purchased a Groupon for a month (4 sessions) of introductory art classes. I was genuinely excited--my son loves art, and I thought this could be a great way to nurture that interest. Unfortunately, my experience with Mission Art Studio was disappointing. When I first reached out to schedule the classes, I spoke with Shany. Because I used a Groupon, she told me she couldn't pre-schedule all four sessions and that I would need to call weekly to check for availability. She explained that she had to prioritize full-paying clients. I found this off-putting, especially as a parent who was seriously considering continuing classes long-term. One week, I called to schedule and was told there was no availability because an instructor was out. A couple of weeks later, when I called to schedule the third session, I was met with hesitation and attitude. Shany now claimed that the classes should have been taken consecutively and asked why my son had missed one. When I reminded her of our original conversation--where she said I had to call week-by-week--she didn't recall and asked me to send proof by text. The inconsistency and lack of professionalism made it clear this isn't the right studio for us. My son enjoyed the actual classes, and I wish things had gone differently. Once he completes the remaining sessions, we'll be looking elsewhere for a more welcoming and organized art studio. From looking at other negative reviews, all seem to be from people who came to the studio by way of Groupon. The business undervaluing these clients and missing out on the opportunity of making a good first impression on potential long term customers. read more

I took my child here in hopes to have her kick start her love for art. We got a groupon gifted to my daughter for 4 classes. I showed up to the center and was immediately made to feel like a bother by one of the teachers. (I think Cat) she in a rude tone said "Can you move over so that the other students can enter the center?". I had no idea where to go we just walked in and this was our first ever visit. The facility is extremely tiny. I brushed it under the rug.. later during the session I noticed she shushed my daughter because my daughter was very quietly singing to herself while she worked on her art. Mind you; the center was not silent the kids were having conversations with one another as you'd expect kids to do. Later my daughter told me she shushed her twice in this 1.5 hour session. After the class was over, the owner let me know that she thought I should bring my daughter back in a couple months instead so she can get older. (& focus better) Mind you she's four & I checked the age requirement before I came and only brought her because it was allowed per her website. AND this is a beginner class. How is my daughter supposed to be perfect on her first ever class? You have to start somewhere and that's what I hoped to do here. We won't be back. Our daughter has been going to Mission art for the last seven years (she still goes). Her skills have grown tremendously and her passion and love of art has grown as well. Shaney and Cat are incredible teachers and have a wonderful rapport with their classes. We have done the weekly classes and also had a birthday party there and all interactions have been great. Highly recommend it if you are looking for art classes. We (parents) have even said that we might be taking classes there once we are empty nesters! read more

My children wanted to do an art class and i got a groupon for here, there is a lady named Kat with pink hair. My kids absolutely loved her she seems good at her job and good at giving helpful advice to younger children while making a fun experience. On the other hand, there is Shabnam the owner that works there, I have heard all bad things. She doesn't give good advice, she just criticized everything my kids drew. She was very rude and disrespectful, she went over and drew on my childrens papers scribbling and apparently messing with their art work! She was picking on some of the kids while having favoritism with others which were apparently the kids that were better at art that she wouldn't pick on. She judged their art styles, as we know every artist has their own style and she was a perfectionist and not letting my kids express their own art style and only letting them do it one way. She was very rude, nasty, disrespectul, ridiculous, and absurd towards my children. This lady would just be on her phone all the time! She was very unprofessional and had an attitude. She also seems to be acting very fake in her review responses. Telling a bunch of lies. She ruined the experience for my kids and took away the fun. Thankfully, some days she was just on her phone texting people and calling people while Kat ran it all by herself. Must've been hard on her dealing with 6 kids while this lady wasn't helpig at all. If you do go here, I highly suggest asking for Kat and not this Shabnam. She's all bad news. read more

Groupon. Arrived. Barely greeted. The art teacher has an attitude! I arrived early and was asking her about the Groupon and said "can you come back at 1:15 I'm very busy right now." The tone was not very friendly at all! As if she could not be bothered. She could've said that better a million different ways and say please with that and ask to wait but she did not. I would not recommended this teacher. The center is small and dirty, can easily see piles of trash. The next visit her attitude was better. read more

I found this school on yelp. Tried to call for more information, the phone number posted online never worked. I sent a message to the business through yelp as well asking them to give a call back. Only got a response from the owner telling me to call that number that never went through, even though in my message that was clearly written is the reason I needed a call back. A quaint little art classroom with well educated in art & nice instructors... I do my very first anything-as I previous used to say about myself "I can't even draw a stick person"... She patiently taught me how to draw a piece of fruit-LOL judge for yourself LOL I didn't even know this art school is located on a corner that I passed by often... Shabnam was a great teacher. I still remember her til this day. I took classes at Mission Art Center about 3 or 4 years ago. I'm happy to see she is still in business. I even referred my younger cousin to her classes. The teacher is very patient and she really helped me excel to eventually become comfortable with oil paintings. She starts you off by drawing and shading in pencil. From there you move on to acrylic paintings and finally oil paintings. The painting studio is a bit small but that is ok. She manages to create a smooth and relaxing environment with the music she plays. She constantly walks around to see if any of the students need any help. I once messed up on my oil painting and she was able to fix it for me. Over all these classes are a great idea for anyone who is looking to better their artistic skills.
