I've been smoking hookah for 9 years and presently own seven hookahs. I can explain the advantages and disadvantages of the different kinds of bowls, coals, hookah sizes, and water levels. I've been to over 30 different hookah bars. Hookah is high up there on my list of favorite things to do in my spare time. So trust me when I say that Mist Hookah Lounge sucks. It's a lounge in a strip mall, the couches are pretty beat up and there are some TVs and pay to play pool tables. You need to buy one hookah for every two people, and everyone needs to get at least one overpriced, non-alcoholic drink. The hookah was terrible. According to our server, they carry mostly Starbuzz flavors. I requested two hookahs with grapefruit bowls and got the smallest grapefruit bowl I had ever seen. They did use coco naras, but three coals had the hookah to burning very quickly, so the flavor was burnt. The smoke quality was decent, but the flavor of burnt grapefruit and tobacco isn't exactly pleasant. I removed a coal, but then the smoke was non-existent. My curiosity got the better of me, so I dissected the bowl after getting fed up. They used a piece of perforated foil as a screen to keep the tobacco from being sucked in, which is not the best way to do it. The staff checked on us pretty often, but to be fair, I did not really voice my problems with the hookah. But $72 for two bad hookahs and four non-alcoholic drinks is way too high for NJ, so I told them as I was paying. They apologized for the bad experience and advised that I let them know sooner next time. But if they're using grapefruits a quarter the size of the other hookah bars and they get it wrong the first time, I honestly don't think that they would do any better the second try unless they allowed prepare my hookah personally. read more

Mist Hookah Lounge - World's tiniest grapefruit bowl - Hookah Bars Near Me - North Brunswick Township, New Jersey

This is an amazing place. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great flavors to smoke. They also have billiards. Best part you can smoke and play. I could not ask for a better place to just hang out out my friends. They have great customer service. And a million tvs. read more

This is like the only place that's cool in this area. Service is one of the best that i've seen. Price is reasonable. Only thing that I really don't like is that the security is a bit too tight. Not sure why they need to pat us down. They really should have the guy buy a metal dector instead of the pat down procedure. I understand it if we're a bunch of high school / college kids, but for white collar working adults like us this is really a turnoff. read more

Weakest hookah ever. You will feel nothing. Came around 10:30pm on a Sat night. We were 3 people so we got 2 hookahs (1 hookah required per 2 people). Got the Martini and Tigers Blood flavors. Got the Martini one with the bazooka ice hose and the Tigers Blood with the milk base. Weak weak weak. And overpriced. For $17 + $5 for the hose and milk base each I would expect more. Also each person is required to get a drink (waters, juices, sodas count). We got a water, ginger ale, and coffee. Don't waste your money on the ice house, it doesn't work, doesn't even stay on. Our waitress had to switch the first hose out for another. Second ice hose was slightly better but still sucked, weak pulls. We ended up asking her to just switch it to a regular hose, but she said they'll still charge us for the ice hose, which is whatever I expected that. Only nice thing is that it feels like an actual lounge with the decor. There's pool tables you can pay to play. Sultana's hookah is way better and cheaper and still my fav in the area, but the decor there isn't as nice. Mist decor is an upgrade in comparison but the hookah is a huge fail. read more

Rude staff that lacks courtesy and speaks disrespectfully to women characterizes the crib in a nutshell. We were 5 of us and out of the 5, only 2 were interested in having Hookah so we visit Mist which was in the vicinity. Since the headcount was 5, we were forced to order 3 Hookah as per the "Company Policy". On demanding a logical explanation from the store receptionist guy named 'Manny', my female friend was il-treated and part-surprised at how store-keepers deal with customers in this age of digital revolution without truly understanding the consequences of their unwarranted actions. While I was leaving, I went to the same guy 'Manny' and politely asked if he thinks my female friend deserves an apology, to which he again spoke crap and instead demanded an apology from our side. Even when most of the place was vacant, they didn't honor our request of moving to a bigger booth stating business reasons. I am forced to give this review a single star when I wanted to give none, as this is a new low in customer satisfaction I have come across ever. If you wanna have hookah in the evening, this is definitely a no-go. read more

Good place to hang out for a few hours, but they're really sticklers. On entry, my friends and I are all 30+, and we get a strong once-over with the id's. It is BYOB, but the wine we brought was over 12% alcohol (actually it was 13%), so we couldn't drink it. We had 3 people, and one hookah minimum for every 2 people, so we had to buy two. Plus 3 bottles of water for $8. I guess they're just covering their bases (make money, don't give cops an easy excuse to shut the place down), but I couldn't help but feel a bit unwelcome with their numerous policies. Seriously, it's not like we brought in a pallet full of Four Loco's and a fifth of grain alcohol. Hookah was just fine, and we had fun. read more

This place was the perfect end of the night activity! Super chill vibes, great music, great hookah! An employee asked us if everything was good every time he passed by and was so kind. BYOB is also always a plus! Highly recommend :) read more

Everything that could have been bad about this place was bad. Possibly terrible. As many others have mentioned, the policies here are ridiculous: everyone gets patted down, bags are checked, men are not allowed to wait inside, if you leave the line, you have to get patted down AGAIN, wine/alcohol can't be higher than 12% alcohol (good luck), you can't have ice (in case you snuck in higher than 12% alcohol?????), one hookah for every two people... I'm not sure why they make you wait outside forever. When we got inside, there were plenty of open seats, couches, and tables. When we left, there were even more spaces open, yet still a line. Hookah prices at first glance are good (ranging from $8-17), but if you want a fruit on top, thats $5 for an apple. Want a pineapple? That will be $10! Want some more coals? Sure, that will take at least 10 minutes and they'll drop off coals the size a dime. Our hookahs sucked. I saw plenty of others without any issues, but ours just plain sucked. They took it in the back, did something to it, and same crap. We gave up after a while and asked for the check. They charged us for a drink that we never got. They broke a wine glass (full of wine). Everything really sucked. I'm definitely not going back, ever. read more

Mist is one of my favorite Hookah Lounges and is probably the best one in Central NJ. The security may be a bit much at the door, but don't let that intimidate you from going in. It's BYOB, which is great because you can sit with your friends, smoke and have a few drinks without breaking the bank. Like most Hookah Lounges, you need to buy one item per person and Hookahs are for 2 people max. I had the pumpkin pie hookah last time which was great- they have a big variety of flavors here and also have a tobacco free/herbal mixture. The DJ plays a mix of Latin, Hip Hop and Pop music and also takes requests. The owner came over and introduced himself and chatted with me and my friends and gave us each a CD that the DJ made for the lounge. The only suggestion I have is to add some appetizers to the place, because we get hungry after drinking/smoking for 4-5 hours! read more

I'm not sure writing a review will have much impact on Mist's business, since hookah bars are far and few between and a certain type of single-minded customer won't acknowledge my complaints below: - Legend holds the door guy once manned the door at Marquee. One night he stood in front of the wrong door. He was fired. Jobless, he followed a faint smoke signal for 40 days and nights until he arrived at Mist. The door guy has certainly been hardened by the ordeal. He'll make an individual wait outside in the cold while they 'set up for you' inside. He'll pat you down after you go out for a cigarette. He'll air an off-hand complaint about a customer just to pass the time. It's charming, if you're into that sort of thing. You freak. - The interior is classy in the context of the adjacent Public Storage facility. There's a DJ in a DJ booth but it's not clear what he's doing. There are some 23 inch flat screen TVs playing cable. There are a few pool tables in a better-lit room. "It's really not that bad," said someone once. - All businesses try to take as much money from customers as possible. That's roughly the definition of a business. Most businesses manufacture a sense of civility around their pillaging. This is not most businesses. A bag is pulled over your eyes and the menu/commandments handed over: one hookah minimum for every three people, at least one drink for each entrant, charges for pool calculated by a pseudo-random number generating function. Understandable, in the same perverse way my international relations professor once rationalized waterboarding. In any case, administering these rules results in a wait time matched only by the extraordinary level of confusion: as the door guy, owner, and waiters all use a different number system to arrive at a seemingly arbitrary headcount for any party larger than three. - The hookah itself isn't too bad. Prices start at around $10 and go all the way up to around $25, which seems reasonable split between a couple people. The hookahs ordered were packed well, lasted long enough, and had decent taste. The waitstaff is semi-attentive in refilling coals and were all very friendly. There are the usual beverages available (coffee, energy drinks, water, flavored teas), but everything is marked up because screw you, that's why. - All in all, if you want to go to a hookah bar and you're close to Mist, you're probably going to go to Mist. You'll cry about it in the morning, wondering when you lost your dignity. But, hey, at least you saved money bringing your own 6 pack of Coors Light. read more

If I could I would rate this 0 stars. I'll start off with a list of everything as to why you should avoid this place . 1.everything is overpriced 2. Hookah is horrible 3. Hookah is Dirty 4. Tobacco taste like Sh*t (never tasted sh*t before but this is probably very close) 5. They don't put any tobacco at all in the head. 6. Avoid this place like the Black Plague Never will I ever recommended going to this place. Go to the bowling alley right next to it you'll have a better time there than going to this joke place read more

Worst Hookah Lounge I have ever been to. On your way in, the bouncer violates you more than any TSA agent I've ever experienced. Mandatory 1 Hookah for every 2 people - whether or not your entire party is smoking. Even if you have 9 people, 5 hookahs are required. Absolutely ridiculous. No food. No drinks. BYOB but only for beverages with less than 12% alcohol (yes the bouncer actually checks). You're paying to sit in a large room on IKEA couches with MTV 2 and shit music playing in the background. No Thanks. read more

Trying to find a good spot for a bit of night-life in New Jersey is really really hard. We went here with a group of friends to hang out and try some hookahs. This place is in the same complex as Brunswick Zone (bowling alley). The hookahs were moderately priced as compared to the overpriced ones we have had in Manhattan. You have to order one hookah for 2 people. We were seated in a nice separate lounge area. This was really different from the small/cramped overcrowded spots in Manhattan. DJ was good, although it was really hard to have a conversation with the loud music. Service was so-so, we had to wait a while to get the coal changed. You have to order one drink per person, and there aren't too many options for drinks. The drinks we ordered came straight from the vending machine. We didn't know this place was BYOB. I don't recall seeing any food on the menu. It would have been nice if they offered some finger food. read more

After a few games of bowling at Brunswick Zone (situated in the same plaza), dropped in around 830pm on a Thursday night with a party of 15. While only a few of us were planning to hookah, we decided to order 3 different flavors: Blue Mist (not on the menu, but was recommended by the waitress and my favorite by far), Tara in Japan (a fruity flavor - strawberry/orange/mango, again recommended by the waitress), and The Mad Wife (had a red bull base, but wasn't a fan of the flavor). Each was considered a fusion flavor and ran for $15. Note that they usually require 1 hookah for every 2 people, and everyone is required to get a drink (they have a variety of teas, fruit drinks, soda, and energy drinks, but no alcoholic beverages nor food at this time...you can BYOB in though)...our whole group got drinks, but were unwillingly to get 7 different hookahs when only a select few of us would be participating. Ambiance was modern and hip, music was hip-hop/house and allowed me to fist pump like a champ, and the hookahs each lasted an hour before losing flavor. As a next step, this place needs to get a liquor license and have a number of beverages to match their extensive hookah list. read more

Mist Hookah Lounge - hookah list - Hookah Bars Near Me - North Brunswick Township, New Jersey

The ONLY good thing about our drive down from Jersey City is that our boy DJ CHES is spinning. Ambiance is okay... but for the insane pat down and bag search, it feels like I should be entering an NYC night club. Not sure what crowd they're trying to bring in, but they're looking for a more exclusive clientele than they deserve. $16+ hookahs seem to have more flavor than the cheaper ones. Expect to spend good money for flavors you can actually taste. Don't come hungry though, cause they don't serve food. Pros: Spacious location Clean bathroom Decent sound system Outside good allowed Byob (12% abv max) Pool table ($10 for 2 people for 1 hour... $2 each additional person) Cons: Over-the-top bouncer Overbearing waitress/service staff Minimum of 1 non-alcoholic drink per person (don't serve alcohol) Minimum of 1 hookah per 2 people Doesn't serve their own food Doesn't serve alcohol. Only offers soda, water, Gatorade. Byob but only 12% abv or lower so no hard liquor or certain wine read more

I am a hookah fan and keep hunting for places near me. So here is my experience. We checked this online and found this place is a BYOB which made us happy. But our excitation dint last long when they mentioned only beer and wine allowed. We stopped in Wine and Spirit and bought a red wine and reached there by 11:30pm. But the security guy stopped us saying its 13% alcohol mentioned in the bottle and they accept only 12% one. Omg it was disgusting. Then again we hit one spirit shop nearby and luckily it was sat night so some shops were open. Then we got in with another wine. Believe me the environment was not as good as Fire and Ice. Next they said its must for us to buy drinks or soda and charged around $15 for that. Hookah was okay. But every one us felt Fire and Ice was better one. No entertainment at all. Too bright lights and was bit boring too. Music was good. So I gave three stars for that. Overall it's not a best place if you have a budget or a college student. read more

Finally, a hookah lounge that knows how to treat their customers. I went here recently with a couple of friends on a Friday night. Reservations are a must on the weekends if you don't want to wait, tables are limited. All of the hookahs were very reasonably priced and lasted for our entire 2 hour stay between five of us. The inside was a big, dimly lit, open room with tables and leather chairs and couches placed throughout, with lots of space in between. It set an appropriate chill yet modern atmosphere. There are also a couple pool tables in another room sectioned off by curtains. There were people making the rounds with hot coals every 15 minutes or so, and when we requested more coal someone was at our side within 2 minutes cleaning off ash and replacing the coals. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Mist is BYOB (no hard liquor) which I personally liked - so we brought our own alcohol and they provided us with glasses. My only gripe is the lack of drink selection. The menu says food and a more extensive list of options is coming soon, which will make this place even better. Also - is the live fish in the hanging lights really necessary? Poor fish, they must be frying to death. read more

The selection is good and the quality is okay. I've had a badly packed bowl out of the 8 or so I've had here, which isn't necessarily indicative of problems. The bouncer at the door is pretty invasive. It's not clear to me why he is needed, but perhaps there is a reason. The prices aren't necessarily high per se, but the place has a bit of a aggressive and money-grubby feel. The policy is one hookah per two people and you have to buy a soft drink (which, unlike the shisha, are overpriced.) Gratuity is added to the bill. The policies are related to you in a way that is a bit aggressive-feeling. The thing I want to do at a hookah lounge is RELAX, which one hookah per two people gets in the way of. I'm not a constant hookah and just keeping it 2 hookahs going well among three patrons increases my stress. I would much sooner have significant price hikes without the strong-armed policy stuff. It feels cheap and, frankly, condescending. I do not feel treated like a grownup. The decor is modern and somewhat chic but cheap, home-quality stuff and some of it is uncomfortable. The staff is friendly enough. The uniform is tacky. I still go here from time to time, which is not usually something I'd say about a 1-star review, but that's really for lack of competition and convenient location. DEfinitely don't rush in. read more

Went with my gf and was disappointed. I should have just walked away as soon as i read the sign they had on their entrance. Right off the bat it gave off a bad vibe. Then the guy at the door gives us problems because my girlfriend had a "passport id" or "consular id" instead of a NJ state ID. We were dressed very nice and i was ready to have a nice night. Too bad they had the sound system blaring a football game. If I wanted to go to a sports bar then i would have went to one. I went to a hooka lounge thinking i would listen to some nice music while having a good conversation with my gf. We ended up just leaving. read more

The ambiance of the place is very nice, but I feel that they don't really care about the quality of their hookah. The hookah pretty much bland compared to what Im used too. Pros -nice ambience -good hookah and decent price -paid pool tables -outside food allowed -outside drinks allowed (mostly wine and beer only) Cons -don't serve food -bouncer can be overly annoying at times while entering the place -each person is forced to order a drink (alcohol not served) -mandatory hookah per 2 people read more

One of the worst hookah places I've been to. We had to set up the hookah and the coal. Hose was rusty. It's just not worth. They don't know what they are doing. The couches are super uncomfortable. They need experienced servers and should lower their prices for this crap. read more

Decided to come here with my husband and a good friend of ours (I was the designated driver and also not a smoker.. just came along as the others wanted to smoke). Once we came in we were asked for our ID's and were seated at a table. Once at the table one of the staff members came up to us and told us that because there were three of us we had to have a minimum of 2 pipes. We explained to the staff that I was not smoking I am only here because I am the dd and I even offered to buy a water or other non alcoholic beverages offered. The staff was quite rude and said that there was absolutely no way they could give us 1 pipe as I was considered as a third head count and it was a policy for minimum 2 pipes for 3 people. I even suggested if I should go wait in the car in this freezing weather while my husband and his friend smoked, I thought maybe he would understand.. however he said that would be ok if I wanted to do that but there's absolutely no way we could get only one pipe. We ended up getting two pipes and my husband realized one of the pipes wasn't pulling well and raised concerns to the same staff member who came by and insisted it was the coal, he changed the coal but still not good enough. When we asked again to have the pipe checked or changed he refused and responded in a unprofessional way. He then yelled across the room to his colleague for her to come and check our pipe, this staff member was much more friendly and tried many things to fix it with no success. In the end she exchanged the whole hookah. We ended up staying another 10 minutes after this and left. The place is great however the experience we had was not very friendly and great. Also, the policy about having 2 pipes between 3 people even if one person isn't smoking and sitting far away is utter bull. Definitely not a place to go back again! read more

BYOB - Beer and Wine Only. Alchohol content has to be under 12.5% (i think...or is it 17.5%? hmm...you might wanna call ahead and double check first. I always bring the big bottle Cavit Pinot Grigio and that is JUST making the cut) I was once a regular here before I moved and its a pretty cool spot. The service is usally pretty goo. They are always on top of the coal refills. The music is usually house, a little hip hop, pop and thats pretty much it. Chill crowd. And the prices are right. read more

We were met at the door by the owner; he was extremely nice and seated us immediately. We brought a 6 pack of beer and was offered a bucket of ice and an opener very considerate. The place is good, hookah was smooth. You need to buy drinks with the hookah though, which was unusual. The bouncer at the front was kind of overkill, but I talked to the manager, and he had a good enough reason for that. It's a decent place, I'll likely visit again. read more

The place itself is very large. It is probably one of the largest hookah bars I have been to, and I have been to a lot. The place inside is very nice with pleasant couches and TV's around the whole place with a giant projector in the back wall. Also if you do see a giant painting on the wall, the dragon like one. That was done by my next door neighbor Aisha, who is a crazy talented artist. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They help you go through the menus very well and if you need coals for your hookah, they try and get it to you as fast as they can. Also the place is byob, so that is definitely a plus for people who like a little beer or wine with their hookah. But remember it can't be more than 30% content so no vodka or stuff like that. That being said, the security thing in front is a little ridiculous. We aren't going to a huge famous club or anything so it's kinda ridiculous that I have to be strip searched before I walk in. Also they do have a variety of hookah flavors which is always a plus, but tbh they aren't the best I've had. Idk what how they pack it or whatever, but it's not the best. They are places in NB and Edison that have much better hookahs. But all in all, it's a pretty decent place and it is very large. They allow some liquor which is always a plus. So if you enjoy that, then I would recommend this place, if you can get passed the security guy in front. read more

BYOB spot. The owner is hungry for money tho. 2 ppl per hookah lol and 1 drink (non alcoholic) minimum per person. Unheard of. It's a cool spot but not much traffic I'm sure. He needs a promoter or something to get traffic so he won't be so needy for sales. It has potential. Nice low key spot read more

Can you give a negative star cause this place is the absolute worst. We walk in with 9 people cause my cousin is visiting from out of town, 5 of us don't smoke but they insist we need to buy 2 hookahs for every 2 people they make us buy 5 even though we didn't have 10 people and only 5 people were smoking total. There is also a 1 drink minimum per person...they didn't have half the nonalcoholic beverages we wanted (alcohol isn't an option) but i can't even get a diet sprite or a decaf coffee. The owner isn't exactly a pleasant person, over $2.75 and his rules he's gonna lose any of my repeat business and you better believe I'm telling all my friends to avoid this place. Oh also the website says closes at 2 but it closed at 1 am. Do yourself a favor and go to isis or maya !!! read more

Been coming to this hookah lounge for about a year and a half now. It's definitely one of the better places for hookah in the area and I have visited numerous places in NJ. Here is my very long but positive review... The staff, great people. Management remembers my boyfriend and I every time we walk in and always has a nice conversation with us. Servers always know what they are talking about and are always very friendly. They are very attentive and come by often to see if the hookah is working correctly or if we need coal. It is BYOB, beer and wine only and it must be 12% or under. I guess some people have a hard time accepting that but this is a business and it's really not that big of deal. Bring two bottles of wine and your golden. There are a few liquor stores in the area. You can also bring your own food and they have pool tables!! TIPS- It is one hookah per two people which means if you have 3 people in your party then you need to get another hookah. Another note for people who have yet to visit -everyone needs to purchase some type of drink whether it be soda or a cup of tea. I see some people make a big deal of this according to the other reviews but it's actually really reasonable. All in all I enjoy myself when I'm there. Going on a random night of the week, sitting back, sipping on some wine and having hookah is relaxing. I have nothing but good things to say about Mist. Great place to hang out and have hookah. read more

My friends and I came to this hookah bar with high expectations being from the Brunswick area and expecting quality hookah and an ambiance befitting the ridiculous policies and prices that Mist charges. Let me start by saying Manny the manager is perhaps the rudest and most inept manager I've encountered in a long time. Not only are some of the policies for this establish ludicrous..for example being frisked at the door by a bouncer who ordered us to remove our caps as it was "dress code" We came with the understanding that the place was BYOB. Yet we were surprised to learn we had to leave out 13% alcohol bottle of wine with the bouncer because apparently it was too much for 6 grown men to indulge in whilst staying at the sad excuse for a hookah lounge that is Mist. Had we known that liquor would be necessary just to make it though the evening, we would have drank much, much more beforehand. The evening continued, as we were forced to order 4 disgusting hookahs for our party of 8 even after explaining in depth about how two of our friends were strict non-smokers and came for our company not for hookah. After refusing to be flexible, or even courteous, Manny the manager suggested we go to Maya or other competing establishments down the road if we were not satisfied. This offer would have been more tempting if he had not already brought out two hookah's and said he would charge us for those and the untouched bottles of water we were forced to buy to satisfy their "minimum drink" policy. So here we were, all too sober, frustrated by the fact that we were spending money for essentially two hookahs that were virtually untouched (they force you to buy one per every two customers), and after being insulted and demeaned by a manager who felt that by telling us he had a master's degree, would gain some sort of respect and understanding from us, we decided to stay and try and enjoy the evening as we had driven quite far and invested time and money to have a good night. However - all hopes of salvaging what remained of the evening quickly evaporated as we took our first pulls of what can only loosely be defined as "hookah". A more apt description would be a large metal pole with too much water, a clay bowl filled with shisha that i imagine a monkey packed, and a hose that gifted us with wonderful little chunks of ash, dirt, and God knows what else every time we took a pull, resulting in a light and disappointing "mist" of smoke reminding me of the experience I had when I first packed a hookah bowl. At age 15. With a $25 hookah. Long story short, save your money. Save your time. go somewhere where you can wear your cap, bring your wine, not be insulted and treated like garbage by the staff, not spend $16 on water, and above all - go somewhere you can smoke hookah..because I don't know what we smoked at mist. Manny if you read this, find another job. You suck at this one. read more

The manager was very very misbehaved and arrogant. He doesn't know how to treat customers. They have weird policy too and they were not upfront about it. They made us take 3 hookah for 5 people even though 3 of us didn't smoke. And they disclosed this policy only after serving the first hookah. The hookahs were nothing good either. Extremely bad service and very arrogant manager. I would never go back here and would suggest everyone not to go. I am forced to give 1 star when I want to give zero star. read more
