I've been taking my car to Mission Smog and Auto Repair in Hayward for over 10 years, mainly for smog certification on my 2001 truck. Recently, my truck wouldn't start at all, so I had it towed in for diagnostics. They quickly found the issue--a short in the alarm system--and installed a new alarm. While they had it, they also fixed a few other issues and gave it a complete tune-up. The truck now runs like new. These guys are honest, knowledgeable, and do excellent work. This was best experience I've ever had in getting a smog check done. The service was quick (about 15 minutes), there was lots of parking, and there was a nice lounge to wait in. The location is at the end of a roadway for the row of businesses in the block, so its not so easy to notice from Mission Blvd. But its well worth the effort to find it. read more

I don't write too many reviews, but this is one that I thought was needed to be reviewed. Small town shop is hard to get customers, so I hope even a one review will help them. Why 5 stars: Polite, Friendly, Honest, Fast. Story: I have visited this place probably 5 times, just for a single car. First time, a young man who I believe was the owner's son; was very helpful stating that my car needed to be on the road for 100+miles, since I have recently changed my battery, so my computer was fully resetted. (the computer needs to test my car during the car running). But since I did not have registration, he gave me this "not ready" status to my car, so that I won't have a "Fail" record on smog check history; This allowed me to be able to drive the car with out registration for 30 days. I had to leave country for couple month, when I was back, "not ready" status was already gone, so I wasn't allowed to run the car on an open road. So I went there to ask what I could do. Their Father told me to go to DMV to get a one day pass to move my car, which I did the same exact day, and took my car around for a 100 mile run. Went back to see if I was able to have smog test. Their Mother came to help me this time stating that the car is still not ready. So I searched online how to get my car ready to get smog check. I found solution, then went again for another 60 mile run. When I went back, the lady told me that it is still not ready, they could start the check as is, but it would most likely fail the test, so it would be a better idea to finish the readiness test first. I checked my car once again with my own OBDII gadget, and figured that it was my O2 sensor that was having trouble passing, so I went to Autozone, and picked up an universal O2 sensor, jammed it on, then went for another 10 mile run, walla. It was ready. I took it back this morning to the Mission Smog Test Only, the lady greeted me with a smile saying welcome back. She pulled out her computer reader, then told me it was ready, she started the whole test right away. With in 15 min or so (was really quick I don't remember), she came back with all the papers congratulating me. I had trouble myself, but that was just me having an old car that was parked for over 2 years in my garage. Their honesty and kindness made my car passed with only having "not ready" in my history instead of "fail". Once the "fail" has been put into the record, you will be able to see that on carfax which can give you hard time selling the car later on. I just want to thank them very much, and I will for sure come back when ever I needed another smog check with other car that I own. read more

I was offered seating inside out of the sun and told it would take about 10 minutes. Sure enough, test was completed and paperwork ready in about 15 minutes. Easy - I called first to see if I needed an appointment. They said just come before 5pm. I got there around 4, waited for the car to finish before me. Within 30 minutes I was out and certified, another 2 cars came in while I was there, so they can get busy, but at 15 min a car, it's pretty fast. Friendly, plenty of space to park and / or sit. Uh oh....DMV letter received in the mail....either its a ticket (darn you FasTrak!) or its that dreaded registration time! Open it up and BAM: "Smog requred"...ugh! so not fun to have to deal with this stuff but i realize over the years its the anticipation of possibly, it won't pass Brought in my "senior Camry" (310K! and still reliable) and figure it has a 50-50 of passing....sigh...I've been bringing my car to Mission Smog over the past 12 years and this place is always quick and efficient.... 15 minutes in and out the door on a weekday. Even though Yelp and their sign says they open at 8:00 am i would just get here after 8:30..fill out paperwork, give them your key, wait about 10-15...hear them intermittently revving your engine and then the news.....PASS, congratulations! (insert sighs here!) YAY! Pay your $60 (Star certified for older cars) This place is a mom-and-pop place and very women-friendly...i wanna say "mama" helped me and she was really nice and explained what i needed to do when i got home...basically, paperwork automatically sent in to DMV and just go online, and pay your registration. read more

My husband and I have been here several times since moving to Hayward in 2017. I first brought my and my husband's cars here for smog checks. Since then, we've both taken our cars in for oil changes and any random car concerns we've had. I've interacted with Son, his mother, and his father, and they are all really great. I have never been disappointed with this family-run business. I trust them to do anything with the cars, and I am never concerned with being taken advantage of which, as a woman at a car repair shop, is special. There are a lot of car repair shops on Mission, and I've never been tempted to try another out. I don't usually write reviews, but this place really deserves a good one. read more

These guys are LEGIT. Had a 93 mustang with lots of modifications and these guys made it possible for the car to pass by looking up the most recent parts that became legal in CA and gladly gave us a reasonable price with pictures to show for. I recommend going to get smog tested here because I've had experience with going to a test center in SSF and the car failed simply because the tester did not take the time to look at the parts of the car that "failed" as he wrote down a part that wasn't even on the car (smog check at the 76 gas station on el Camino on ssf). Mission smog are very legit and will help you understand with what's going on with your car. They will sit you down and give reason! There's a reason why these guys average a 5 star review - they're fair, quick, and friendly! I came here from a recommendation of the Hayward AAA when I went to renew my registration. I didn't realize I needed a smog and I asked where was a local smog place. The gentleman (Lee, I believe) gave me a card for this place. Now, this place wasn't exactly far from the AAA but I wanted to get this smog thing done quickly and back to the AAA before the lunch crowd came (it was also the last weekday of the month and there were lots of people there already). So I looked up some other places and they were all jokers. I called one place and he said it'd cost $75 minimum and that trucks like mine "ruin" his test machines so there'd probably be more costs - yeah right! So I called these guys and they said it'd be $60 straight up, if it passed. Fair enough. I came in and I was out of there in 10-15 minutes. Son kindly offered me some cold bottled water while I waited. He also mentioned that they do repair work too. With this kind of service and honesty I will definitely consider it if I'm in the area. read more

My bi-annual bathroom cleaning reminded me that I needed to get my car smogged(see previous review)... Remembering the great experience I had last time at Mission Smog, I decided to head back again. Glad I did! Mission did not disappoint... I rolled in early-ish Saturday morning and there was no wait! Couldn't believe it. $40 all included. $40 out the door. $40 and fifteen minutes then you're on with your life!!! No haggling. No calling around for prices. No calling to ask if the shop charges more for older cars or if certificate is included. $40 for the whole shebang! Pretty sure I spent more for all that bathroom cleaner... Bottom Line: If you're getting your vehicle smogged elsewhere you're likely wasting your time and money. Friendly owners, unbeatable service and price... read more

Update 12/29/13: They've recently raised the price to $50 without notice. Their claim is new requirements from DMV, blah, blah, blah. The fact is I just brought my other car to your place a few months back and other places are still offering $40 out the door price. The frustrating part was when I brought my late model (not a junker) car in it was fine and when I picked it up all of a sudden, I failed the smog and my car's Check Engine light was mysteriously on! They wanted me to go next door to get it fix and then charge me $20 for retesting. The old guy that did my smog didn't speak English and was blabbing something in Vietnamese. I had enough of it, just paid and took it to another smog center where my vehicle passed with flying colors. This place is a fraud and rip off! read more
