I am a plus size bride, I truly thought that finding a wedding dress was going to be a complete nightmare and that I would be forced into buying a gown made from poor quality at one of the "chain" bridal stores. So to say I was nervous was an understatement. I then scheduled an appointment at Miss Ruby hoping to see what the 'skinny" girls got to try on. I was pleasantly surprised that there were several dresses that I could actually try on in my size!!! The sales associate, Jackie, let me pick out and choose any dress I wanted to try on, there was no pressure to pick this dress or that dress, it was my choice. I did try on smaller dresses but Jackie explained where the the dress would line up if it was in my size. Explaining the details of the designer and how he/she designs gowns. Jackie picked out a dress that was beautiful but I thought it wouldn't work with my body type, but she encouraged (not forced) me to try it on. Once I put it on I knew this was the one. I would have never tried it on without her suggestion. Jackie knew right away what the style I should be wearing and she was right! I never felt pressured or pushed around, it was a very comfortable experience. I wasn't just a number I was Kate who was getting married on March 29th. The staff was great. The owner, Erin, came over after I found "the dress" and helped Jackie with the measurements to make sure it was perfect. At my other bridal store visits, I never even saw a manager much less the owner of the company. Overall it was an amazing experience. I said yes to the most amazing, high quality, but not out of my budget dress. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Miss Ruby's (Milwaukee) is a GORGEOUS space (a potential wedding venue within itself!) My stylist, Glo, was friendly, knowledgeable, and dedicated to helping me find the type of dress I was looking for. She was great to work with. Pros: I was able to kind of 'dress myself' alone in the dressing room, before being helped with zipping/buttons -- gave me a sense of privacy. Cons: A lot of the dresses out on the floor were out of my price range. I wish they had a bigger selection of dresses in the $1,500 area (it seemed like the majority were $2K+). read more

I had a really great experience at Miss Ruby today. I had to travel to go dress shopping because I live in a different state but my home and wedding location is Milwaukee. I really knew I had to pick something today. I worked with Megan and she was great. I felt like she really matched my vibe and she was also very efficient. She made me feel great and reassured me when I felt hesitant or unsure about my decisions. She didn't go out of my budget and pulled things that I loved. I could've walked out in any dress she pulled for me and been happy. Everyone we encountered was so helpful and willing to go out of their way. They were really kind and helpful to my family as well, especially my older less mobile family members, which meant a lot to me. I never felt pressured or rushed. I had another appointment but I ended up cancelling it because I found a dress I loved at Miss Ruby. I'm so glad to have had the experience I did! read more

I would not trust Miss Ruby when purchasing a wedding dress. After my appointment, I realized that I left a necklace of value in my fitting room. I immediately e-mailed and called Miss Ruby to see if they had it and two employees responded saying that they did have it and that I could come pick it up. A few days later, Miss Ruby closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which is completely understandable. Miss Ruby re-opened a few weeks after, so I called to see if I could stop in and get my necklace. That's when I was told that they no longer had it and that it had been either thrown away or misplaced. They offered no consolation for my necklace that they had lost. It was a huge disappointment. For this reason, I would not trust them with something as important as a wedding dress. read more

I can't say enough good things about Miss Ruby's! I live in downtown Chicago, and I'm so glad I made the trip up to Milwaukee. The store is adorable and has a section for brides and another for bridesmaids. They were super accommodating when I was late because of Chicago traffic, and they even stayed late so I could finish trying on a couple dresses. I worked with Hannah, and she was WONDERFUL. I actually visited twice - the first time I couldn't make a decision, but I was never pressured at all to rush into anything. I went back and worked with Hannah again, and I was able to pick my dress right away. Both times I brought just my mom with me, but Hannah was so kind and accommodating about taking lots of pictures and FaceTiming in my sister and friend. The dresses were gorgeous and in a wide range of prices. They had a great mix of styles and silhouettes, and they're one of the only stores in the area with Madi Lane dresses! My entire experience was absolutely perfect. This was the second store that I went to, and felt such a relief the second I met our consultant, Jimmy. Such a difference than the first store. He was positive, exciting, honest, and allowed my group to feel welcome and comfortable (unlike my last visit at a botique in Pewaukee). I loved my dress when I tried it on, but months later when it arrived it was hanging off me, several sizes too big. When I was in the store placing the order and they told me the size they'd be ordering, I disagreed saying that was way too large (yes I know dress sizes always seem large), but I am between an 8-10 and they ordered me a 16! The dress didn't have the shape I wanted and we've paid more in alterations than what the dress is worth! It doesn't have the same shape anymore because of how much extra material there was and the whole process has been extremely stressful. Not worth it, I'll never recommend this store! I've been tempted to call and try and get some sort of refund but I'm sure there's little hope in that! read more

After 4 trips to this boutique, I had to finally write a review. My first experience with Miss Ruby was earlier this year as MOH for my friends wedding looking for bridesmaid dresses. Although the store is cute, the service and selection is laughable. I remained optimistic on two separate appointments to keep a "happy face" on for the bride, but we had zero luck and assistance. If you are going here for a bridesmaid dress, don't expect help from the staff. You are really on your own. Thinking perhaps it was just the specific consultant we had at the store, I decided to give Miss Ruby a second try. This time it was for my own wedding / bridesmaid dresses.....and it was the last straw. After emailing with the store for two weeks about a specific bridesmaid dress we were looking for, they indeed had it an ensured it would be pulled for my Saturday morning appointment. They called Friday night to confirm, and all my bridesmaids came in to town so we could go try it on and order. As we entered the store, I was told they actually sold the dress earlier in the week (yet still had us come in!). The fact they wasted 6 people's schedules in hopes of making another sale is ridiculous. My bridesmaids had already pre-agreed on the dress they wanted and were attending the appointment to take measurements and order THAT DAY. As you can imagine, we were pretty furious, especially with all the emails confirming the reason we were coming in! After finding a reluctant alternative, we decided to leave. That is when the store told us they could potentially order another one in, and that they would ship the dress to each girl to try. Trying to stay positive, I agreed and waited for the call. The call came, and guess what? They no longer offered to ship it to my girls. Instead, they said they could only get the dress for the following Saturday morning and that was my only opportunity. Thanks for another inconvenience! Again, being optimistic, I was able to round up 3 out of 5 of the bridesmaids to go try it on. This left out two girls, who would not have an opportunity to try the dress on. I asked for a fair and appropriate discount for the inconvenience, but they would not budge. Therefore, I found the dress at a much more professional store where I plan to place a phone order! read more

I was extremely excited to go here with the bride to be and the other girls in the wedding party, but from the moment we walked in, the whole experience sucked! First off, a few of us came from out of state to look at and try on a dress that the bride had requested (AND Miss Ruby said they had), but when we got there we found out the sample dress sold and they no longer had it. Miss Ruby knew we were coming in to look at that SPECIFIC dress, yet they decide to sell it, ruining our entire experience. The staff was extremely rude and didn't seem to care that this happened, as I even noticed two of the girls talking and laughing behind the counter. I'm not sure how you are hired to work in a bridal shop, but these are NOT the kind of people that should be working there. Shopping for dresses for your wedding is a big deal and they don't seem to care about you, rather just trying to make the sale. The whole wedding party has decided to take our business elsewhere and it's probably a blessing in disguise that it didn't work out because they are the last people I would want to deal with. I am giving miss ruby 3 stars only because my dress was the wrong size. I remember telling the consultants that I wanted to order a larger size than they had recommended because my gown was a mermaid and I have very large hips and wanted to make sure I had the room for them as I was on the verge of a size 12 based on my hip measurement. They were adamant on ordering a 10 and thinking they were the experts I ordered their recommendation. Well when my actual gown came in I was left in tears because it was so tight and pulling in my hips it looked horrible. I was assured that the dress could be let out, which I thought was something they should personally have offered some sort of discounted price as letting out a dress is much more expensive than taking one in. Anyway, here I am a month before my wedding with a new dress from a different store because mine didn't fit in the first place and the seamstress they recommended didn't do a great job on the alterations and the bustle. If you feel you should order a different size than they recommend go with your instincts! read more

Very cute salon, on par with some places in chicago. You are able to pull dresses off the rack and the consultant will pull a few for you as well. I found my dress here and got a $100 discount for ordering it on the first visit. Also, you get champagne when you say yes to the dress! Highly recommended, as long as your budget is at least $1000. This was my first time trying on wedding dresses and unfortunately it was a less than special experience. I was on time for my 1:30pm appointment and was told that my consultant, Jimmy, was "grabbing champagne and would be right up." I was asked to have a seat while I waited, but instead, I decided to take a look around. 20 minutes later, there is still no Jimmy and I was informed that he was now parking (so apparently 'grabbing champagne' meant he was physically off site to get it?!) and it would be just another minute. I told the woman that I was on a time crunch and needed to be out of there by 3pm. She said she would get another consultant to work with me instead. Why this wasn't thought of 20 minutes earlier is beyond me. I then got a new consultant who went out of her way to explain that he was in the middle of trying to eat lunch... she was so inconvenienced by me being there is was palpable. I tried on a few dresses and she made no attempts to fluff, straighten or position the dresses while I was on the pedestal ... instead my bridesmaid was the one doing it. She hardly made any comments and was visibly bored and annoyed. My bridesmaid and I were truly uncomfortable and couldn't wait to get out of there. For a process that is supposed to be special, fun and exciting, I felt less than important and more like a nuisance. Although I did find two dresses that I liked, I will NOT be coming back to purchase either. If you are looking to try on dresses, maybe try the other options first and save Miss Ruby for last. read more

I had the best experience at Miss Ruby! Meredith was my stylist and she was so bubbly and excited that all my nerves went out the window as soon as I met her. She really listened to what I was looking for and picked out excellent choices to try on. You also get to browse the store and pick out choices as well. After every dress I tried on she had me talk out loud on how I felt in it and what I liked or didn't like. As silly as that sounds, it really helped me decide on what I didn't want and made it so much easier to pick THE dress. I actually had another appointment after this and I knew I didn't want to try on any more dresses and just had to say YES! to my dress! We had a champagne toast after and then went over alterations. They made sure that any slight change I wanted to be done to the dress could actually be done before the final purchase (which they could!). I purchased both my wedding gown and my bridesmaid dresses at Miss Ruby's and couldn't have been happier with the experience. The first appointment was just my mom and I and was the first time I'd ever tried on a wedding dress. Sarah was so friendly and helpful she made the experience very fun and low-pressure for us both, even bringing out champagne for us all to toast once I'd decided on a dress - such a fun touch and I really felt like a bride in that moment. Their selection of gowns is robust without being overwhelming, and the prices are very reasonable regardless of your budget. The accessories are a little expensive, but that's to be expected from any boutique style salon. I returned a second time this past weekend with my MOH, another bridesmaid, and my mom & my fiances mom to try on bridesmaid dresses and had another great experience, this time with Valerie helping us. I also wanted to try on my dress to show everyone and play around more with veils and sashes and they were extremely accommodating. My only minor gripe (and the only reason for not giving 5 stars) is that the sample sizes they have are all VERY small. If you're not a size 6 it's difficult to get a sense of how some of the bridesmaid dresses would really look, even with clamps. I'd highly recommend they get their sample sizes bigger - it's MUCH better to have a larger dress clamped up than to not even be able to get a leg in it! That said, we did still find a lovely bridesmaid dress for the girls that they're all incredibly happy with. read more

She tried to squeeze me into tiny dresses which was humiliating and made me feel terrible. The only reason I'm giving 1 star is because the store was nice. If it weren't for that I would be giving ZERO STARS!! Avoid this store at all cost! This place is hard to find and you have to follow a million signs to hopefully get to the right suite. What a total rip off and waste of money this place is! My experience started out wonderful, I even found a great dress- I was going to buy the sample off the rack and while I was looking it over there were makeup stains, pulls, and rips all over the dress. They tried to assure me it was an easy fix, I face-timed my seamstress and she assured me that it was basically a remodel of the dress. If you don't know that it's an easy fix- DON'T LIE ABOUT IT! So I said ok, I'll order a new one. I added on a bow to the dress and they tell me it is $250- ok no big deal. We signed a contract and give them payment. They call me back the next day and tell me that the bow is actually $700+! THREE TIMES the amount I was quoted and paid. They would not abide by the contract we signed and told us there was nothing they could do for us, all I could do was cancel the order. Not to mention the stylist was pulling dresses that were everything I didn't want! She was trying to talk me into every single dress I put on saying "not everyone gets that perfect moment" I drove to downtown Chicago so I didn't have to deal with these crooks! They ruined my entire dress shopping experience! read more

Miss Ruby's Boutique was an absolutely wonderful and joyous experience. This was the first and last shop I went to for purchasing a bridal gown. First, they were very accommodating with appointment times. I traveled from out-of-state and was able to book an appointment on short notice. I sent them some pictures of styles that I liked and they pulled a few of the exact pictures but then allowed me to search through the racks at my own leisure. I was able to pull as many gowns as I wanted and Jackie, the consultant, pulled some that she also thought I might like. After trying on several dresses I was in love with two beautiful, but very different gowns. There was absolutely no pressure given from anyone that the boutique to make a decision right then and there which I very much appreciated. Jackie suggested we have some lunch, take a break from the dresses and return later in the afternoon if we wish. She scheduled us in later and with just the two dresses in the room I was able to make a decision. It was wonderful to be able to go through what can be a very overwhelming process at my own pace and not have to worry being pressured to make a decision. The best part of this experience was the intimate and relaxed feel of the boutique. I was lucky enough to have the bridal area to myself. I did not feel self-conscious wearing dressing in front of other brides or uncomfortable expressing mine or my families comments. Overall, this was a wonderful experience that I can not say enough things about and would recommend this boutique to anyone and everyone. read more

I will say that first and foremost that Miss Ruby had wonderful dresses. There wasn't an overwhelming amount to sift through, but there was a well-curated selection. I found a few gorgeous gowns: one in a style I knew I'd love and one that I was surprised to just adore. I was disappointed, however, with my shopping experience. My consultant was friendly with me, but never introduced herself to my family or asked who they were. She also did not show me a single dress that was in my budget. She grabbed several very pretty dresses but seemed to have no regard for the price. Every gown was $300-$1000 over what I wanted to spend. Also I felt she was making a pretty hard sell. I understand that consultants rely on commission and that every appointment is an opportunity to earn, but being talked into a dress that was $550 too much and constantly reminding me how late the dress would come in came off as being a little too aggressive for my taste. I say if you have lots of time and lots of money this place would be a terrific bet, but for brides on a more modest budget or a tight schedule beware. read more
