And coming from a Jamaican background, let me be clear: the usual Trinidad vs. Jamaica debate does not apply here. This place stands on its own. From the moment the food hit the table, one thing was consistent across everything we ordered: it was hot, fresh, and made with real intention and flavor. We started with the fried cauliflower bites. The batter was light, crispy, and well done--definitely a solid starter. I wasn't a big fan of the tartar sauce it came with, but it didn't take away from the quality of the cauliflower itself. My friend ordered the jerk chicken rolls, and I have to give credit where it's due--the sauce that came with those rolls was incredible. Easily one of the standout sauces of the night. Next, I had the doubles, and because I like my food with a kick, I asked for pepper sauce. Now, I'll admit--I made my first one obnoxiously hot. But what I discovered was the real winning combination: adding the callaloo on top of the doubles. That was the perfect match. The callaloo itself is blended with so many elements into a rich, flavorful purée, and when paired with the doubles, it created this burst of layered, authentic Caribbean flavor that was just on point. I also ordered a veggie plate with rice and peas, cabbage, and chickpeas, and they did not disappoint. The portion size was generous, and every single item was clearly made with flavor in mind--not just thrown together as an afterthought for vegetarians. I also tried the macaroni pie--it's a smaller portion, but it's true Caribbean mac and cheese, rich and satisfying. The fried plantains were done perfectly--hot, fresh, and with that ideal balance of sweetness and texture. Then came the rasta pasta. My first couple of bites, I thought it needed a little more kick--but by the third bite, everything came together perfectly. You can tell they pour a lotta love into their food and drinks. I didn't understand the concept of the reserved bar space because it stayed empty all night. There's better food at better prices in O4W, would pass on this spot unless you're just coming for photos. I tried the Crispy Okra Bites, the Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls, the Jerk Chicken Plate, and the Trinidad Callaloo. Most everything was fine, but definitely on the overseasoned side and overpriced for what you get. The real disappointment was the Jerk Chicken Plate, which came with rice and beans (weirdly called Rice & Peas on the menu, despite not possessing any peas). The rice was weirdly grainy and salty and overall unpleasant to eat with the jerk chicken, which was already heavily seasoned. Overall, the food isn't *bad*; it's just crazy to pay this much for what you end up getting. We were told all of the bar seating was reserved and we couldn't sit down. For dinner, I had curry chicken with rice & peas and callaloo. If you've never had callaloo (I hadn't), it a delicious stew of spinach and okra. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting. The staff were lovely. We got there early so we were able to score free parking behind the restaurant. Also they had a live jazz band and singer starting at around 7. The decor is amazing they have so many beautiful details and designs all throughout the establishment. They even went above and beyond to celebrate my best friend and came out with champagne, a song and dance and gave her beautiful words of encouragement for her new found happiness and upcoming nuptials. While I waited for her to arrive I chatted with the staff and owner. EVERYONE WAS SO NICE! I mean hugs, compliments and even a tour of the restaurant. She showed us the outside patio before it was finished and I was just a smiling! I bought me pure joy to spend my money here. I wish had more stomach space to buy more food. Pros: - owner/chef Latoya(&mum) are the only reason this restaurant has a chance of being extremely successful! Latoya is personable & is called upon from the kitchen if ever there is a problem( we saw a few while there) -The food was delicious & flavorful. We tried the goat curry, double doubles, Chana & potatoes, coconut shrimp & the pasta. The food though heavily influenced by The Indian cuisine, is very unique by itself in its flavor profile. The goat was cooked to perfection being soft and not at all chewy. - there is free parking in the alleyway just next to the restaurant. -Ambience and decor are beautiful. Cons: -the restaurant still has several Kinks and service issues that need to be worked on. Our server Torrie/Toni was not engaging and appeared distracted. She forgot our drink order and the order for fries for the kid in our party. She really did not check in much with us....at one point checking in when there was no food or drink on our table asking how we liked everything ?!?(clueless). She also incorrectly added a $16 cocktail to our final bill which created issues when trying to pay our bill using the QR code directly to the website-as that was the preferred method. Latoya save the day in that instance! -When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty with only one other couple present. Despite that, we were seated in the last table closest to the kitchen. The kitchen door was never fully shut, and I always had dirty dishes in my line of vision. That really did not do much for the vibe. -though delicious... the service and ambience do not add up with how pricey items are. Our goat curry with a roti and the potato Chana curry was $32! Each cocktail was around $16. I think with such steep prices service needs to be top-notch and at par with what you would get at another similarly priced restaurant. Overall: our experience would not have been great had it not been for Latoya personable nature & ability to try smooth things over. The food is incredible, beautiful Caribbean home cooking. Started with the coconut shrimp which was light and tasty. My husband had the chicken stew which was melt in your mouth tender. I had the jerk chicken which had the perfect amount of kick and was super juicy. We both had the rice and beans, and cabbage (which was heavenly) and a side of fried plantains, perfectly cooked and sweet. The atmosphere is lively, yet comfortable, showcasing Carnival feathers and costumes. The owners and staff are top notch. The food itself was seasoned to perfection and the Caribbean flavors were balanced well. I had the stew chicken and it was bursting with flavor the spice level was just how I like it. The entree came with rice and peas and veggies both were great as well the portion size matched the price point. I'm glad I still had a little wiggle room for dessert because the Dulce de Leche was calling my name. Of course, I had to try the Doubles, curry goat, and Rasta pasta. I would highly recommend ordering the doubles as it had great flavor! The curry goat that day was good but too salty. I felt like the jerk chicken Rasta pasta was just okay. I think miss conduck is a great place to order a drink and a light meal (like the doubles). I think it's a bit pricey to order a main meal here. The jerk chicken Rasta pasta was like $22.99 which I thought was way too pricey for something I feel like I could make at home for cheaper. Well, well ,well. You already know once I heard there was a new restaurant on the scene serving up some Trini dishes I had to check it out! The look of this restaurant is very unassuming from the outside, but once you enter it is beautifully decorated with bright colors and greenery very reminiscent of the tropics. I sat at the bar and had a Cocorita, Rum Me Up, Vessigny Breeze, Doubles, and Curry Goat Roti. As someone who typically shies away from coconut-flavored cocktails, I have to admit that the Cocorita was actually tasty. The only reason I wouldn't get it again is because it's super sweet and I'm not into super sweet drinks, but the flavors were all there. The Rum Me Up was also very sweet but a little less sweet and I really liked the various fruit flavors and that I could taste the rum. The Vessigny Breeze cocktail was their take on a tropical LIT and it surprised me in a good way; I would definitely get the last cocktail again since it was the least sweet out of the 3. The Doubles were pretty tasty and once I added some pepper sauce it was on point. The Curry Goat Roti did not come "enveloped" as described on the menu so that was a little saddening but the goat meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked to pure tenderness! However, the roti skin was dry, dense, lacked flavor, and honestly tasted a bit old (not the light, fluffy texture you would expect from a fresh roti skin). The channa and potatoes that came with the dish were ok, but also lacked flavor. Definitely, the true star of this dish was really the curry goat so I wish the portion size was just a tad bigger :) The service was friendly and I appreciated that the bartender Trina and Latoya, who is one of the owners, were very friendly and welcoming. I also liked that they played a decent amount of soca overhead while I was there so, that put a smile on my face.
