After treatment post-4 years. Chin and face is retracted, I look very different.
Vickie Z.

I honestly have been thinking about this review for years and decided that I wanted to let anyone who is deciding on getting Invisalign or braces learn about my experience. I had a minor bite adjustment that really did not require any orthodontics but I wanted to move forward with it because my middle line was not aligned. Dr. Garnett was the one who saw me and proposed a year-long treatment, split into two sets of trays. I did my treatment from Sept 2017 to Oct 2018. There was a prepayment for my plan so I did not want to back out at any point even though after the first half of trays I felt like my teeth were perfectly aligned. The second half is what I think ruined my face. My teeth have been pulled back so much that it has changed my face shape. Not only has it caused my nose to look bigger when I smile because my teeth have been pulled back, my entire chin is shorter as well. I did not know orthodontics could do this, and I really wish the doctor would have said or provided a visual of the changes my face would have. Further, my profile looks different and retracted as well. This has also worsened my TMJ issues because my tongue does not have enough room in my mouth versus before and I often bite my tongue now during my sleep and get extreme headaches. I really wish I did not do this treatment or should have listened to my gut instead of being pushed to follow a plan that I probably did not need at all. Thousands of dollars and lifetime of medical and confidence issues. It really has given me a lot of pain and agony. Additionally, I had gone back to the doctor a year or so ago addressing my current concerns and I was rushed to have another treatment plan laid out for me for another six months! The office is nice and there's great pedigree but I definitely feel medically gaslit during my time here / and I wish I was forewarned about the changes orthodontics could do. I had good experience with all the staff, however. This is my personal experience and wanted to share. Take it how you will.

This is the before and after of my invisalign experience. Highly recommend!

I discovered Bella Smile through some friends who had used her services for their Invisalign in SF. They all raved about her practice, her staff and her office. I decided to check out for myself what all the fuss was about. I didn't think I needed Invisalign b/c I thought my teeth were okay, despite some mild crowding. What I didn't realize that was that crowding would likely lead to more plaque buildup and possibly gum issues. My challenge is that I didn't want to go through the normal length of time to do Invisalign so thank god I found Bella Smile! Both Dr. Garnett and Dr. Mahood helped fix my crowding and overbite over the course of 9 months (shaving off 1/3 of the time with the Prolon process) I will admit that this whole process was very daunting as I wasn't sure about how to manage the trays, the cleaning solutions, and just living with it day to day, but the entire staff was always helpful whenever I had questions, and if there were ever any last minute issues. I inadvertently lost one of the hooks on my teeth and Dr. Garnett's staff was super accommodating me and seeing me inpatient same day to help me solve my problem. The whole team, from the front desk to Dr. Garnett and Dr. Mahood provide a deep level of attention and patient care that I have not seen in an of the other doctor offices I have on my roster (and I have a lot of doctors I see). I would highly recommend Bella Smile for both adults, teenagers and children.

Rickey I.

I've been insecure about my crooked teeth since middle school and finally decided to get braces during Covid after two decades of coming up with excuses (I can't work with a mouth full of braces, I don't want to pull two teeth out, I can't afford it, now's not a good time, etc.). I found Dr. Bella while searching for before and after cases of severe crowding like mine. On her website, there are pdfs and videos of 50-150 cases (most ortho offices post 5-15). And I found a video of her presenting her winning case in the 2016 Invisalign Shootout. She seemed experienced, skilled and optimistic - a rare combination in any profession. I have been under treatment with Dr. Bella for a little over a year now. She's treating me with Invisalign, propel, and ipr (no extraction tho I'm missing one lower teeth from a previous incident). The office staff (shoutout to Shalina who puts up with my multiple questions and calls) and her ortho assistants have been helpful and nice to me. Dr. Bella has been straight to the point, adjusting on the fly based on my feedback, and trustworthy through all my appointments. Five stars bc there's no such thing as a perfect place (so what's the point of saving it?) and this 'small' business does a superb job of balancing patient care (esp during Covid) and staying in business. I'm envious of people who live locally. I fly in once a quarter from Boston bc I went to about 10+ ortho offices in Boston and clearly Dr. Bella has the most experience, skills, and heart. Photos are before treatment and 85% to completion. Hoping to make it to the before and after photos of Dr. Bella's case book.

Done with treatment in 10 months! I now have a face and teeth someone other than my mother can love. Thanks Bella Smile!!!!

Ever since treatment my jaw click is terrible, it clicks and cracks constantly. An issue I never had. Additionally my lower front teeth show lots of wear. I got my 5 year scans done (a little late) last month and I have significant root degradation of my two upper front teeth. I have decades of teeth scans and the degradation only started after her treatment. Today I saw a different orthodontist - the changes that Dr. Cheng made to my bite makes my lower teeth contact my upper front teeth. It's lots of force to my front teeth. It's likely that their treatment and changes to my bite caused this. Not only has that constant contact likely caused root deterioration, I've had jaw pain and clicking, and my lower teeth are worn. I will be redoing Invisalign with a new ortho to correct these issues.

Using an alias, as further interactions are not desired…read more It's almost a relieve to know that her practice remains small and floaty so her fractured integrity won't spill into industries that actually affect people at scale. I just completed my 2nd alignment treatment with another phenomenal orthodontist, after my first deeply unhappy encounter with Dr. Amanda Cheng back in 2018. The difference in communication, service quality and the final result was staggering. At least with the second doctor, I was not questioned and condemned simply for not grasping an orthodontic terminology. After all, I didn't attend Harvard for a dental degree -- I came to receive professional care from someone who did. When I raised concerns about my teeth still being crooked before treatment was "completed," Dr. Cheng flatly denied it and refused to provide any way of measuring progress. In contrast, my second doctor carefully examined the issue, created a refinement plan, and delivered perfect alignment as a result. For the record, both doctors labeled me an "easy case". I wish her display of the Harvard certificate and the warmth of shared Asianness had been authentic rather than performative during those initial visits, but instead I left feeling hard-sold and manipulated -- and I truly hope no patient has to experience that again.

Front desk was friendly, the dental office/equipment looked modern, and the dentists were efficient. Each procedure was explained and front desk helped with scheduling and often notifying for upcoming appointments. So the reason why I stopped going... I had a filling redone due to it coming off. However, I had pain around the same tooth for months. I couldn't eat on that side at all. I went back in for checkups to see if they can figure out what's going on. The head dentist told me to consider getting a crown since there seems to be a cracking on the tooth. They offered to cover the costs however I thought it was a bit extreme to get a crown from a routine filling. Over the next couple months, I would go back multiple times since the pain didn't go away. This included shaving part of the filling, redoing the filling, and trying to figure out my bite. And the final time I went there for a checkup, I was just told it could just be a neurological thing and almost made it sound like it was my fault and they can't do anything about it. The only reason why I kept going back was to give them the opportunity to fix what they had messed up. I ended up looking for another dentist and I told them my issue. They were able to figure what was wrong, and redid my filling. Now I have no pain.
