This was a horrible dental experience. The fillings that they performed were low quality. I had them inspected a few weeks later at another dental office, loose around the base of the fillings with cracks in the top as well. The dental assistants discussed personal matters above me while working on my teeth, in spanish and in english. During a filling, one dentist swapped out for another who did not name thenself. Totally inappropriate conduct in a dental office, I did not feel cared for. When my nightguard was supposed to be ready for pickup, two weeks after fitting, the office failed to inform me before my appointment. I arrived at the office and waited for about 25 minutes in a chair before they told me it was not ready. While I wasn't charged for this visit, it was a waste of my time that could have been solved with attention to detail on their part. I had put this incident behind me as a costly mistake around $1300 for cleaning and fillings, until this Saturday at 5pm I received a call from their management group. The woman on the other end of the call began talking to me and questioning (with a rude attitude, she cut me off mid sentence more than once) me about my experience with my visits to Mission Dental without informing me that our phone call was being recorded. After a minute and fifty of this she let me know the call was being recorded. I responded that I was busy and could not talk at the time. In California it is illegal to record a phone call without consent from all parties involved. In my opinion, every dental office I've visited other than this one has been a smooth and issue-less experience. I would avoid this office at all costs. The 2656 location to be specific. read more

Giving two stars only because front desk staff was polite and helpful. At this place, appointment only means that you are in. When will you be actually taken care of is unknown. For my 3:00pm appointment, I was even seen till 4:30pm. It seems it is a problem with all western dental. Once I waited at Fremont office for 2 hours and had to eventually leave without getting the service. They seem to be booking too many slots. read more

It's a mix feeling to leave a one-star review because the staff were pretty nice and helpful during my two dental filling appointments. But in my last appointment, the doctor (who I don't want to call out here) left TWO scratches on my face. And what makes it really hard to digest is that no one seemed to address it until I found out myself after I walked out. I also didn't know how bad the scars were until the anesthesia faded away. The scars are healed now with two marks on me, it's so disappointing that doctor and nurse didn't address the issue or apologize for the accident. Not going to return again. read more

Today I took my brother here for an emergency wisdom extraction. I called and the front reception was very courtesy over the phone and squeezed us in given the circumstances. I was very pleased that the Dentist was very informative of the aftercare instructions, as well as gentle with my brother's painful condition. Excellent place! Dr. Zhang is very good, Jaimie (the dental hygienist) also does an excellent job. Really like them because they do decent work, very quickly and are inexpensive (unlike other dentists who try to get you into a whole bunch of unnecessary procedures). Caveat... If you're looking for perfect pearly whites, this is not the place for you (but if you're looking for a clean mouth and sensible dental care, you can't go wrong here). read more

Mission Dental moved 2 doors down in the last couple of months. The new address is 2482 Mission Street. The old offices were dark and worn, but they have put a huge amount of money and care into the new suite. The electronics are top of the line and they have computerized all patient records so they can pull up your history immediately from any room. I have seen all 3 dentists here (Drs. Yang, Shiosaky and Ceniceros) and I will take any of the 3 when I call for an appointment because they are all very competent. I have a rebuilt jaw, and this wasn't the case with other dentist offices I have visited. The front desk is bi-lingual, and prompt about getting me in at the appointment time. They have always been able to get me the first appointment of the day at 8:30 am. The fees are competitive and they accept most types of insurance. As an example, the cost for my filling was $114.For follow up care such as the filling where the patient pays out of pocket, they have a form which calculates everything for you before you agree to the procedure. I went there for the first time 3 years ago because I had a Val-Pak coupon, and they earned my repeat business. They are also between the 16th and 24th Street BART stations with buses running on Mission every couple of minutes. read more

So I've only been here once, the front desk staff were pleasant, however the dentist was not. Very adamant on what insurances covered and was WRONG. Tried to force a procedure on me without consideration to alternative options. Also did a full work on, cleaning, exam, the whole works and missed so many things. A cavity for one. A tooth that was root canaled for two. So unprofessional to say the least. She also said some things to a staff asking her questions because she thought I was long gone. I had a great experience with Mission Dental due to the professionalism and kindness of the people who worked there. When I called them, they luckily had a cancellation that day and was able to squeeze me in for a teeth cleaning. The receptionist was really polite and sweet. (I had a really bad experience with another dental office close by where the receptionist was snippy and rude so chose not to go there despite the dentist being recommended by another dentist friend.) The teeth cleaning went smoothly and my dentist recommended that I come in the week after to get some cavities filled. While I'm not particularly looking forward to the process I'm glad that I'm doing to a place that actually cares about their patients well being. read more

It had been a while since my last visit, and I was having some pain (and to be honest some paranoid thoughts about the cause.), when I was speaking with the staff, no one was judging me about my pretty crazy ideas. They took quick and painless x rays, and dr yang came and asked me about the pain. She ended up lowering part of a tooth, which apparently was the cause of my pain. My molar was hitting too high when I chewed. Even though I she knew that was the problem, she still x-rayed the root just to give me peace of mind. Everyone I have seen there has been so gentle and nice, and they talk to me about what is going on with a knowledge and understanding that I have come to appreciate. I have been a patient at Mission Dental for about 7 years and all that l have to say is that l am 100% satisfied with everything and all that is related to this awesome place! The staff is very nice, friendly and professional they make you feel wolcome and comfortable.. Once you are in there you will wait about 5 minutes at the the most to be attended. I did not have a good experience here. I realize that no one likes going to the dentist but I'm one of those people that really hates it. I'll put it off for as long as possible. After some pestering and a recommendation for this place I set up an appointment for a cleaning, X-rays, and a check up. At first things were going well, the front office staff are friendly and very personable but things started going down hill almost as soon as I was taken back for the X-rays. The Dental assistant was not an X-ray technician and didn't know what he was doing. He kept placing the big plastic things in bad places where they would slip and made me gag a couple times by accidentally jamming them down my throat. He did each one at least three times before he gave up and now my head is full of a life times worth of radiation because they let someone unqualified play with the machine. Next I saw the dentist and he poked around in my mouth never even looking at the X-Rays. He told me what I already knew I needed a filling. I can't remember exactly why but I didn't get the cleaning I scheduled. I know he said something about it but at this point I was pretty shaken up. The dentist sent me out to book the filling and to rebook the cleaning. Here's when the cart really went off the track. Even though I asked when I booked the appointment if they took my insurance and they assured me that they did they neglected to mention that my insurance doesn't cover the kind of filling they do. When I tried to book another appointment the receptionist said that my insurance only covers one kind of filling and they do another kind but my insurance will probably cover most of it. They couldn't tell me how much my insurance would cover and how much I'd have to pay out of pocket. Have you ever agreed to buy something without the person selling the item or service being able to tell you how much it was going to cost you? I found the whole thing unprofessional and frustrating. I have a new dentist now and I just need to get up the nerve to make an appointment. read more

I don't enjoy writing lengthy negative reviews, but I really think any potential client of Mission Dental should be VERY careful in following their service recommendations. They tried to swindle more than $1300 from me in unnecessary cavity filling and crown replacement. As a new patient, I scheduled a consultation and a yearly cleaning. The receptionist was incredibly kind, but the elderly lady who was my hygienist butchered my gums (I spat tiny bloody pieces of gum out) while she lamented my poor brushing habits and tried to sell me on fluoride for $10 bucks a pop. (I have always just had fluoride included with my regular cleanings; it was strange to have her hawking it on me like a salesperson) Next, I had a very prompt consultation with the dentist Dr. Shiosaky who informed me that I had 9 cavities that needed to be filled, a crown that needed to be replaced, and multiple wisdom teeth to be extracted (for which she was referring me to an oral surgeon). Suffice to say, I was shocked. 9 cavities?! And how did she know that the wisdom teeth even existed or needed to be removed when her x-ray machine was broken that day? I sat down with her assistant who showed me which teeth had cavities. Not really knowing what cavities look like, I thought this was ample evidence that I needed all the services they recommended. The receptionist next printed me a list of all the services I needed, with a grand total of over $1300 dollars. Having only moved recently to San Francisco, I decided to fly back to the Midwest to see my regular dentist for the fillings because I am cheap. Today, he tells me that I have 4 cavities total, 2 of which are so small that filling them would make the hole larger, and 2 of them which he has filled today. The crown Dr. Shiosaky wanted replaced? It's fine. My brushing habits? Apparently pristine. (Though I did buy an electric toothbrush after my Mission Dental experience) The wisdom teeth? Mine grew in perfectly and don't need to be touched. And it's an extraction so simple that he could do it, no oral surgeon required. The relatively expensive lesson of the story? Be very careful with this place and medical/dental advice in general and don't be afraid to seek a second opinion. Doctors aren't as scrupulous as we'd like to think. read more

LOOK FOR A BETTER DENTIST... THEY ARE OUT THERE BUT NOT AT THIS PLACE. They got my business because they promised me that upon changing to their care, i would get a FREE WHITENING. Its been close to a year and they are yet to honor this promise of a free whitening. I changed because it was close to my office at that time and seemed convenient. Boy do i regret it! My previous dentist had done a check up, cleaning, etc. I had a cavity i needed to get fixed and wanted an ortho referral. Instead, i got a dentist (Dr. Shiosaky) who kept pushing for a cleaning (which i had expressed was not needed) and a "full & comprehensive" oral exam that i also did not need... but that was done anyway since they wanted to be able to charge as much as possible to the insurance. Despite me telling Dr. Shiosaky that my cleaning had been done a couple of month prior to her quick exam, she kept trying to sell me on a "deep cleaning" and fluoride. Two treatments which would have been a waste for me to purchase -my current & previous dentist have confirmed this. After she poked around "examining" me and said i had 6 cavities... 6 cavities!!! She explained that most were very very small but "we like to get them soon -unlike other dentists- to prevent them growing". I was worried about the amount of cavities "spotted", so at the time her explanation made sense. False! If they "barely" there, they do not need treatment. This has already been expressed by another yelper... and it's true. Clearly, she was just trying to find ways to run up my bill and treatment. However, I learned this too late. I went ahead with a filling to a molar that she was adamant needed a filling - despite it not bothering me at all. It's been hurting ever since she "fixed" it. I have expressed this to the office to return for a check up; she has been very much unavailable. I was also charged for things they assured me -yes, ASSURED me- would be covered by my insurance. I asked for them to double check specific treatment with my insurance to get as much info as possible about coverage. The girl there said "yes, we run the specifics so that is almost like a guarantee of coverage". Nay-nay! When I got the bill, i called them up. Of course at this point they told me "No! We tell you that everything is an estimate, we can't guarantee that treatment will be covered". Ugh! Sorry about the lengthy review, but these are a few details that i thought you should know. They have been a headache to deal with. If you don't stand there with a smile nodding at everything they tell you, they stop being "nice and polite". Ask a few questions and they get rude and dismissive. I am still dealing with the botched filling, the very inconvenient office hours the actual dentists put in, and the whitening the are reluctant to honor. They are now ignoring my phone calls and letters (but they sure have cashed the checks sent along with those letters requesting replies to my inquiries!). read more

This is clearly a very disorganized office. I originally called and scheduled a visit as a new patient and confirmed over the phone that they accepted my insurance. When I went in for my appointment I was told that my insurance wasn't activated yet. OK, my bad. I scheduled an appointment for after the effective date. When I arrived today for that appointment I was literally sitting in the x-ray machine getting xrays done when the receptionist approached me to tell me that they weren't taking new patients after all. Not only did the original person either lie or mislead me, they had TWO WEEKS to figure it out and notify me that they weren't accepting new patients. I'm not surprised by all the bad reviews Dr. Henry Yang is getting. I went to his office over in Elmwood, which he sold.... My review of his service at the office reflects many that I see on his office and his work in the Mission SF. Avoid Dr. Henry Yang at Mission Dental. By far the worst dentist I ever had. I changed my insurance to the PPO so I can go back to my old dentist after going to him last year. Went in for a general cleaning, had him talk me into doing unnecessary dental work, which he did POORLY. I had to return to his office 4 times. After the second time, he handed me over to his associate. He has super bad bedside manners and talks down to his patients. Trying to blame me for your poor dental work is not the way to go. Take some responsibility. Dr. Yang suggested that I ate rocks ... that is how low he went. Avoid, Avoid, Avoid. You will regret going to him because he is all about the money and is not interested in good patient care. P.S. Dr. Yang did write me on Yelp offering to take care of the mistakes he made... but I do not trust him and would not let him near me for dental work if he were the last dentist on earth. read more

Just wanted to update my review since I've now been a customer of mission dental for about a year. I don't understand the bad reviews, though everyone can have a bad experience somewhere. For me, when i go to the dentist I'm worried about the following things: Competent and medically sound care Reasonable prices and up front explanations of charges and insurance Friendly treatment, and a respect for my time As far as those three things go, I couldn't be happier with mission dental. Even the deep clean procedure I wasn't sure about went extremely well, and I've seen the exact improvements they laid out for me when I was initally skeptical. My cleanings are always on time, and they call and remind me so I don't forget to go. They always explain to me exactly what is covered and not when they propose work to be done, and they let me roll my balances to the next appointment when necessary. I trust them with my teeth and my wallet, and really that's all you need. read more

This place is great. The people are amazing, the office is state of the art, there's validated parking, and they explained everything with considerate detail. Ohh and Dr. Shiosaky was very gentle while fixing my 2 cavities:( She took extra time to make sure that I was very comfortable before starting the procedure. I have been going to Mission Dental for many years. I am 69 years old and I have seen many dentists, in different countries and different cities. Mission Dental is far the best dentist office I have ever been to. The entire staff is so kind and caring, warm and personal, professional and courteous and I actually look forward to go. My dentist Dr Yingtao Zhang DDS is far the best dentist I have had in all my life. Very intelligent and sensitive, extremely patient and kind and she does the best work I have ever had in my entire life. She is extremely professional and knowledgeable and a great advisor. I am very lucky to have her work on my teeth. I highly recommend her and I highly recommend for anyone to do there. They also have a great membership program that works super well. read more

I'm totally surprised with the amount of bad reviews. I was here twice and both visits were very good experiences. It had been about, well........we don't need to mention how long it was between cleanings. Let's just say I was very nervous. Front desk staff was friendly and I didn't wait long at all before getting an X-ray done. The tech was solid. Pics were taken in a matter of minutes. The same lady did my cleaning and I was amazed with her work. She also informed me (lectured me) on how to properly brush and floss. They even showed me a video on the subject. Could have gone without this but I guess they were just be diligent. Dr. Yang was great. Second time around I had two fillings replaced which were quick and painless. This was about 3 months ago and I'm still feeling just fine. I'll be back for my six month cleaning in January. read more

I was nervous to blindly choose a location for dental services, but a coworker recommended Mission Dental and it did not disappoint! Maria immediately greeted me when I walked in and was brought to the back right away. Ruchita who conducted my X-rays was very friendly and accommodating! She was super knowledgeable regarding my concerns which in return made me feel that much more comfortable knowing that I was in good hands. Dr. Zhang also did a great job on my cleaning! I had my first visit to Mission Dental today, and I was very favorably impressed with the practice. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful. My appointment for a cleaning and x-rays was right on time. The hygienist, Jaime, had a pleasant balance of cool professionalism and friendly warmth. Jaime's cleaning was as thorough as any I have ever had. He clearly explained to me the things that I need to know about the condition of my teeth gums, and he recommended steps I could take to improve my dental hygiene. Dr. Yang examined my teeth and gums when the cleaning was over and pointed out something about my gum recession that no other dentist had explained, not even at the dental school where I had been receiving treatment. The facility was a pleasant surprise, as the Mission neighborhood has its share of well-worn establishments. It's modern, spotlessly clean (I often think that the way a business maintains its rest rooms speaks volumes about the business, and the rest room was spacious, modern and immaculate) and very pleasant. I'm not a dentist or hygienist, but they appear to have modern equipment and the latest dental technology. All in all, I was extremely pleased with Mission Dental and recommend it highly. read more
