I've always loved Mission BBQ for their quality of food and quality of service. Today I came through to support a worthy cause. Every year they do the toys for tots holiday toy drive to collect toys for under privileged children. They also provide a meal for all of the people who donate. Their community relations manager, Miss Mary Rose is excellent. She is always supporting community events and organizing activities to support worthy causes. The holiday brunch food is delicious. The only drawback is they only do it once a year and most of the food that is on the menu is not on the normal daily menu. You have to sign up to attend the holiday brunch. First time visiting this location. I have been to many. We came in 15 minutes before close but our food still looked fresh. I really appreciated getting fresh for even after coming in at the last minute. None of the employees were in a rush or looking pissed. They were even folks that came in after me. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and a side of Mac and cheese and had a slight mishap with how it got rung into the computer and not only did they refund the extra sides but they let us have them since they already put them on our trays. The food was absolutely delicious and the restaurant was very clean. Leigh (Lee) was so sweet and came over to our table to bring the corrected receipt and to check on our order. My wife and I were eager to try this location based on the reviews that I've read. The establishment is definitely clean and tidy. I always look for this first when I visit a new restaurant. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. The staff here is Very professional and inviting. You won't experience any type of inner city attitude from the kids who work here. The taste of the food is subjective so I try not to dwell on that. Everyone has their own opinion on what barbecue should taste like and I am no different. My wife gave it a 6 out of 10, I will give it an 8.5 out of 10. Portion sizes are comparable to market value at this time. Was on a recent Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington DC and not only were we treated exceptionally well but our Lunch was brought to the Airport gate before our flight back home. Wow! It's really amazing to see the growth of Mission BBQ over the years. I remember when the only location was in Glen Burnie. Now, it has turned into a chain that has expanded to several cities and states. I used to frequent that Glen Burnie location when I used to live there. Now that I'm in HoCo, this location in Columbia is closest to me. If you haven't figured it out yet, Mission BBQ is all about our military and first responders. When you enter the building, you will see a lot of photos and memorabilia recognizing members of the military, police force, and fire department. I would describe Mission BBQ as a fast casual type of restaurant. You go to the counter and place your order. You also receive your food at the counter. You have the option to dine in or take your food to go. My current favorite items at Mission BBQ are the chopped brisket sandwich and their mac and cheese. When you receive your food, the staff always present it to you by opening the containers to verify that you have the correct items. I appreciate that because there's nothing worse than getting all the way home to realize you were given the wrong thing. Although Mission BBQ has expanded into a chain, the food is consistently good. I think the food tastes good, the service is okay as far as speed and kindness goes, and the ambiance is typical for a fast casual restaurant. Mission BBQ has a unique, spartan ambiance--clean efficient, and refreshingly simple. I found this interesting and inviting. The military and law enforcement cloth badges, prominently displayed, disclosed the "Mission" behind the restaurant's name. The staff was cheerful, efficient, yet personable: after giving my first name for the order call, the cashier called me by name twice more. Besides the usual restaurant drink fare, there was a choice of uniquely-branded bottled sodas. Loved the cream soda! (Where else can you get it?) Only two vegetables were on the menu: green beans and coleslaw. My companion and I chose the slaw, and we both found the coleslaw close to tasteless. At least it was not too vinegary! I added a packet of honey from their condiment case; problem solved. While my friend enjoyed her pulled chicken, I found the ribs, which were falling-off-the-bone, to be quite dry, with not a drop of juiciness, and worse, Heavily over-salted. Because of that, I didn't dare add any more sodium from the range of BBQ sauces offered. This was my second visit to Mission BBQ, after a hiatus of over a year. Both times the ribs were extremely over-salted. Hope to try them again in a year or so. Surely by then someone in management will have tried the ribs themselves! Really great food and really great customer service. With how you are treated, you wouldn't even know you were dining at a national chain restaurant. It says a lot about a business when they're able to make it feel like a neighborhood joint. While I don't eat BBQ often, Mission is always my first choice and glad there is a location in Columbia. You get a lot of food for the price and the quality is always consistent, plus each location is decorated differently with so much history on the walls. Of course, the stand out stars at Mission are their signature sauces. I can't get enough of the Tupelo hot honey and KC classic. I haven't looked into it, but they should bottle this stuff up and sell it. I know I would be one of the first in line. read more
