I don't like giving out 1 star reviews if I can help it, but the shit show that was the ordeal of trying to actually SEE a performance at the Kresge prevents me from giving multiple stars.
I desperately wanted to see Evil Dead the musical at the Kresge after it was advertised in the local weekly alternative paper. I went to the website and found it odd that I couldnt prepay for a ticket with a credit/debit card or paypal but instead could only just make a reservation. It was noted that if you didnt arrive at 15 minutes until show time, that your reservation may be given away. Duly noted.
Parking was so horrendous around the theater (MIT only everywhere!) that we didnt make it to the ticket area until 10 minutes before the show and our reservations had been given away. Of course there was no way of telling this because there was a giant mob of people who had all made reservations and who all didnt make it 15 min before show time, standing around to see if their name would be read off of the waiting list.
The waiting list you say? My thoughts exactly...so apparently if you were one of the unfortunate souls who made a reservation but didnt make it there to pick up your tickets 15 min ahead of time, your name MAY or MAY NOT have been placed on a waiting list. Let the comedy ensue.... the theater staff were rude as hell, obnoxious, and also not yelling people's names loudly enough to the point where most present started openly mocking them. When asked if we were on the list, we were told that we would just have to wait and see. after standing with the mob for almost 15 minutes to NOT have our names read, we high tailed it out of there never to look back.
Oh and the kicker? It was 8:20pm and they were still reading people's names from the "waiting list" and the show was supposed to start promptly at 8:00. Hey MIT! I guess one of the smartest tech schools in the world can't figure out how to do something as simple as sell tickets. Your reservation system, which is about 20 years behind the times, caused the biggest debacle i've seen at a show outside of my highschool production of Annie when we let the stoners handle the ticket sales. I'd suggest actually selling tickets in advance on your website, or just selling tickets the night of the show. I'm so sour on the whole experience that I'll never (NOT) see another show at your theater again. read more
