being forced to pay over $100 for---nothing! I ended up using eye lubricants like Refresh (which my veterinarian recommended) and my eyes just got better on their own within a week. If you are looking for a doctor, avoid this charlatan like the plaque. read more

Dr. Shultz has been my opthamologist for many years. He and his entire staff have always been totally professional and exceedingly polite. I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes and everything was clearly explained to me. He was very caring and took the time necessary for me to be comfortable with every step of the procedure. Dr. Mitchell Shultz is a caring, knowledgeable, educated and wonderful doctor. I have been going to him for many years and bring my children to see him as well. My oldest daughter has Crohn's disease. Dr. Shultz explained that this disease causes inflammation in the eyes as well. I know and feel absolutely confident that he makes sure to take extra good care of her. He is always happy to explain everything to you in as much detail as you need. You never feel pressured to hurry your office visit. The staff is friendly and it is very convenient to have the option of choosing eyeglasses right in the office. He is not really a pediatric ophthalmologist, he just has an agreement with insurance that allows him to state he specializes in pediatrics. My HMO insurance at the time referred us to him for my child. I took my daughter to him when she was one year old because my husband and I noticed that she had a wandering eye. The doctor assured us it was fine and to just to check that it didn't get worse. He didn't try to do a full eye exam and spent maybe 10 minutes in the room. Thankfully I have PPO now and went to see an actual pediatric ophthalmologist and she said that had glasses been given to her when she was one year old, her eyesight would not be as bad as it is now. Now my daughter has poor eyesight and has to wear glasses at the age of three because this doctor did not know that for children a wandering eye can cause poor eyesight. Do not see him if you are going for your child, go to an actual pediatric ophthalmologist. On top of everything else, the wait time can be long. read more

Dr. Shultz was a godsend. My sister is special needs due to severe mental illness. She's fifty-three, whip-smart, but stunted emotionally and, depending if she's cycling, can act out and say some very bizarre things. As her longtime conservator, it's been an ongoing challenge finding healthcare providers that are a) willing to treat her or b) know how to deal with her illness proactively while treating her medically. It's been surprising how many physicians have been put off by my sister and the unusual things she says, treat her like she's from Mars, or patronize her. Luckily, we found Dr. Shultz! He's so wonderful with my sister - patient, kind, and warm. She demands a lot of direction - it's sometimes like directing a five-year-old. But he handles her easily - literally, he has Jedi skills. :) Dr. Shultz performed cataract surgery this week and now my sister can see out of her left eye for the first time in years. It makes my heart so incredibly happy. And soon, he'll be doing the other eye. It's really such a blessing. Our family has been going to Dr. Shultz for close to 4 years and I finally had enough so I just recently switched to a new doctor. His front desk staff including the two women that sit in the lenses department are rude, impatient and not helpful at all. Scheduling an appointment is a challenge and very unpleasant. I found that if you ask to many questions or ask for them to search for availability they respond with impatience and log sighs of annoyance. The lenses ladies are just as impatient if you take to long to make a decision they outwardly show how annoyed they are. The doctor has probably said 10 words to me since we have been going there, not the greatest bedside manner! I am very happy I finally made the decision to switch and I love my new doctor and his awesome bedside manner. New doctors office is equally amazing. read more

It's about knowledge and patient care. Been going to the office for 46 years, first the dad, David, then the son, Mitchell. Both are top notch. Made the mistake of switching to an ophthalmologist closer to home one year, and an avalanche of errors. Dr. Schultz is very affable and has a great bedside manner besides being a top notch surgeon. Having someone work on your eyes takes a lot of trust that is placed on the surgeon and I never had any time that I felt that I was not sure if I had made a correct decision. Since I have 2 dear friends who had bad complications with their cataract operations, I was very concerned about undergoing eye surgery. But driving at night became very stressful. My first complaint, the front office girls couldn't be more rude and less interested in helping you. I never had any services done at the location, but I went to the office because my insurance changed, so I went by to check out the location. All I wanted to do was ask a few questions and no one greeted me as I stood in front of the desk for a about three minutes before anyone acknowledged me and the joint was pretty empty. Two of the young ladies were on their cell phones and I didn't want to interrupt them because I wasn't sure if the cell phones were company issued (I doubt it) but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The young ladies were pretty cute, but worthless as staff members. I doubt if I'll actually make an appointment now, because of his staff and I guess that doesn't matter to Dr. Schultz & Dr Chang because they were booked solid through June & July. I would suggest Dr. Schultz & Dr Chang change some of their front desk staff members because they are costing you money you could have earned. I wish I had taken down the name of the young lady who half ass helped me, so I could put her blast right now. read more
