It is in Emigrant a small town that boasts a great bakery and great BBQ in the warm season. To get to and from the Cabin you drive through the Chico Hot Springs Resort. In addition to hot springs Chico has a riding stable and adventure company for white water, scenic floats and hiking. This is nice if you don't want to drive to Gardiner some days. There is also a nice hike to a falls just up the road from the cabin. The cabin itself was excellent. We were there on some hot days and the cabin stayed cool if you closed the blinds as instructed. There was a full kitchen and while fussy cook husband might have wanted sharper knives for prep work he managed to make some fine meals. He also used the charcoal grill but the black flies were thick in the heat. Better him than me! Happily the long porch facing the stream is fully screened. No biting things there. The porch had a casual dining table and glider bench. The cabin had two bedrooms and one and a half baths. The half bath was in a utility room which included a washer and dryer. Priceless! There was also a comfy living room with two sofas and a glider chair. We never used the TV but it was there too. The cabin had wifi thankfully because there wasn't much cell reception. Basically it was a great place to get away, listen to the creek at night and relax.

Everything about this place was great!…read more We came in really hungry and had to wait for a little bit to get seated so we were staring at the bakery case and decided to get an everything cream cheese scone. That was the best tasting scone I've ever had! We started off with the garlic bread and it comes out on a pesto. It was toasted just right and has just a splash of balsamic glaze that added the best balance. Whole cloves of roasted garlic on there too! The chili, I can honestly say beat mine, and I make a damn good chili! Just the right amount of heat and the jalapeño cornbread added just the right texture. Bison strip in bourbon garlic sauce was the best meal I have had in a really long time. The vegetable served with it was perfectly cooked and fresh! I highly recommend trying this place you won't be disappointed!

The town itself is quaint, and this felt like a perfect place to grab a bite before heading into the park. We ordered the wild game chili, which was really flavorful and hearty, along with the loaded tots, which were a fun addition to the meal. Inside, the space has great decor with local artwork that adds to the overall feel of the place. It felt welcoming and fit the area well. Overall, a great stop for us and a place I would recommend if you are heading into Yellowstone from this entrance.

Your first view of the log cabin lodge reveals an unpretentious structure that is very roomy inside with a large common room that serves as a gathering/breakfast space, seeming to be, with the loft, a nice facility for groups. The Lodge is constructed of logs that remained after a fire consumed 12,000 acres including much of the ranch. The hosts Ruth and Blick shared their story about the building of the lodge which we found fascinating. Our rooms were very spacious with cathedral ceilings with outside entrances/porches. A pond lies just outside the Lodge and a stream just steps further(our fishing skills were too limited to take advantage of those opportunities). Cattle graze all around the site as part of its ranch setting in the coulee and we saw turkeys and deer along the road. Breakfasts were simple but good with large portions and very accommodating (we needed breakfast at 7 AM and it was on the table right on time each day). The long rock/dirt lane road made us wonder whether we were in the right place but signage assured us that we were. The road also encouraged us to stay in during the evenings which was fine for us and resulted in a very tranquil stay. This was our first exposure to Montana "ranch" life and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Preparing meals together was a valuable experience during the reunion. Six individual rooms like hotel rooms -- private bath, closet and area to unpack suitcases, towels, linen, roll-away beds, clock-radios, porch-space outside. High ceilings and quaint log construction. Large common area for dining and socializing. Internet by satellite -- adequate for Email and web, but you won't be streaming video. Cell phones out of range, but you can get cell service by driving 1.5 miles up the road to the ridgetop. Hiking and some fishing on the stream nearby. Large pond for a canoe or raft. Garden flowers and green lawn. Cattle on the surrounding ranch are entertainment. Near enough to Big Timber. The only shortcoming: this area recovering from a fire a few years ago; surrounding hillsides show dead twisted trees with new trees only beginning to grow -- namesake "Burnt Out" lodge. Would certainly go back again; would certainly recommend.

There is a gas barbecue near the cabins with seating to enjoy the outdoors and relax. There are chairs by the creek where you can sit and absorb the experience of being in the forest. The cabins are the perfect size for one or two people. They have everything you need to make a meal in the cozy cabin. I was fortunate enough to get a reservation again this year. The care and pride they have in their cabins are well deserved. I think Pete is the moose whisperer. Twice I have been invited to see the moose mom and kid(s) from the deck of Carol and Pete's house. If you are having separation anxiety from your pup, Kelly is there to help you cope. When you come to Montana, this is the perfect place to stay while you enjoy Yellowstone, only a mile away. Be good to yourself and stay with Carol and Pete at Silver Tip Cabins. You deserve it. You won't regret it. You'll become a regular. I have. Thanks, Carol and Pete, for everything. It is located in a spot that is completely wooded yet you have incredible views of the surrounding mountains. We saw moose, deer (within 10 feet of our cabin porch) and birds we had never seen before! Each morning started out with coffee on the cabin porch where we lingered just appreciating the woods and the wildlife. It thundered and rained nearly every day but for short times, so that no plans were spoiled. Carol and Pete and their dog Kelly are gracious hosts providing all the creature comforts (tv, cell service, laundry) along with opportunities to see a mother moose and her two calves enjoying a salt lick - thanks to Pete! We had easy access to Silver Gate and Cooke City, especially "Stop the Car" ice cream! We were within 7 minutes of the NE Entrance to YNP, so we made many trips into the park where we saw buffalo, goats. fox, wild horses and a grizzly bear! This was the trip of a lifetime! Thank you so much Carol and Pete!! We intend to come back! Judy and Rick H.
